Abstract

Constipation is a condition in which the stool hardens which makes it difficult to pass through the anus, and causes discomfort in the rectum. Babies who experience constipation are characterized by crying, whining in pain and the face turning red before defecation. The prevalence of constipation in Indonesia is very low, in Bali in children aged 4-6 years, the prevalence of constipation is 15.1%, while in children in West Padang District, Padang City, the constipation rate is 19.9 with the ratio between boys and girls is 1,2 : 1. This study aims to determine whether complementary feeding affects the occurrence of constipation in infants. This study uses a descriptive method with an exploratory approach, 30 samples with a total sampling technique, in the Ladang Bambu Village, Medan Tuntungan, with univariate data analysis. From the results of statistical analysis obtained, p = 0.02 (α = 0.05) with p < 0.05 so it can be concluded that this hypothesis failed to be rejected, namely that there was a significant effect between the provision of complementary feeding on the occurrence of constipation in children in Bamboo Farm Village. It is hoped that community services will provide counseling about MP ASI, so that babies get nutrition according to their needs and avoid constipation.

Abstract

Adolescent individuals are often involved in conflicts and have many problems, both problems with themselves or with the environment outside themselves. Many teenagers are not ready to compensate for the changes they experience, such as physical changes, emotional levels, morals, social interactions and ways of acting and thinking. Recently, during the spread of the coronavirus, many teenagers only spend time sleeping and then wake up to study online or play gadgets. This raises concerns about changes in adolescents' conditions, especially their psychological conditions. Teenagers are preoccupied with online schooling which makes them busier in the virtual world than in the real world. This, not only causes boredom for adolescents, but also has an effect on adolescent mental health, so they need a partner who can help with the problems experienced. This community service intends to improve the degree of adolescent health by empowering adolescents through Peer Education of their own friends within the scope of the organization in the context of monitoring growth and development with tools in the form of Adolescent Health Cards (KMS) and simulations as a vehicle for empowering adolescents in improving peer counselor skills. The approach method offered to solve the problems of program partners that have been agreed upon using a survey approach, namely data collection in Ladang Bambu Village, Medan Tuntungan Subdistrict with observational data collection methods by means of field observation. Implementation is carried out according to a predetermined schedule by gathering teenagers who have become members together. Based on BPS data (2020), the under-five mortality rate per 1000 live births according to the age of the mother at delivery in 2017 was mostly at the age of 40-49 years (58%) and at the age of <20 years (40%). The prevalence of constipation in Indonesia is very small, in Bali in children aged 4-6 years the prevalence of constipation is 15.1%, while in children in Padang Barat Subdistrict, Padang City the constipation rate is 19.9 & with a ratio between males and females is 1.2: 1Constipation is a condition where feces harden so that it is difficult to pass through the anus, and causes a disturbed or uncomfortable feeling in the rectum. Contipation occurs at all ages, and is generally characterized by a low frequency of bowel movements (less than 3 times a week). Breastfed infants may have a bowel movement after every feeding or only once in 7-10 days (Eka, 2014). Constipation may occur due to early complementary feeding. The optimal age for starting solids is 6 months old. The recommendation for complementary feeding can be started when the baby is 4-6 months old. Exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months provides many benefits for the baby and also the mother.

Abstract

Nutritional problems among pregnant women remain a major public health concern in Indonesia, particularly related to anemia, low birth weight (LBW), and stunting. One of the main contributing factors is the lack of knowledge among pregnant women about the importance of consuming a balanced diet during pregnancy. This community service activity aimed to increase pregnant women’s knowledge regarding balanced nutrition through a participatory, direct educational approach. The activity was conducted in May 2025 at the Independent Midwife Practice of Deby Cyntia Yun, Medan City, involving 30 pregnant women from various trimesters. The methods used included interactive lectures, group discussions, practical menu planning simulations, and evaluations through pre- and post-tests. The results showed an increase in knowledge scores from an average of 63% to 83%, indicating a 20% improvement. Participants responded very positively, with 93% reporting increased confidence in choosing healthy foods and 100% expressing interest in participating in similar future activities. The clinic partner also welcomed the program and suggested its regular implementation.  This activity demonstrates that a communicative, contextual, and practical educational approach to balanced nutrition is effective in enhancing pregnant women’s understanding. It is hoped that similar programs can be replicated in other healthcare facilities and contribute to stunting prevention and the improvement of maternal and child health quality in the community.
