Abstract

Abstract

Various natural ingredients have been formulated as moisturizers in cosmetics, both from natural and animal raw material, especially Centella asiatica (L.) Urb. Extract and snail mucus (Achatina fulica). However, there is only a little research to determine the development of both material in one cosmetic preparation, namely sheet mask. The mask sleeve, which is a sheet mask applicator, will dry longer than other masks, therefore the penetration shown as a moisturizer is better. Gelling agents (such as hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (HPMC)) and humectants (such as glycerinee) are important ingredients in sheet masks. This research aims to optimization HPMC and glycerine in a sheet masks Centella asiatica and snail mucus. Optimization of HPMC and glycerine with a ratio of 0.3–3% HPMC and glycerine was carried out using the Design Expert 10 with Simplex Lattice Design method. The responses from optimization of the preparation were pH, viscosity, absorption power and skin moisture. The optimum formula was obtained at a concentration of 0.589% HPMC and 2.711% glycerine with pH of 5.64 ±0.02; viscosity of 4581.8± 59.80 cPs, absorption power in scale of 4.6+0,55 , and skin moisture of 32.09%+3.21. The irritation test has a score of 0 or does not cause irritation.

Abstract

Skin aging can occur if endogenous antioxidants are not sufficient to ward off radical compounds and external antioxidant intake is needed. One plant that contains antioxidants is lotus root (Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn.) and has the potential to be developed into nutraceutical products, namely edible film strips. This research aims to develop edible film strips from ethanol extract of lotus roots as anti-aging by optimizing polymer and plasticizer components, namely HPMC and sorbitol using the Simplex Lattice Design method from Design Expert 13.0 software. The antioxidant activity of the preparation was tested using the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl method. Phytochemical screening results showed that the extract contained polyphenols, tannins, flavonoids and saponins. The predicted optimal formula for edible lotus root extract has a HPMC-Sorbitol composition ratio of 2:10 with a desirability value of 0.737. Observation results show that the optimum formula preparation has a thickness of 0.32 mm; pH 3.22; drying shrinkage 6.91%; absorption capacity 49.73%; and disintegration time 31.56 seconds. This value is not significantly different from the physical characteristic value predicted by the software (Sig. 2-tailed > 0.05). The potential anti-aging activity which is identical to the antioxidant activity of the optimum formula is shown by obtaining an IC50 value of 58.6174 ppm which is included in the strong antioxidant group. This is thought to be attributed to the presence of tannin and flavonoid polyphenol compounds in the lotus root extract, where these compounds have hydroxy groups which have been proven to be able to capture free radicals.

Abstract

Chrysanthemum plants do need enough water, but they can't withstand heavy rain. Several times, bad weather, such as strong winds, causes chrysanthemum farmers to suffer losses because about 90% of chrysanthemums are usually used for event decorations. With the development of food processing technology, chrysanthemums are made into jam with natural sweeteners (Stevia). This encourages our service group to hold counseling and training on chrysanthemum flower processing through the Sido Makmur Farmer Women Group Bandungan. This activity was attended by 20 participants and included product making and counseling about chrysanthemums as antioxidants in jelly food preparations, which can increase the selling value. The service team introduced the method of making natural sweeteners from stevia leaves and used them in the product "Selly Sante" directly to the cadre group. From this activity, the results of the pre-test and post-test showed that as many as 80% of participants experienced an increase in understanding
