Abstract

Facebook merupakan salah satu bentuk dari media sosial yang seharusnya menjadi salah satu tempat untuk mengekspresikan diri namun pada kenyataannya berbelok menjadi pemantik konflik. Mudahnya untuk membuat akun facebook sehingga memunculkan akun-akun palsu yang kemudian menuliskan/meneruskan berita tidak benar yang pada akhirnya merugikan pihak lain. Status facebook yang mengekspresikan keadaan yang sedang dialami atau pun keadaan diri sendiri yang kemudian dikirim di akun pribadi maupun group facebook terbesar kota samarinda dengan konotasi negatif dapat dianggap penghinaan atau pencemaran nama baik apabila ada kaitannya dengan orang lain. Sulitnya untuk membedakan antara kebebasan mengekspresikan diri dengan penghinaan, hal ini dikarenakan tidak adanya tolak ukur untuk sebuah kebebasan, sehingga menyebabkan setiap orang memiliki pandangannya masing-masing. Akibatnya banyak penghinaan “berlindung” didalam kebebasan berekspresi, padahal penghinaan dalam wujud pencemaran nama baik adalah pembunuhan karakter. Metode Penelitian yang digunakan adalah yuridis Empiris yaitu penelitian hukum yang bertujuan untuk memperoleh data secara langsung dari Kepolisian Resort Kota Samarinda pada unit criminal khusus tentan pencemaran nama baik melalui media sosial. Kebebasan berekspresi/berpendapat di muka umum sebagaimana yang diatur dalam Pasal 28E ayat (3) pada Undang – Undang Dasar Negara Republik Indonesia Tahun 1945 dan kebebasan berekspresi/berpendapat dengan menggunakan teknologi diatur dalam Pasal 27 ayat (3) dalam Undang-Undang Republik Indonesia Nomor 19 Tahun 2016 Tentang Perubahan Atas Undang-Undang Nomor 11 Tahun 2008 Tentang Informasi Dan Transaksi Elektronik menimbulkan dilema hukum yang berkembang di masyarakat.

Abstract

This research identifies the grammatical cohesion devices of hortatory exposition texts used on senior high school textbook. A descriptive qualitative method was employed in conducting the study. It was aimed to find out (1) types of grammatical cohesion devices realized on hortatory exposition texts of senior high school textbook, (2) the extent to which grammatical cohesion devices help the texts achieve their cohesion, (3) the pedagogical benefits of hortatory exposition texts taken from senior high school textbook after being analyzed by grammatical cohesion devices viewed from the critical pedagogy philosophies. There are five hortatory exposition texts that were analyzed by using the cohesion taxonomy as suggested by Halliday Hasan (1976). The findings revealed that the total use of grammatical cohesion devices in five hortatory exposition texts were different. The first text showed the small use of reference, substitution, ellipsis, and conjunction, it was counted 39 items found in the first text. Meanwhile the use of grammatical cohesion devices in the third text was the highest, it was counted 148. Moreover, it was also proved that those devices could helped the text achieved their cohesion. The writer also summed up that hortatory exposition texts from textbook were beneficial for the students and it was appropriate with critical pedagogy principles.

Abstract

In English learning process forces teacher and students mix language, especially when teacher give instructions to students in ice breaking session. Limited vocabulary and limited expression makes students use two language in deliver their opinion. In this study, the writer addressed three research questions; 1) what types of code-mixing are used by the teacher and students in classroom interaction of ice breaking session?; 2) what are the functions of code mixing used the teacher and students in classroom interaction of ice breaking session?; 3) what are teacher’s perspectives on using code mixing in the classroom interaction of ice breaking session?. The purpose of this study was to find out the types, functions and teacher’s perspective in using code mixing in classroom interaction. The result of this study showed that insertion was realized in 51 (30.4%) clauses, alternation was realized in 33 (19.6%) clauses, and congruent lexicalization was realized in 1 (0.6%) clause. Moreover, the writer found that 5 (2.9%) clauses indicated as quotation, for addressee specification those were 12 (7.1%) clauses. Moreover, 20 (11.9%) clauses as repetition, 7 (4.2%) clauses indicated as interjection. Next, message qualification had 1 (0.6%­) clause, and personalization objectification had 4 (2.4%) clauses. The last function is facility of expression, those had 35 (20.8%) clauses. The perceptions of teacher in using code mixing are helping the students in comprehending the material and easing to catch the topic, enhancing learning such introducing new words, helping students to express themselves better, and helping to avoid misunderstandings.

Abstract

This study aimed at investigating the relationship between the teacher and her students which is revealed in the classroom interaction and investigating the implication of Mood and Modality towards language learning. Mood and Modality systems which relate to the interpersonal meaning could reveal the role and relationship between the interactants (Eggins and Slade, 1997, p. 49). This study employed qualitative discourse analysis to analyze the data which were recorded by the writer into Mood types, Modality system, frequent Subject choice, and speech function. The participants in this study were the teacher and her students of 10th and 11th grade of a senior high school in Ciamis. The results of this study showed that the teacher played her role as information giver. Besides, the teacher also showed her authority to lead the classroom activities by producing imperative clause. Furthermore, this study could improve the EFL students’ speaking skill and critical thinking by interacting with their teacher in the academic setting at which academic setting was a good place to learn and practice the grammatical English.

