Abstract

This study aimed to empirically investigate the factors of social entrepreneurship - namely, social mission, social innovation, and the mediating role of social networks in achieving sustainable business development within developing tourist villages. The research employed a quantitative approach, focusing on 42 tourist villages in Bantul Regency. Data analysis was conducted using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The findings revealed that social missions and social networks significantly and positively impact sustainable business development. However, social innovation did not show a significant effect on sustainable business development. Notably, social networks positively and significantly mediated the relationship between social innovation and sustainable business development. This study has several limitations. Firstly, it measured only two factors and one mediator of social entrepreneurship in addressing sustainable business development. Future research could explore other elements of social entrepreneurship, such as risk-taking. Secondly, social networking was used as a mediating variable; future studies could expand on this by incorporating HR practices. The results of this study have implications for social entrepreneurs, emphasizing the creation of relevant social and economic value for individuals and teams by addressing social and environmental needs. This approach is essential for developing creative and innovative solutions that ensure social, economic, and environmental sustainability in both normal and abnormal ecological situations.

Abstract

Research Aims: The increasingly pressing issue of global sustainability has increased the need for mastery of green competencies as critical competencies in the fields of education, organization, and environmental governance. However, until now, there are still limitations in systematic studies that analyze the trends and characteristics of global research related to green competencies. This study aims to identify international research trends, key actors, dominant terminology, patterns of collaboration between institutions and across countries, and recent developments in the study of green competencies by applying bibliometric analysis. Methodology: This study employs bibliometric analysis, utilizing a dataset comprising 346 Scopus-indexed articles published between 2014 and 2024. The data were processed using VOSviewer and Biblioshiny software integrated with R Studio to generate visualizations, including co-authorship, co-citation, bibliographic coupling, and overlay network analyses. Research Findings: The findings show that publications on green competencies have increased significantly since 2015, with Sustainability Switzerland, Journal of Cleaner Production, and Business Strategy and The Environment being the most productive journals (Figure 2). Dominant keywords include "sustainability development" and "green competencies" (Table 2, Figure 3). Countries such as China and the United States dominate publication contributions (Figure 4, Table 3), while institutions in several Malaysian countries are the centers of research productivity (Table 4). Networks of co-citation and bibliographic coupling show limited global collaboration across institutions (Figure 8). Research limitations and implications: This research makes a significant contribution to mapping the epistemic landscape of green competencies and encourages the development of collaborative approaches across sectors. The findings are helpful for policymakers, academics, and educational practitioners in designing strategies to strengthen green competencies across various sectors.

Abstract

Service activities were conducted in the Bugel Peni II and III Joint Business Group (KUB) in Bugel Village, Kulonprogo Regency. Fishermen who join this group often do not get maximum catches because they face various obstacles, such as limited technology and unpredictable weather conditions. This community service aims to provide portable FAD innovations and determine the success of using portable FADs in fishermen's catches. Portable FADs are proposed for this service activity to provide a solution to minimize losses due to these obstacles. Portable FADs are an innovation that stimulates fish behavioral responses using sound waves with a specific frequency on an attractor, developing from the concept of conventional FADs. The implementation method begins with outreach to fishermen in the Bugel Peni II and III Joint Business Group (KUB) regarding the concept and benefits of portable FADs. Practical training was carried out on the installation and use of these tools and education regarding their positive impact on fish catches. In addition, data collection was carried out through direct observations in the field to understand fish responses to portable FADs. The positive impact of this service activity is that the application of portable FADs provides in-depth insight into the urgency of using technology to increase fish catches by fishermen. Apart from that, this service activity also provides important insight regarding the natural factors fishermen face in implementing portable FADs, such as weather uncertainty, increasingly scarce fish resources, and natural conditions, namely high waves, which are the main obstacles in achieving the expected results.
