Abstract

The prevalence of mental health disorders in Indonesia from the 2018 Basic Health Research data shows anxiety disorders of 9.8%, depression of 6%. Whereas, in 2022 from I-NAMHS data, the value increased 26.7% for anxiety disorders and total mental disorders of 34.9%, especially among adolescents and students. This study aims to explore the eating behavior and mental health status of college students in Indonesia. This study employed a quantitative descriptive research design with a cross-sectional approach. The inclusion criteria for this study included college students in Indonesia from diploma/S1/S2 programs aged 16-30 years. The exclusion criteria for the study were research respondents who were diagnosed by a doctor with chronic diseases such as diabetes, kidney failure, heart disease, stroke, mental or psychiatric disorders. Quantitative research data collection used online questionnaires (DASS-21 and EBPQ) which were distributed to respondents using social media platforms. The sample size of the study was 549 people. The sample selection used the Convenience Sampling method. Data were analyzed using STATA. The study showed that 549 respondents from 32 provinces in Indonesia; 68 (12.39%) people experienced depression; 166 (30.24%) people experienced anxiety, and 37 (6.74%) people experienced stress. Stress, anxiety, and depression showed a significant relationship to emotional eating behavior, fast food planning, and skipping meals (p<0.05). This study can provide a deeper understanding of stress, anxiety, and depression that can affect eating behavior, so that it can be the basis for public education and interventions for healthier eating patterns to improve mental and physical health.

Abstract

This study was designed to explore the facilitators and barriers of breastfeeding practices among mothers in a selected urban population in Malaysia. This study reports the qualitative findings from a larger study that was conducted in two health clinics in Selangor, Malaysia. Ten mothers were recruited and an in-depth interview using grounded theory approach was used to obtain information. Interviews were transcribed and was manually arranged into codes and themes using thematic analysis. Facilitators to breastfeeding in this population were maternal factors (knowledge of breastfeeding, intention to breastfeed, perceived benefits of breastfeeding), social support and health care provider. Barriers to breastfeeding were insufficiency of breastmilk, employment and stigma of public breastfeeding. The findings of this study suggest that intervention to improve breastfeeding uptake should aim on increasing knowledge of mothers on coping with issues related to breastfeeding difficulties such as how to increase or sustain milk production and increasing awareness of employers and public on supporting breastfeeding mothers.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop and determine the content and face validation of eHealth website that can function as a one-stop information center for parents, caregivers, teachers, and healthcare professionals on early childhood nutrition. This study was divided into two phases. Phase 1 involved website development and was executed in three steps: Step 1: Need Assessment, Step 2: Design Arrangement, and Step 3: Website Construction. Phase 2 involved website validation, which included content validation by six professionals in nutrition/dietetics and early childhood education fields and face validation by six professionals and 50 target users, including parents, caregivers, nursery or preschool teachers, and students. The content validation obtained a score of 1.00. The face validation by professionals exceeds the minimum value of 80% except for the Quality of Information. In comparison, face validation by the users exceeds 80% except for Subjective Quality. Krippendorff’s Alpha for each validation was below 0.66. In conclusion, the content validation of the website indicated high agreement, while the face validation indicated sufficient by the professionals and target users. The website will be a good start for intervening in long-term nutrition-related issues such as non-communicable diseases and obesity, as eating habits and food choices from young affect future health outcomes.
