Abstract

This study aims to see the effect of educational philosophy lectures on critical thinking skills and character building of Biology Tadris students at UIN Sulthan Thaha Saifuddin Jambi. This study uses a descriptive quantitative approach with a data collection method through a Likert scale questionnaire consisting of 17 statements related to critical thinking skills and character building. This questionnaire was distributed to 34 students who had taken educational philosophy lectures in semester 3. The results showed that overall students had high scores on aspects of critical thinking skills and character building. The average score for critical thinking skills includes information evaluation, logical, analytical, and reflective thinking, with the highest score on the ability to evaluate information carefully (mean = 4.12). In terms of character building, students showed high scores on the development of moral values, such as honesty, responsibility, and cooperation, with the highest score on the attitude of cooperation in science learning (mean = 4.35). These data indicate that educational philosophy lectures make a positive contribution to students' critical thinking skills and forming the character needed for academic and social success. This study suggests the importance of integrating educational philosophy into higher education curriculum to prepare students not only in mastering scientific material, but also in developing character and critical thinking skills
