Abstract

Knowledge is the result of "knowing" and this occurs after people have sensed a certain object. Sensing of objects occurs through the five human senses, namely sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch by themselves. The composition of the contraceptive pill contains synthetic estrogen and progestin preparations so that pregnancy can be prevented by suppressing ovulation where the hormones LH and FSH are suppressed, thickening cervical mucus, and preventing thickening of the endometrium. The prevalence of family planning according to family planning devices from active family planning participants in Indonesia is 66.20%. The dominant contraceptive methods are injections (34%) and birth control pills (17%). This study aims to determine the relationship between knowledge of women of childbearing age about birth control pills with adherence to the use of birth control pills. The research methodology in this study used analytical observation with a cross sectional approach, 40 samples by purposive sampling, in Baru Ladang Bambu, Medan Tuntungan. Based on the results of statistical analysis obtained by 40 respondents, it can be concluded that there is a relationship between the knowledge of women of childbearing age about birth control pills with adherence to the use of birth control pills, which means that the better the knowledge of women of reproductive age couples, the more obedient in the use of birth control pills.

Abstract

Iron-deficiency anemia during pregnancy remains a major public health concern in developing countries. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of iron and folic acid supplementation, known as iron tablets, in reducing the risk of anemia among pregnant women. A descriptive qualitative literature review method was employed by analyzing nine eligible studies published between 2013 and 2023. Articles were selected from databases including Google Scholar, PubMed, and ScienceDirect using specific keywords. The findings suggest that regular consumption of iron tablets, particularly starting in the second trimester and meeting the minimum recommended dose of 90 tablets, is effective in improving hemoglobin levels and lowering anemia prevalence. However, compliance remains a significant challenge, influenced by side effects, maternal knowledge, and social support. The review highlights the need for behavior-based interventions and family involvement to enhance adherence. The implication of this review supports the integration of targeted health education and follow-up strategies within antenatal care services to reduce anemia-related risks in pregnancy.

Abstract

Nutritional problems among pregnant women remain a major public health concern in Indonesia, particularly related to anemia, low birth weight (LBW), and stunting. One of the main contributing factors is the lack of knowledge among pregnant women about the importance of consuming a balanced diet during pregnancy. This community service activity aimed to increase pregnant women’s knowledge regarding balanced nutrition through a participatory, direct educational approach. The activity was conducted in May 2025 at the Independent Midwife Practice of Deby Cyntia Yun, Medan City, involving 30 pregnant women from various trimesters. The methods used included interactive lectures, group discussions, practical menu planning simulations, and evaluations through pre- and post-tests. The results showed an increase in knowledge scores from an average of 63% to 83%, indicating a 20% improvement. Participants responded very positively, with 93% reporting increased confidence in choosing healthy foods and 100% expressing interest in participating in similar future activities. The clinic partner also welcomed the program and suggested its regular implementation.  This activity demonstrates that a communicative, contextual, and practical educational approach to balanced nutrition is effective in enhancing pregnant women’s understanding. It is hoped that similar programs can be replicated in other healthcare facilities and contribute to stunting prevention and the improvement of maternal and child health quality in the community.

Abstract

MP-ASI is food that is given together with breast milk until the age of 2 years. Giving mother's milk substitute (PASI) to children aged before 6 months is not recommended because it can increase the risk of disease, especially diarrhea. There are 30.2% of babies who get exclusive breastfeeding and babies who get MP-ASI as much as 69.8% of the total babies in Indonesia. The sampling technique was Total Sampling with the following sample criteria: Mothers who had babies under or equal to 2 years (24 months), the sample in this study was 30 people. The results of statistical tests using the Chi-Square test showed that the relationship between mother's knowledge in giving MP-ASI to infants had good knowledge of 8 respondents (47.1%). Employment relations with giving MP-ASI to infants are the majority of mothers who do not work as many as 19 respondents (63.3%), and socio-cultural relations with providing MP-ASI to infants is the majority of mothers who have good socio- culture as many as 22 respondents (73.3%). The results of an analysis of the factors that influence the provision of MP-ASI to babies at the Hanna Kasih Primary Clinic in 2022 from 17 respondents (56.7%) who have good knowledge, this is closely related to preventing early complementary feeding.
