Abstract

This article describes the existence of the role of Chinese Peranakan women who are active as preachers (da'iyah). Chinese Peranakan Muslims, although in a minority community group in Indonesia, have experienced significant development every year. The container for fostering the Chinese convert community in Indonesia has been built in the form of a hybrid worship, the mosque/prayer room building is built in the concept of a combination of Arab-Islamic (Nusantara) and Chinese (Peranakan) culture that resembles a 'klenteng' and has Nusantara characteristics. The Chinese Peranakan Muslim minority carries out Islamic studies through routine and intensive guidance for converts. Not a few Chinese Peranakan women appear to the public as preachers, for example Tan Mei Hwa in East Java. Through a study of media text analysis, virtual ethnographic studies and literature, this study concludes 4 findings: (1) Chinese Peranakan Women Preachers in Indonesia are still very minimal, but their existence is generally accepted by Muslims; (2) Chinese Muslim Women Preachers represent the role of women (Gender) in the public sphere who are not marginalized from the majority group; (3) As a Chinese descendant, female preachers demonstrate a moderate personal identity in religion and respect the diverse differences in tribe, ethnicity and race in the midst of social life in society, especially in Java; (4) female preachers receive equal recognition with other Chinese descendant preachers such as Ustadz Felix Siauw, Koko Liem, Koh Dennis Lim and others.

Abstract

Abstract: In today's digital era, technology has made it easier for people to share and access various types of information, including the dissemination of Islamic teachings or dakwah. YouTube has become one of the platforms that provide opportunities for preachers to convey Islamic teachings in a more creative and engaging way for audiences. One prominent figure in digital dakwah is Bunda Aniqq Alfaqiroh, who, through YouTube streaming on PPA Institute, delivers content with themes of spiritual motivation. This study aims to analyze dakwah messages in the YouTube streaming titled "THERAPY OF FORGIVENESS" using a descriptive qualitative approach and Ferdinand de Saussure’s semiotic analysis method. The analysis is conducted by identifying the signifier, which includes the visual and audio elements used to convey the message, and the signified, which refers to the underlying meanings. The findings of the study reveal that dakwah messages in the YouTube streaming "THERAPY OF FORGIVENESS" are conveyed through various verbal and non-verbal symbols, such as music, facial expressions, voice intonation, and video visualization, which function as signifiers. Meanwhile, the interpreted meanings (signified) emphasize Islamic values regarding the importance of forgiveness, inner peace, and spiritual motivation to live life with sincerity. With the continuous growth of digital media, this study is expected to serve as a reference for preachers and content creators in optimizing digital platforms as a broader and more effective means of dakwah.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the role of YouTube as a medium for Islamic da’wah and its effectiveness in reaching diverse audiences through varied content strategies. With the rapid expansion of digital platforms, YouTube has become a critical tool in spreading Islamic teachings to a global audience. The research uses a qualitative approach, employing content analysis and interviews with content creators and viewers. The findings reveal that YouTube’s accessibility allows for the widespread distribution of da’wah content, reaching Muslims worldwide at any time. The study also identifies that diverse content strategies, including traditional lectures and creative visuals, significantly enhance viewer engagement, especially among younger audiences. However, the research also highlights challenges in ensuring the accuracy of content and preventing misinformation. The implications suggest that while YouTube is a powerful tool for da’wah, stricter oversight and content monitoring are essential. Future research should explore the effectiveness of other social media platforms and examine long-term viewer engagement.

Abstract

Keterampilan menulis kreatif merupakan cara efektif untuk menyampaikan pesan dakwah secara persuasif dan menarik. Namun, santri di Pondok Pesantren Al-Musyawwir masih menghadapi tantangan dalam menulis, terutama terkait struktur, gaya bahasa, dan daya tarik pesan. Program pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk membekali para santri dengan keterampilan menulis kreatif yang sistematis dan selaras dengan prinsip-prinsip dakwah Islam. Program ini dilaksanakan melalui pelatihan intensif, diskusi kelompok, dan latihan menulis dalam berbagai genre seperti esai, cerpen Islam, dan artikel keagamaan. Kegiatan diawali dengan asesmen awal kemampuan menulis para santri, dilanjutkan dengan penyampaian teknik menulis, latihan terbimbing, dan evaluasi melalui umpan balik yang membangun. Hasil program menunjukkan peningkatan yang signifikan dalam kemampuan santri dalam memilih diksi yang tepat, menyusun struktur tulisan, dan mengemas pesan dakwah secara komunikatif. Program ini juga menumbuhkan kepercayaan diri para santri dalam menuangkan gagasan melalui tulisan, siap dipublikasikan di media dan platform digital pesantren. Diharapkan program ini dapat menjadi model pengembangan berkelanjutan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan menulis santri dalam mendukung dakwah berbasis teks.

Abstract

The transformation of social media in the digital era has changed the way Islamic da'wah is delivered, including through communicative and aesthetic digital illustrations. Instagram has become a strategic platform for conveying da'wah messages visually in an engaging and contextual manner. This study aims to analyze the representation and management of Islamic da'wah messages through digital illustrations on the Instagram account @Akhlaqpedia using a descriptive qualitative method and Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis. The findings reveal that visual elements such as characters, colors, text, and symbols function not only as aesthetic tools but also as conveyors of meaning across three semiotic levels: denotation (realistic depictions), connotation (moral messages and spiritual calls), and myth (social constructions of ideal Muslim identity). In addition to visual interpretation, this study highlights the importance of digital content management in sustaining da'wah effectiveness ranging from content planning, visual consistency, to audience engagement strategies. The integration of creative design and structured content management enables @Akhlaqpedia to maintain relevance and trust among its followers, particularly the younger generation. This study contributes to the discourse on digital da'wah and provides insights for further research on media management, audience reception, and multimodal Islamic communication.

