Abstract

Polyethersulfone (PES) membranes were prepared via phase inversion method. The effect of polymer concentration on the morphology of the fabricated membranes were studied. Furthermore, the effect of transmembrane pressure (TMP)was also studied on the filtration performance of biodiesel purification. The morphology of fabricated PES membrane was analyzed by using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) indicated that the PES membranes had skin layer on the membrane surface and pores layer on the bottom surface. The permeability coefficient (Lp) of PES membranes were about 21-40 L/m2.h. The Molecular Weight Cut Off (MWCO) test shows that the rejection of dextran solution with the molecular weight 18,8Kda was above 90%. The water contact angle of PES membranes was measured to know the hydrophilicity of PES membrane. The water contact angle was about 73oconfirmed that the PES membrane was hydrophobic. The increasing ofTrans-membrane Pressure (TMP) had a significant effect on the permeability of membrane which isthe permeability of biodiesel increases by increasing the TMP. The maximum of flux was obtained about 110 ml/sec

Abstract

The presence of Cadmium (Cd) in groundwater is an issue that needs serious handling as it causes problems to human health. The removal of Cadmium (Cd) can be done by various methods such as adsorption, oxidation, filtration, and many more. In this study, the method used was adsorption using Aceh natural zeolite. This process was expected to reduce Cd metal as effectively as possible. The adsorption was conducted by varying contact time, adsorbent dosage, pH and initial concentration of Cd metal. The crystallized Aceh natural zeolite was characterized by X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) with Si/Al zeolite ratio of 4.36 %. The concentration of Cadmium in water was analyzed by means of Atomic Adsorption Spectrophotometer (AAS) standard AA 630. The results showed that the adsorption of cadmium in water solution by Aceh natural zeolite occurred according to the Freundlich adsorption model. While the adsorption kinetic from the process was found to be a pseudo second order with k2 value of 1.53.

Abstract

Artikel ini melaporkan tentang karakteristik dan kinerja dari membran polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) yang dimodifikasi dengan memadukan surfaktan nonionik dan aditif zwitterionik melalui metode nonsolvent-induced phased separation (NIPS). Modifikasi ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan sifat hidrofilisitas dan kinerja membran. Membran PVDF modifikasi dibuat dengan penambahan 5 gram Brij-35 dan variasi Methacryloyloxylethyl phosphorylcholine (MPC) sebanyak 0,5 dan 1 gram sebagai aditif, menggunakan pelarut N, N-dimethylacetamide (DMAc) dan non-pelarut berupa akuades. Pengaruh penambahan aditif ke dalam sistem membran dianalisis dengan mengamati perubahan struktur morfologi membran menggunakan SEM, tingkat hidrofilisitas membran diuji dengan mengukur sudut kontak air pada permukaan membran. Selain itu membran juga diuji kinerja filtrasinya menggunakan modul cross-flow. Filtrasi dilakukan pada tekanan operasi 1 bar. Kemudian untuk pengujian rejeksi, digunakan larutan asam humus sebagai model kontaminannya. Kinerja filtrasi membran menggunakan sampel air murni menghasilkan nilai fluks maksimal pada membran yang dimodifikasi dengan penambahan Brij35-5. Namun, selektivitas yang dihasilkan menurun dari 96% (pure PVDF) menjadi 76%. Di sisi lain, membran yang dimodifikasi dengan penggabungan aditif mampu menghasilkan kinerja yang lebih baik yaitu dengan nilai fluks sebesar 126 L/m2h dan mampu merejeksi asam humus sebesar 90%.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the leachate treatment plant at the Blang Bintang Regional landfill and analyze its impact on the water quality of the Krueng Uteun Siblah River. The method used is a comparative analysis of leachate quality monitoring data (influent and effluent) from the landfill from 2021 to 2025. The results showed that the treatment plant successfully reduced the concentration of pollutants in leachate, with an average efficiency percentage for the parameters of Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD), and Total Suspended Solids (TSS) Nitrate, NH₃, Cd, Fe were 23.87%, 64.15%, 50.53%, 35.26%, 62.19%, 71.05%, and 40.18%, respectively. However, effluent values for COD and BOD parameters still exceed the established quality standards. Further analysis of the Krueng Uteun Siblah River revealed a significant decline in water quality immediately after the leachate outfall point, marked by a spike in BOD (27.4-30 mg/L), COD (51.17-62 mg/L), and iron concentration (3.65-4.21 mg/L) that exceeded quality standards, as well as a drastic decrease in Dissolved Oxygen (DO) levels to 3.5 mg/L improving the performance of leachate treatment facilities and implementing stricter management strategies are absolutely necessary to protect the aquatic ecosystem around the landfill.

Abstract

Mangrove ecosystems play an important role in maintaining the balance of coastal environments, protecting shorelines from abrasion, and supporting climate change mitigation through their carbon storage capacity. However, the coastal area of Gampong Lamnga, Aceh Besar District, has experienced a decline in mangrove vegetation, which has increased the risk of coastal environmental degradation. This community service activity aimed to enhance community awareness and participation in coastal ecosystem conservation through mangrove planting in commemoration of Earth Day. The activity was conducted on 26–27 April 2025 and involved lecturers, students, village officials, local communities, and mangrove farmers. The implementation method adopted a participatory approach consisting of site surveys, team coordination, environmental education and awareness-raising, mangrove planting, and initial activity evaluation. The results showed an increase in community participation and concern regarding the importance of mangrove conservation. Mangrove planting was carried out by considering substrate conditions, planting distance, and tidal patterns to provide the seedlings with favorable growth opportunities. In addition to generating ecological benefits through coastal area rehabilitation, this activity also improved community knowledge of the role of mangroves in maintaining environmental sustainability. Therefore, this community service activity can serve as a community-based conservation model that supports the sustainable resilience of coastal ecosystems

Abstract

Limbah sekam padi merupakan hasil samping penggilingan padi yang jumlahnya melimpah di wilayah agraris seperti Kecamatan Lhoknga, Kabupaten Aceh Besar. Selama ini sekam padi umumnya dibakar atau ditumpuk tanpa pemanfaatan optimal, sehingga berpotensi menimbulkan pencemaran lingkungan dan kehilangan nilai ekonomi. Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk memberdayakan masyarakat melalui pemanfaatan sekam padi sebagai bahan baku pupuk kompos berbasis teknologi sederhana. Metode pelaksanaan menggunakan pendekatan partisipatif melalui tahapan identifikasi masalah, sosialisasi, penyuluhan, pelatihan praktik pembuatan kompos, serta monitoring dan evaluasi. Bahan yang digunakan meliputi sekam padi, kotoran sapi, dedak, dan bioaktivator EM4 dalam sistem pengomposan. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pengetahuan dan keterampilan masyarakat dalam mengolah limbah sekam menjadi kompos matang yang berwarna cokelat kehitaman, bertekstur remah, dan berbau tanah. Pemanfaatan sekam sebagai bulking agent terbukti mendukung proses aerasi dan mempercepat dekomposisi bahan organik. Secara ekonomi, kegiatan ini berpotensi mengurangi ketergantungan petani terhadap pupuk anorganik dan menekan biaya produksi. Secara ekologis, program ini mendukung penerapan sistem pertanian tanpa limbah (zero waste farming system) serta mengurangi praktik pembakaran sekam. Program ini menunjukkan bahwa pengelolaan limbah pertanian berbasis potensi lokal dapat meningkatkan kemandirian dan kesejahteraan masyarakat desa secara berkelanjutan.
