Abstract

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the snack food sector face challenges such as limited capital, fluctuating raw material prices and intense market competition. This article aims to identify operational efficiencies and cost saving strategies to improve business competitiveness and sustainability. Using Just-In-Time (JIT) and Lean Production approaches, SMEs can reduce waste, cut costs and improve productivity without compromising quality. The analysis focuses on gaps in the adoption of modern technology, resource management and collaboration with suppliers and customers. The methodology includes the evaluation of production efficiency concepts and demand-driven supply chain optimisation. This article offers solutions such as the use of simple automation technologies, such as packaging machines, and a collaborative approach to strengthening supply chain relationships. The contribution of the article is to provide practical guidelines that integrate efficiency strategies, technological innovation and risk management. The expected outcomes are that SMEs will be able to improve productivity, reduce operating costs and create sustainable business models. This approach provides opportunities for SMEs to remain competitive in dynamic markets while supporting local economic growth.

Abstract

The plastics recycling industry plays a vital role in reducing the environmental impact of plastic waste. However, challenges such as high operating costs and low profit margins are hindering its growth. This article explores the application of lean production systems as a potential solution to improve operational efficiency and profitability in this industry. By reducing waste at various stages of production, such as energy consumption, raw materials and production time, lean has been shown to reduce operating costs by up to 10% in large-scale production. In addition, Lean enables companies to increase production capacity without significantly increasing costs. Despite the challenges associated with initial investment and organisational culture change, the long-term benefits of implementing Lean, such as increased profit margins and competitiveness, make it a highly relevant strategy for the plastics recycling industry.

Abstract

The plastic waste recycling industry plays a crucial role in reducing environmental impacts while creating economic value through recycling. This study aims to identify strategies for selecting recycled raw materials that can enhance the profitability of the plastic recycling industry. Using a literature review approach, the study explores various sources of raw materials, such as household, industrial, and commercial waste and analyzes their quality, contamination levels, and processing costs. The findings indicate that high-quality raw materials with low contamination levels, such as industrial waste, result in higher production efficiency and lower costs compared to other materials. Additionally, the adoption of modern technologies such as chemical recycling can increase production efficiency by up to 85%. This study contributes by providing a strategic framework for selecting appropriate raw materials, supporting both environmental sustainability and industry profitability.

Abstract

The National Community Service (PKM) program in Gurah Village, Aceh Besar, was a collaboration between the Faculty of Economics, Serambi Mekkah University, the village government, students, and other stakeholders. The program aimed to strengthen, community capacity, encourage the digitalization of MSMEs, engage students as agents of change, foster environmental awareness, and build cross-university networks. The series of activities included an official opening, the signing of an MoU, a handover of student PPK Ormawa (Student Organizations), cybersecurity training, red shoot planting, and an interactive discussion. This activity provided tangible benefits to the village community, MSMEs, students, universities, and the local government, including improving digital literacy, developing tourism villages, and strengthening partnership networks. The implementation results demonstrated that the National PKM can serve as a model for empowerment based on local wisdom that is inclusive, sustainable, and replicable in other regions.
