Abstract

Background: About 4 billion cases of toddler diarrhea occur worldwide each year. As many as 70% of toddler deaths in the world were caused by diarrheal infections. This study was intended to analyze the relationship of health services factors on the prevalence of diarrhea of infants in Indonesia. Methods: Ecological analysis was conducted using secondary data from the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia report in 2018. All provinces were taken as samples. Apart from prevalence of children under five with diarrhea, 4 other variables analyzed as independent variables were, the availability of health workers, the coverage of diarrhea services and the coverage of oralit services to the patients, the coverage of zinc services to the patients, and the poverty factors in each provinces. Data were analyzed using cross-tabulation and spearman test. Results: The results show from 34 provinces, the highest prevalence of toddlers is in the Papua Province. The results showed that the higher the percentage of poor people in the province, the higher the prevalence of diarrhea in toddlers (r=0.363). While the low availability of health resources, coverage of oralit use, and coverage of zinc use in patients were mostly occurring in provinces that had a high prevalence of toddler diarrhea. This means that there was an inverse relationship between the availability of health resources (r=-0.430), the coverage of oralit use (r=-0.149) and the coverage of zinc use in patients (r=-0.013) with the prevalence of diarrhea in toddlers. Conclusion: It was concluded that according to bivariate analysis on the prevalence of diarrhea of toddlers showed that increasing availability of health resources in the provinces can help to reduce the prevalence of toddlers by assuming other variables remain.

Abstract

Background: In general, the entire population is vulnerable to COVID-19, but epidemiological research shows that the elderly and people with comorbid are more susceptible to COVID-19 and has a high risk of experiencing poor outcomes and death if infected with COVID-19. Purpose: This study aims to identify comorbidities with a high risk of death common among COVID-19 patients in China and the United States to provide learning for Indonesia in COVID-19 management. Methods: The literature review method was done by searching relevant articles through Google Scholar and ScienceDirect. Inclusion criteria are all original research and case series containing epidemiological information and comorbidities in COVID-19 patients aged >19 years with full text and open access. Exclusion criteria are study COVID-19 concerning children and adolescents (≤19 years) and study without comorbidities information. There is no language selection because all articles found are in English. Results: There are eight articles suitable for the criteria. Four articles were research conducted in China, and four articles were done in the United States. The articles use case series, cohort, and cross-sectional methods. Conclusion: Common comorbidities among COVID-19 patients are hypertension, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease in China and the United States. A more significant number of comorbidities also correlated with a higher risk of death.

Abstract

Background: CLABSI accounts for 70% of all hospitalized bloodstream infections, especially in premature infants. CLABSI in neonates can compromise the immune system and future quality of life. Purpose: This study aims to identify determinant factors associated with CLABSI in neonates.  Methods: This research was a scoping review study of three international databases namely Science Direct, PubMed, and ProQuest from January 2021-April 2024. Keyword selection refers to PCC (Populations, Concepts, Categories), with the keywords used "factor" AND "associated" AND "CLABSI" AND ("neonate" OR "newborn") AND "hospital." The selection process is depicted with PRISMA-ScR. Results: A total of 14 articles met the criteria and objectives of the study. The articles obtained        represented   all continents, which were conducted in the Americas (29%), Europe (29%), Asia (29%), and Africa (13%). Risk factors for CLABSI in neonates are grouped into two, namely intrinsic and extrinsic factors. Prevention of CLABSI in neonates can be done by modifying extrinsic factors, namely with proper aseptic technique, supervision, and management strategies. Conclusion: The determinant factors of CLABSI in neonates include intrinsic factors (gestational age of <27 weeks or preterm, comorbidities, being born by cesarean section, low birth weight, being previously treated with antibiotics, and having underlying surgical conditions) and extrinsic factors (the type of catheter, the amount of catheter lumen, long duration of insertion, insertion location at the femoral and internal-jugular access site, parenteral nutrition, and large microbial colonization at the insertion site).

Abstract

Filariasis disease is caused by filarial worms and transmitted by mosquitoes. Filariasis lymphedema is considered scary because it can cause permanent body defects that are aesthetically detrimental and reduce patient mobility. In addition, this disability also causes psychological and social problems for patients. The objective is to conduct a literature review of filarial lymphedema patients' physical, psychological, and social aspects. Methods: A literature review was conducted from the digital database of Pubmed, BMC, PLOS neglected tropical diseases, SAGE journal, and Google Scholar published in English between 2000 until march 2023. The author used the terms “physical” AND “psychological” OR “psychosocial” AND “social” AND “filarial lymphedema”. And the last step was all articles were reviewed, articles under review were original research design, cross-sectional studies, cohort studies, descriptive studies, quantitative, and qualitative studies. Results: The nine papers that made up the literature review were released in the years 2005 through 2023. The majority of research demonstrated that physical disabilities resulting from lymphatic filariasis induce reduced physical function in patients. Additionally, seven studies discovered that individuals with lymphatic filariasis experienced depression as a result of their physical limitations, social isolation brought on by stigma, sleep issues, anxiety, marital issues, and financial difficulties.. This literature review found that filarial lymphedema can affect the physical and social aspects of the patients and gradually can affect the mental health of patients. morbidity management program of filarial lymphedema needs to be improv and promote so it can reduce stigma, psychology, the social and physical burden due to lymphedema filariasis