Abstract

This study aimed at investigating the relational process which was realized in the descriptive text used in senior high school textbooks. Relational process systems which relate to the ideational meaning could reveal the role and involve state of being (including having) between the clauses (Gerrot and Wignell, 1994, p. 67). This study employed qualitative discourse analysis to analyze descriptive texts which were taken from senior high school textbook by the writer into relational process types. In analyzing the data, the writer analyzed it into relational process as suggested by Halliday and Mathiessen (2004; 2014); and Butt et al (2000). The results of this study showed that all types of relational process which covered identifying and attributive process were used in the first, second and third text. Furthermore the attributive process was produced mostly at which it indicated that the these texts contained only one participant  which is called a carrier so it can not be in passive (reversible).

Abstract

The purpose of this research is i) to analyze the competitiveness of Tasikmalaya City embroidery and ii) to formulate a strategy to increase the competitiveness of embroidery craft in Tasikmalaya City. While the target findings in this study is to find a strategy formulation in an effort to improve the competitiveness of embroidery craft Tasikmalaya City. Approach for the preparation of competitiveness strategy of Tasikmalaya City embroidery craft is multi criteria analysis (MCA = Multi Criteria Analysis) with analytical hierarchy process (AHP) method, using expertchoice for windows software, where stakeholders' perceptions become the handles in decision making and priority in the preparation Strategy of competitiveness of embroidery craft. The results of this study indicate that the strategy to increase the competitiveness of bordir craft in Tasikmalaya City is an optimistic strategy.

Abstract

The present study is aimed at finding out 1) students’ voices and their difficulties towards Academic Writing, and 2) students’ awareness of Argumentative essay. This study employs a qualitative case study involving twelve six semester students of English Department and enrolling Academic Writing course. The class is conducted online using Google Meet. The participants are selected purposively and divided into two category: six students with six years writing enjoyment and six students with three years writing enjoyment. The primary data are obtained through semi structured interview and students’ document Argumentative text conducted online. The result of interview are transcribed, categorized, coded, and interpreted. Meanwhile, the students’ document of Argumentative text are analyzed by utilizing the generic structure checklist of argumentative essay adopted from Derewianka (1990). The findings reveals that all of students perceived Academic Writing positively. Meanwhile, all of students’ writing ability are hampered by their less ability in organizing idea systematically, grammar, vocabulary and diction. Specifically, students who have six years writing enjoyment faces difficulties in Academic writing due to their lack of understanding the instruction and managing assignment. In contrary, the students with three years writing enjoyment find Academic Writing difficult due to low management of revision and less enthusiastic and motivation. The result of students’ document of Argumentative texts indicate that students’ awareness on Argumentative essay still need improvement. It is recommended for the further research on related topic to investigate the novel cases using the different method.

Abstract

This research was aimed at identifying the kinds of illocutionary acts spoken by the major and minor characters in the movie, perlocutionary acts performed by the hearers towards the utterances spoken in the movie, and the contextual aspects that influenced the illocutionary and perlocutionary acts indicated in the movie. The qualitative research was applied as the research design and the data were collected through content analysis. The writers employed purposive sampling as their sampling technique. Based on the research findings, the writers identified five kinds of illocutionary acts based on Searle’s theory, namely, representative, directive, commisive, expressive, and declaration. Furthermore, the writers identified 37 perlocutionary acts performed in the movie and the study showed 15 different situational contexts influenced the illocutionary and perlocutionary acts identified in the movie. In short, the kinds of illocutionary act that frequently appears and gives big influence in the movie is a directive illocutionary act.

Abstract

Aplikasi electronik berupa Artificial Intelligent atau Teknologi Informasi yang sangat bervariasi sebagai bukti teknologi Revolusi Industri 4.0 yang sudah tersebar di masyarakat dunia dari pusat kota sampai desa, misalnya melalui bentuk handphone. Ini sangat penting jika bersamaan dengan kompetensi bahasa Inggris misalnya dalam kompetensi tutur dan kemajuan sebuah lingkungan dalam bentuk Pendidikan Agama Islam bagi masyarakat. Dua tujuan PkM di PPM berdasarkan pada dua rumusan masalah Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (RM PkM) ini yaitu Proses pelaksanaan Pendampingan dan Pelatihan Kompetensi Tutur Bahasa Inggris dan Mempromosikan Artificial Intelligence sebagai Media dalam Pembelajaran Kursus Bahasa Inggris  di Pondok Pesantren Mitra PkM. Sasaran hanya sekitar 15 peserta/santri dari group ke 2 dan tahapan ke 2. Proses dilakukan melalui ESP Based Approach (Kebutuhan Pembelajar) dengan instrument observasi, pertanyaan tertutup dan interview dalam bentuk perbincangan. Sebelumnya kegiatan kursus tidak bisa terpenuhi semua kelompok peserta (SD, SMP, SMA dan UMUM). Setelah dilakukan pengkajian dan analisis data yang diperoleh ditemukan kemajuan. Semua peserta tertampung. Kegiatan dilakukan di madrasah utama PPM. RM-1 memiliki signifikansi dengan RM-2. Bahan ajar dipersiapkan dengan bahan utama berceritra (storytelling) bersamaan dengan konsep linguistik bilingualism dan aplikasi teknologi artificial intelligent WhatsApp, Youtube, Google Translate dan Tophonetics. Proses kegiatan berjalan baik dengan kefasihan tutur (RM-1) tercapai baik. Kompetensi digital (RM-2/tahap promoting AI/TI) tercapai melalui proses pembimbingan belajar tiap pertemuan. Keduanya memiliki kendala wajar sehingga masih belum memuaskan sehubungan durasi pertemuan hanya 60 menit dalam satu kali pertemuan dalam satu minggu. Harapan sebagai saran adanya tindak lanjut untuk jenis kegiatan PkM ini.