Abstract

Da'wah is a tool for conveying religious messages. Like any tool, da'wah has a clear target or objective, which is to guide the community toward goodness. Over time, numerous methods have been developed to convey da'wah messages, one of which is through music or songs. While many religious leaders deliver da'wah from pulpits and in places of worship, there are also those who choose to communicate da'wah messages through poetic lyrics accompanied by harmonious melodies, commonly referred to as religious songs. This study explores the role of songs in conveying da'wah messages, with a focus on a song by Syubbanul Muslimin from the album Kidung Surgawi titled "Jangan Berputus Asa" ("Do Not Despair"). The study aims to examine how da'wah lyrics within the song contribute to listeners' understanding of the meaning and messages conveyed. Using Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotic method, the author analyzes the song with a descriptive approach through the words in the lyrics, interviews with members of Syubbanul Muslimin, and data collected from media platforms. This study reveals that the song Jangan Berputus Asa carries a message encouraging people to always be grateful for Allah blessings, especially the spirit to keep striving for His approval. It reminds us to be aware of the ups and downs of life and to  belief that everything is determined by Allah and always contains wisdom behind it. The essence is to accept everything with gratitude, sincerity, patience, and resilience. Moreover, it serves as a motivational boost for us to keep moving forward.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This article discusses da'wah through print media (Bi Al-Kitabah). This paper aims to determine the effectiveness of spreading da'wah through print media, namely newspapers. In Islamic boarding schools, newspapers become an alternative medium for students to channel their thoughts and share knowledge. Being in the Pesantren environment does not close the boundaries for students in developing their insights. The development of technology today requires the younger generation to become an innovative and highly intellectual generation. Print media must now follow the flow of the times to maintain the existence of the media, one of which is by maintaining the actuality of writing. In the Nurul Jadid Paiton Islamic boarding school in Probolinggo – especially in the Qur'an Education Center of Nurul Jadid Islamic Boarding School, print media is the main media that is efficient and effective in disseminating information and knowledge for readers. In this descriptive qualitative research, researchers use data collection techniques through interviews, observations, and documentation from both offline and online sources. Based on the analysis of the collected data, it can be concluded that the use of print media in the form of newspapers in Islamic boarding schools can have a good impact on the development of knowledge, productivity of written works, and the effectiveness of spreading da'wah.   Keywords: Effectiveness, Da'wah Bi al-Kitabah, Print Media   ABSTRAK Artikel ini membahas dakwah melalui media cetak (Bi Al-Kitabah). Tulisan ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas penyebaran dakwah melalui media cetak, yaitu surat kabar. Di pesantren, koran menjadi media alternatif bagi santri untuk menyalurkan pikiran dan berbagi ilmu. Berada di lingkungan Pesantren tidak menutup batasan bagi mahasiswa dalam mengembangkan wawasannya. Perkembangan teknologi saat ini menuntut generasi muda untuk menjadi generasi yang inovatif dan intelektual tinggi. Media cetak kini harus mengikuti arus zaman untuk mempertahankan eksistensi media tersebut, salah satunya dengan menjaga aktualitas tulisan. Di pondok pesantren Nurul Jadid Paiton Probolinggo – khususnya di Pusat Pendidikan Al-Qur'an Pondok Pesantren Nurul Jadid, media cetak merupakan media utama yang efisien dan efektif dalam menyebarluaskan informasi dan pengetahuan bagi pembaca. Dalam penelitian kualitatif deskriptif ini, peneliti menggunakan teknik pengumpulan data melalui wawancara, observasi, dan dokumentasi baik dari sumber offline maupun online. Berdasarkan analisis data yang terkumpul, dapat disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan media cetak berupa surat kabar di pondok pesantren dapat berdampak baik bagi pengembangan pengetahuan, produktivitas karya tulis, dan efektivitas penyebaran dakwah.   Kata kunci: Efektivitas, Dakwah Bi al-Kitabah, Media Cetak

Abstract

Painting is an art form of beauty has become increasingly crucial to convey Islamic messages and values in the new digital, da’wah media in the digital era, indicating in broadcasting Islam with various forms of methods, one of which is through painting (sign). This digital da’wah is a trend in society, especially the younger generation, the tendency to learn religion through social media. This research investigates the role of paintings in Islamic preaching. taking a case study of paintings on artists on the Instagram account "@_Zukkk". This research aims to analyze how the art by Zukkk plays an important role to starting da'wah in a unique way to convey Islamic values and its impact on viewers' understanding and interaction on the Instagram. This research used by Roland Barthes' semiotic study, which is a continuation of Saussure's thought in introducing the concept of connotation and denotation is the key to analysis. The results show that Zukkk's paintings have a very crucial role in da’wah Islam using a unique way. Through the expression of painting, Zukkk succeeds in providing Islamic messages, such as kindness, justice, patience, to inspiring his followers. Positive responses and powerful interactions, the many people who use the Instagram platform indicate the effectiveness of painting as a medium for delivering da’wah.
