Abstract

Abstract

Acne is a skin infection disease, one of which is caused by bacteria. Treatment with antibiotics can cause resistance, so it is needed alternative treatment of natural ingredients and tomatoes (Solanum lycopersicum L.) is one of the natural ingredients that contain alkaloid compounds, flavonoids, saponins and tannins that are known to have an antibacterial effect. The purpose of this study was to find out the antibacterial activity of tomato extract against the growth of Propionibacterium acnes bacteria. Tomato fruit extract is divided into 3 concentration series (20%, 40% and 60%). Testing the taste of Propionibacterium acnes using diffusion method (Kirby and Bauer diffusion) by disc diffusion. Clindamycin is used as a positive control, and Aquadest as a negative control. The results of the study showed that the concentration of inhibition zone was 20% with an average of 1.08 mm, a concentration of 40% with an average of 3.74 mm, a concentration of 60% with an average of 5.14 mm, and clindamycin (positive control) with an averageof 9.15 mm and test data Kruskall-wallis obtained a value of 0.00 less than 0.05, it can be concluded that tomato fruit extract (Solanum lycopersicum L.) can inhibit the growth of Propionibacterium acnes bacteria with a significant difference andit is known that tomato fruit extract (Solanum lycopersicum L.) concentration of 60 % the most influential in inhibiting the growth of Propionibacterium acnes bacteria. Keywords : Acne, Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.), Propionibacterium acnes, Antibacteria

Abstract

Henslowia frutescens is a semi-parasitic plant, although considered harmful, it has medicinal and cosmetic potential. This plant has secondary metabolite compounds, namely phenolic compounds, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and steroids which have high antioxidant activity. The purpose of this study was to determine the sunscreen activity of the ethanol extract of Henslowia frutescens based on the in vitro SPF (Sun Protecting Factor) value and to determine its antioxidant activity. The research stages included sampling, sampling, maceration extraction with 95% ethanol, yield calculation, phytochemical screening, sunscreen activity test based on SPF value, and antioxidant activity test. Data analysis was carried out descriptively based on the measurement results processed according to the calculation formula. The results showed that the sunscreen activity of the ethanol extract of Henslowia frutescens based on the in vitro SPF value was 14.57 - 25.20 with moderate protection category. The antioxidant activity of the ethanol extract of Henslowia frutescens showed a very strong category with an IC value of 22.82 ± 1.33.

Abstract

Lime contains flavonoids which have antioxidant properties by inhibiting free radicals. Meanwhile, milkfish scales contain 0,3% collagen which can be used as anti-aging for skin. Bot function as skon care products with an alternative formulation into a peel off gel mask. The aim of this research is to determine whether a combination of milkfish scale powder and lime peel can be formulated into a peel off gel mask. The method used is an experimental method by immersion extraction in 70% ethanol solvent. The formulation of milkfish scales is 1%, 3%, and 5%. Lime extract uses 0,6%; 1,2%; and 1,8%. Evaluation of physical quality in accordance with SNI masks 16-6070-1999. The results showed that the three formulations were not homogeneous due to the presence of insoluble fish scale powder, there was no changes in the organoleptic test parameters, the pH test range (4 -6), the test range spreadability of (3,7 – 7,5 cm), dry time (15 minutes), and viscosity test (1189 mPa.S-3598 mPa.S). The conclusion of this research is that lime peel and milkfish scales can be formulated as active ingredients for peel off gel masks and the physical quality test of peel off gel mask preparations meet the requirements.
