Abstract

The re-designation of the Houthi militant group as a terrorist organisation by the United States (US) could reignite conflict tensions in the Middle East region. This US decision shows the inconsistency of Joe Biden's administration, which had revoked the Houthis' terrorist status at the beginning of his administration. This research aims to analyse the motives for the US decision to re-designate the Houthis as a terrorist group. The method used in this research is an exploratory descriptive qualitative method using data collection techniques, namely observation and literature study. The results of this study conclude that the US's changing attitude towards the Houthis' terrorist status is part of the US strategy to put pressure on the Houthis, because the Iran-backed Houthis are a threat to the US in maintaining its existence in the Middle East Region, especially in Yemen. Yemen's position is very strategic for international trade, because it is the entrance gate for navigation to the Red Sea. The US also has ideological interests in Yemen; it wants to spread the Sunni ideology adopted by Saudi Arabia as its alliance against Iran, which spreads the Shia ideology adopted by the Houthis as its allies

Abstract

The study employs a dual approach, combining psychological analysis with Sufi teachings to comprehend the multifaceted nature of death. Methodologically, it synthesizes insights from psychological theories on emotional detachment and the human perception of mortality. This is juxtaposed with the Sufi perspective, derived from extensive literature, teachings, and interpretations of Sufi scholars and texts. The psychological aspect delves into the notion of psychological death, exploring how individuals, while physically alive, can experience emotional numbness, disconnect, and insensitivity to their surroundings. This exploration incorporates established psychological frameworks and case studies that illustrate these states. Simultaneously, the Sufistic approach interprets death as an inevitable certainty, emphasizing the spiritual separation between the body and the eternal soul. This perspective draws upon Sufi texts, traditions, and philosophies that emphasize the eternal nature of the soul and the transformative aspect of death. The study synthesizes these perspectives, aiming to provide a comprehensive understanding of death. It examines how the psychological and Sufi viewpoints converge and diverge, shedding light on the multifaceted meanings and implications of death within the human experience. Through this methodological fusion, the study endeavors to offer a nuanced perspective on death that encompasses both psychological and spiritual dimensions.

Abstract

This study offers a critical analysis of the Dilalah Lafz ala al-Ahkam method (verbal indication of legal rulings) as conceptualized by Hasan al-Turabi, with particular emphasis on his interpretive approach to Qur’anic injunctions concerning prohibited forms of marriage. Employing a qualitative, library-based research methodology, this paper adopts a descriptive-analytical framework and draws primarily from al-Tafsir al-Tawhidi as the central textual source. The theoretical underpinning is grounded in the framework of mantuq and mafhum—a methodological apparatus developed by Khalid Ibn Uthman al-Sabt for legal hermeneutics within the Dilalah Lafz tradition. The analysis proceeds by identifying and cataloguing relevant Qur’anic verses addressing prohibited marriages, explicating al-Turabi’s hermeneutical approach, and subsequently assessing it through the lens of mantuq and mafhum theory. The findings suggest that al-Turabi’s interpretative method is consistent with the analytical strategies of the Mutakallimin school, especially in his reliance on explicit (mantuq) and implicit (mafhum) textual meanings to derive legal rulings.
