Abstract

This study aims to test the effectiveness of the Predict-Observe-Explain (POE)-based Physics module integrated with ethnoscience in improving students' conceptual understanding of static fluid material. This study used a quasi-experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design, involving 70 grade XI students at State Senior High School 8, Jambi City. Data were collected through pretests, posttests, and student response questionnaires. The t-test results showed a significant increase in student learning outcomes, where the average pre-test score of 65.4 increased to 85.7 after learning (p < 0.05). The Pearson correlation test showed a significant positive relationship between student responses to the module and conceptual understanding (r = 0.762, p < 0.05). These findings indicate that the POE-based module integrated with ethnoscience can improve students' conceptual understanding by linking scientific concepts with local wisdom. This study contributes to developing innovative teaching materials that are contextual and empirically evidence-based. Further research is recommended to expand the application of the module to other subjects and larger populations.

Abstract

Understanding laboratory equipment is a fundamental competency in science education. However, students often face difficulties in mastering laboratory tools due to the lack of practical and reliable learning resources. Dependence on invalid sources negatively affects the quality of practicum and research. This study aims to develop and evaluate the feasibility of a digital encyclopedia on laboratory equipment as a learning resource to enhance the effectiveness of science learning. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the 4D model: Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate. The Define stage involved needs analysis through surveys and interviews, curriculum analysis, student characteristics analysis, and formulation of learning objectives. The Design stage focused on creating a product prototype. The product was validated by four experts (a subject matter expert, a media expert, a language expert, and an instructional design expert). Practicality testing involved 28 students and 4 lecturers from the Biology Education study program. The validation results showed scores of 93% for language, 93.2% for content, and 95% for media, indicating that the digital encyclopedia is very feasible for use. Practicality tests resulted in a score of 96.2% from students and 88.33% from lecturers, indicating that the product is very practical, engaging, and effective in supporting independent learning. The final results conclude that the digital encyclopedia is both valid and practical as a learning resource. The study recommends further development with broader content coverage and the integration of Augmented Reality (AR) technology to enhance interactivity.

Abstract

The Effect of Problem-Based Learning on Students’ Beliefs on Physics and Physics Learning This research aimed to investigate the effect of problem-based learning on students’ beliefs about physics and learning physics. The research design is a quasi-experimental,  non-equivalent control group design with samples were senior high school students grade XI at SMAN 1 Jambi City. The research used the Colorado Learning Attitudes About Science Survey (CLASS). Through data analysis using ANCOVA Test can be seen that there was no significant result effect of problem-based learning on students’ beliefs about physics and learning physics. The study’s finding indicates that students’ beliefs about characteristics and obtaining knowledge are difficult to change. Nonetheless, the use of various learning models that focus on the formation of the model building on the physics world through problem-solving that are contextual and real, as well as providing opportunities for students to actively engage in problem-solving can help students develop the belief that they have about the physics from novice-like belief into expert-like belief.
