Abstract

Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic inflammatory disease that can degrade the quality of patient survival. Conventional treatments of this disease have potentially dangerous side effects. Therefore, many patients are turning to alternative medicine using medicinal herbs, one of which is the fruit of Punica granatum L. The aim of this research was to determine antiarthritis effect of 80% ethanolic extract of Punica granatum L. fruit peel which had been given orally on 17-30th day based on decreased edema volume and percentage indexes of arthritis. The method was adjuvant induced arthritis by using the complete freund’s adjuvant 0,1 mL by subplantar and allowed to arthritis until day 16. The animals test were used 33 male rats of Sprague Dawley strain that were divided into six groups: normal control, positive control, negative control, and three groups had received suspension of 80% ethanolic extract of Punica granatum L. fruit peel in 0,5% CMC at doses 20, 40, and 80 mg/200 g body weight. The Edema volume was measured by pletismometer on days 17, 20, 23, 26, 29, 31 and indexes of arthritis determined on days 17 and 31. The Results showed that they were not significant difference in the decreased edema volume and the percentage indexes of arthritis, although the percentage inhibition of edema elevated with increasing dose.

Abstract

Hyperuricemia treatment can be given roots of Acalypha indica Linn. Combined with red ginger plant (Zingiber officinale Rosc.) as anti-inflammatory drug. This study aimed to examine the effect of aqueous extract the roots of Acalypha indica Linn. with 70%ethanol extract of rhizome of Red Ginger from the decrease in blood uric acid levels of male rats made hiperurisemia by potassium oxonate. There were 35 male white rats of Sprague Dawley strain weighing 180 g to 200 gs were divided into seven groups. Three groups were given a combination of extract, consist of a fixed dose 5.4 g/200 g bb of Acalypha indica L. was combined with varied dose of red ginger, respectively 14 mg/200 g bb, 28 mg/200 g bb, and 56 mg / 200 g bb suspended with 0.5% CMC solution. Another groups consisted of a single dosage 5.4 g/200 g bb comparative of Acalypha indica Linn, allopurinol comparison, control induction, and normal controls were administered orally for eight days.Measurement of uric acid levels in blood plasma by enzymatic colorimetric method on UV-VIS spectrophotometer with a wavelength 520 nm. The results showed that the combination 5.4 g/200 g aqueous extract the root of Acalypha indica Linn with 56 mg/200 g red ginger might decrease uric acid levels equivalent to allopurinol and normal controls.

Abstract

Delima (Punica granatum L) merupakan salah satu buah memiliki aktivitas antioksidan yang kuat karena mengandung senyawa flavanoid dan tannin seperti asam elagic, asam gallat, punicalin, punicalagin, anthocianin, elligatanin, gallotanin, kuersetin, katekin. Senyawa—senyawa ini diketahui dapat mencegah dan menghambat terbentuknya radikal bebas yang penyebabkan penuaan dini dan penyakit kronis. Dalam penelitian ini ekstrak kulit buah delima diformulasikan dalam bentuk krim yang dibedakan kandungan nya yaitu konsentrasi 0, 75%, 1%, 2%. Uji kestabilan fisik dilakukan dengan penyimpanan sediaan pada tiga suhu yaitu suhu kamar; suhu 40C; 40,2 C, uji mekanik dan cycling test. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkkan bahwa krim ekstrak kulit buah delima 0,75%,1% dan 2% memiliki kestabilan setelah pengujian suhu kamar; suhu 40C; 40,2 C, uji mekanik dan cycling test. Penentuan aktivitas antioksidan dilakukan dengan metode peredaman DPPH berdasarkan nilai penghambatan (IC50) yang didapat. Dengan demikian diperoleh hasil bahwa krim ekstrak kulit buah delima dengan konsentrasi 0, 75%, 1 % dan 2% memiliki aktivitas antioksidan dan masih memenuhi nilai minimum IC50. Uji statistik Anova menunjukkan bahwa aktivitas antioksidan pada krim ekstrak kulit buah delima dengan waktu peyimpanan to sampai t8 mengalami penurunan yang tidak bermakna dan penurunan aktivitas antioksidan sebelum dan sesudah penyinaran UV A dengan uji Wilcoxon pada krim ekstrak kulit buah delima juga tidak bermakna

Abstract

In the previous study the analgesic effect of Cinnamommum zeylanicum Breyn had been investigating. The aim of this study was to investigate analgesic effect of the 70% ethanol extract of cinnamon bark (Cinnamommum zeylanicum Breyn.). This study used Tail Flick method at 25 male mice which have passed sensitivity test, divided into five groupes. Group I as negative control was administered 0,5% CMC, group Il as positive control was administered tramadol HCI, group Ill, IV and V was administered extract of cinnamon bark at 8; 16 and 32 mg/20 g BW. Drugs were orally administered to mice. The reaction of time exhibited by each animal was counted for two hour with interval thirty minutes. The Result revealed that the prepared extract in at the all dose, had analgesic effect significantly in all groups which have been studied (p< 0,05) in comparison to the negative control, to the highest analgesic effect by dose (32 mg/ 20 g BW). Our results showed that the analgesic effect of extract (32 mg/20 g BW) the same with tramadol hidroclorida.

Abstract

The effect of Justicia gendarussa leaves extract has been investigated using oxonate-induced hyperuricemic male albino rats. In this experiment thirty five male albino rats were divided randomly into seven groups. There were three group doses variations of J. gendarussa extract that were 1.3 g/kg bw, 2.6 g/kg bw and 5.2 g/kg bw; two comparison groups that were allopurinol 0.68 g/kg bw and herbal “X” 0.85 g/kg bw; and two control groups that were induced control potassium oxonate 0.25 mg/kg bw and normal control CMC 0,5 %. Intraperitoneal administration of potassium oxonate 0.25 mg/kg bw was given one hour before administration of test drugs in eight day and plasma uric acid was measured in rats after two hours. Plasma uric acid was measured by spectrophotometric on 520 nm with enzymatic method. The results showed that all extracts could reduced uric acid level of rats. The decreasing potency of uric acid level was equal to doses increase, so the best result that can reduce uric acid level was J. gandarussa extract at a dose 5.2 g/ kg bw. This results indicated that J. gendarussa leaves extract may be effective for the prevention and the treatment of hyperuricemia.

Abstract

Acute Toxicity of Justicia gendarussa Burm. Leaves. Preminelary experiment showed that ethanolic extract of gandarusa leaves (Justicia gendarussa Burm.) could decreased uric acid blood level on rats. The aim of this experiment was to determine of the value LD50 and liver function based on activities of aminotransferase. Animals test which were used in this experiment were 50 males and 50 females white mice. They were divided into 5 groups. Group 1 as control group was given aquadest. Group 2-5 were treated by ethanolic extract of gandarusa leaves with dosage 4, 8, 16, and 32 g/kg bw. The LD50 value was determined by the amount of death in group during 24 hours after giving a single dose of test substance. The result showed that the highest dose was practically non toxic with LD50 value of 31.99 g/kg bw (male groups) and 27.85 g/kg bw (female groups). Measurement of aminotransferase activity was done by using colorimetric method. The result of ANOVA analysis for liver function showed that the giving test substance 4 g/kg bw –16 g/kg bw was not significantly different between treated groups and control group.
