Abstract

The stereotype of Islam as an extremist religion is often associated with adherence in a good-looking character to the practices of ritual piety. This study aims to discuss the Hadith that allegedly refers to the presence of good-looking phenomenon from the prophetic period. The study uses a descriptive qualitative research design which relates to the basis of critical analysis through an interdisciplinary approach combining isnād-cum-matn and socio-religious phenomenology. The results indicate that the Hadith good-looking is ṣaḥīḥ (authentic) based on the review of its sanad transmission and examination on its matn. The good-looking trait is attributable to the emptiness of morality in the practice of Islamic spirituality. This vacuity is induced by religious insights focused solely on theological and normative viewpoints. The solution is to spread moral teaching and moderate religious values proactively through different methods and techniques, such as virtual proselytizing in social media.

Abstract

Political secularization refers to a set of ideas regarded as instrumental in driving radical changes to the traditional order and the patterns of interaction between the state and religion. What was once regulated by religious-political systems has transformed into a non-sacred, pluralistic interaction, where religious dogmas previously deemed sacred have become profane. This study examines how Islam has adapted to modernization and political secularization in Indonesia. Using a descriptive qualitative research approach, it employs sociological analysis and political theory to explore this adaptation process. The findings reveal that Islam in Indonesia responds to modernization and political secularization in three distinct ways: Integration: Islam emerges as an ideological movement, using Islamic principles as central rhetoric for political activism. Acculturation: Islam positions itself as a cultural movement, maintaining political influence through cultural engagement. Agency-structuring: Islam acts both as a dialogue partner with political power and as an active agent shaping social and political structures.

Abstract

Before the arrival of the shahīh al-Bukhārī and shahīh Muslim, the Muslim people were more familiar with the kitab al-Muwaththa Imam Mālik. Kitab al-Muwaththa’ is a book that contains the Hadith and fiqh of the Mālic imam school. The Kitab al-Muwaththa’ is known as a book that contains many mursal hadiths. Many scholars after the death of imam Mālik tried to give commentary to the kitab al-Muwaththa’ according to their respective scientific backgrounds. Some give commentary in terms of hadith science, some give commentary from fiqh, and some try to propose hadiths in it that are considered unconnected. One of the hadith scholars who took part in giving syarah to this book was Syekh Muhammad Zakariyyā al-Kāndahlawiyy (1315-1402H/1898-1982). He is a 20th-century hadith scholar who is often a reference for Muslim scholars. One of his works that many Muslim scholars study is Awjaz al-Masālik Ilā Muwaththa' Mālik which is the syarah of the kitab al-Muwathta’. This study discusses the method of Muhammad Zakariyyā al-Kāndahlawiyy when interacting with hadiths that are considered mursal. This study is a literature study and uses a document analysis method with the help of ATLAS.ti software version 9.1.5.0. The results of this Study found that when Muhammad Zakariyyā al-Kāndahlawiyy interacted with the mursal hadith in the book of Awjaz al-Masālik Ilā Muwaththa' Mālik, he mentioned the status of the hadith if mursal, mentioned the cause of mursal, mentioned the reinforcing hadith of mursal hadith; if there is no reinforcement in other hadith books then he put fatwa the opinion of scholars. In general, he combines the methods of hadith scholars and fiqh scholars so that the hadiths that originally had mursal status can be used in the hadith and its fiqh.

Abstract

Khutbah is a lecture or speech delivered by a Khatib before Friday prayers, which is one form of Islamic preaching. The Khutbah material delivered by the Khatib typically responds to or addresses issues that are currently being discussed. This paper aims to examine the hadith in the Khutbah material delivered by Indonesian and Malaysian Khatib in responding to issues that are presently discussed. This research employs a qualitative comparative study model. The results of the study show that the hadith quoted by Khatib in Khutbah material in Indonesia and Malaysia vary, due to differences in issues. However, in general, the themes raised are similar, primarily concerning politics, socio-humanity, the environment, violence in the name of religion, and tolerance. This study also found differences in the freedom of preachers in the two countries. Servants in Indonesia have the freedom to create their own Khutbah scripts, while Malaysian Khatib must follow the official government script.
