Abstract

ABSTRAKMeskipun dianggap merupakan konsep yang klasik, teori pergeseran terjemahan(translation shift) yang diperkenalkan oleh J.C. Catford lewat buku yang merupakankumpulan materi kuliahnyaA Linguistic Theory of Translation(1965) masih sangat seringdipakai dalam analisis penelitian terjemahan. Namun, dalam beberapa referensi yangmembahas pergeseran terjemahan ini terdapat beberapa perbedaan maupun keterbatasandalam hal penerapan analisisnya, sehingga dapat menimbulkan masalah bagi peneliti yangingin menerapkan teori ini dalam penelitian mereka. Pergeseran terjemahan itu dibagimenjadi dua jenis, yaitu level shift dan category shift, yang dimaksudkan untuk mencapaitingkat kesepadanan (equivalence) yang baik bagi kualitas terjemahan yang dihasilkan,baik karena tidak terdapatnya korespondensi formal (formal correspondence) maupun yangdisebabkan oleh alasan-alasan lain, misalnya karena gaya penulisan, pemilihan kata, ataukeinginan penerjemah. Category shift selanjutnya dibagi lagi menjadi empat sub bagian,yaitu structure shift, class shift, unit shift dan intra-system shift. Dalam artikel ini penulismencoba meninjau kembali teori pergeseran terjemahan (translation shift) klasik yangdiperkenalkan Catford dengan mengaplikasikannya pada contoh-contoh penerjemahandari bahasa Inggris ke bahasa Indonesia atau sebaliknya.Kata kunci: Catford, translation shift, kesepadanan,

Abstract

This research is aimed at identifying the amount of the ability dimensions contained in the Test of English Proficiency (TOEP), particularly in the listening section. This study is an explorative descriptive quantitative research. The data of the study are the responses of the TOEP participants in the whole Indonesia in 2010, in some TOEP components. The participants are grade IX students of senior high schools. The collected data were gained from the data documentation of the Diretorate of Senior High Schools Founding of the National Education Ministry, Jakarta. The data analysis for identifying the dimension was done by implementing exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. The exploratory factor analysis was done by using SPSS computer program. The result of the research shows that of the seven sets of listening which were analyzed, all of them contain listening dominant dimension if they are analyzed using graphics method, explainable variance, and Eigen value ratio.

Abstract

The multi-modal translation process greatly influences the results of the translation of children's picture storybooks produced by Yogyakarta State University students. Bildung from the translator and the method used is a guarantee to produce a quality translation. This research tries to reveal the translation process of children's picture stories from genetic, generic, and affective aspects. The data were analyzed using the distribution and referential method. Through the SFL and VG (multi-modal) approaches, the researcher reveals the translation process carried out by students of English Literature at Yogyakarta State University. The research results show that genetic aspects obtained from interviews and questionnaires are positively correlated with affective aspects. The positive results of the synthesis of both are also confirmed by positive patterns in the generic aspect. This is proven through the intercorrelation of text and images which complement each other in presenting an interpretation for a comprehensive reader. Based on the intercorrelation of these three aspects, it can be concluded that based on this phenomenon, translators in the translation process use multimodality theory to present appropriate translations with good translation quality.
