Abstract

Miopia merupakan salah satu masalah kesehatan dunia. Banyak peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa progresivitas miopia pada anak usia sekolah terjadi melalui proses form deprivation myopia(FDM). Bukti-bukti penelitian menunjukkan bahwa miopia lebih diakibatkan oleh faktor-faktor lingkungan dibandingkan faktor genetik. Penggunaan kacamata, lensa kontak, ortho-k maupun farmakologis dapat mengurangi perkembangan FDM. Terapi farmakologis menggunakan atropin merupakan cara terbaik menghambat FDM meskipun memiliki sejumlah efek samping.Miopia is one of the world’s greatest health problems. Many researchers concluded that the progression of school-age myopia happens through form deprivation myopia. Due to the fact that myopia is caused more by environmental factors rather than genetic factors, researchers are trying to find the best prevention modalities. Spectacles, contact lens, ortho-k or pharmacologic approach are the modalities to halt the progression of FDM. Atropine can be the best modalities to prevent FDM despite its side effects.
