The research used observational analytic method with cross sectional dresign. The population was 365 KB (Family Planning) acceptors at Kampung KB, Kelurahan Rengas Pulau, and 78 of them were used as the samples. The result of multiple logistic regression analysis at p-value=0.25 showed that there was the influence of knowledge (p=0.018, PR=5.987), parity (p=0.001, PR=0.058), husbands’ or families’ support (p=0.001, PR=21.061), culture (p=0.005, PR=0.041), the distance of health facility (p=0.010, PR=0.089) on MKJP users’ participation in PUS. However, there was no influence of health care providers (p=0.054, PR=4.507) on MKJP users’ participation in PUS. The variable which had the most dominant influence of husbands’ or families’ support which had the opportunity of 21.061 time more than that of the other variables in MKJP users’ participation in PUS. It is recommended that the health care providers support the use of MKJP so that PUS can understand the benefit of using contraception.

Abstract

Early Initiation of Breastfeeding (IMD) is the process of a baby suckling immediately after birth, in which the baby is allowed to find the mother's nipple on its own (not thrust into the nipple). Breastfeeding properly and correctly can increase the success of exclusive breastfeeding, the coverage of breastfeeding is to prevent infant mortality, impaired infant development, and prevent hypothermia. The IMD process creates closeness between mother and baby. This study aims to determine the relationship between knowledge and attitudes of midwives on the implementation of Early Breastfeeding Initiation (IMD). The research method used was analytic observational with a cross sectional approach, with a sample of 34 midwives who opened their own practice around Medan Tuntungan District. The results of the analysis showed that of the 34 respondents who had sufficient knowledge as many as 18 people (53%) and the majority carried out IMD as many as 12 people (66.7%). And of the 34 respondents the majority had a negative attitude as many as 27 people (79.5%), and the majority did not carry out IMD as many as 17 people (47%). There is a significant relationship between the knowledge and attitudes of midwives towards the implementation of the IMD, where the better the knowledge, the more motivated the midwife to implement the IMD. With a value of = 0.015. And a negative attitude will cause the midwife not to carry out the IMD with a value of = 0.021. It is hoped that the midwives at BPM, Medan Tuntungan Sub-district in 2021, will further improve the IMD implementation program in the future.

Abstract

Every family has health duties that aim to prevent health problems and care for sick family members. Family health duties include five main aspects: preventing illness, maintaining health, managing existing illnesses, participating in health programs, and coping with emergency situations. The implementation of these health duties is often influenced by the family culture, including the values and customs of a particular ethnic group. This study focuses on the implementation of family health duties in the Minangkabau community, which is known for its matrilineal kinship system. The population of this study consisted of Minangkabau families in Nogo Rejo Village, Galang Sub-district. The main objective of this study was to identify how Minangkabau families carry out their health duties. The results showed that knowledge about the implementation of family health duties in the Minangkabau community is still limited. This indicates that further research is needed to uncover the cultural factors that influence the implementation of family health duties among the Minangkabau. By digging deeper into family health practices in this cultural context, it is hoped that more appropriate approaches can be found in supporting Minangkabau families in maintaining health and caring for sick family members. This research provides an important basis for further exploration of how Minangkabau cultural values and practices may influence family health. Through a deeper understanding of the relationship between culture and family health, more effective intervention efforts can be designed to improve the quality of life of Minangkabau people.
