Abstract

Hookworms, consisting of Ancylostoma duodenale and Necator americanus, are intestinal nematodes that can cause Necatoriasis and Ancylostomiasis. Worm eggs found in the soil hatch into Rhabditiform larvae, which then develop into Filariform infective larvae. These larvae can penetrate the skin, especially through the heels of the feet, when a person works barefoot. Once inside the body, the larvae follow the bloodstream to the heart and lungs, then are swallowed and enter the small intestine, where they develop into adult worms and produce eggs that are expelled with the feces during defecation. Infection with these worms can cause anemia as the worms suck blood from their host. This study was conducted among 40 oil palm plantation workers in Cinta Damai Village, Labusel. The main risk factors were low awareness of personal and environmental hygiene, the habit of defecating in any place, rarely using footwear while working, and the use of feces as fertilizer. Fecal examination was conducted using the concentration method with Kato solution. The results showed that 1 person (2.5%) was infected with Hookworm eggs, 4 people (10%) were infected with Ascaris lumbricoides eggs, and 3 people (7.5%) were infected with Trichuris trichiura eggs. In addition, 3 people (7.5%) were found to have multiple infections. These results show that helminth infection is still a health problem among oil palm plantation workers, so better education and prevention efforts are needed.

Abstract

Acid fast bacteria (AFB) are cell walls containing complex lipids so that in Ziehl-Neelsen staining they can bind dyes because they are not washed off by 3% HCl Alcohol (Alcoholic Acid). One of the host factors in pulmonary tuberculosis is smoking habits and exposure. Smoking habits will damage the defense mechanism of the lungs, which causes the lungs to be more easily infected with tuberculosis germs. The purpose of this study was to determine the results of analysis of acid-fast bacteria in the sputum of active smokers. The research method used was descriptive cross-sectional by examining acid-fast bacteria in the sputum of active smokers suspected of having pulmonary tuberculosis by microscopic examination of sputum (direct smear smear) using the Ziehl-Neelsen staining method. smear examination with Ziehl-Neelsen staining in patients with tuberculosis at Putri Hijau Hospital in 2022, totaling 20 samples, found 4 positive results and 16 samples with negative results.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is a disease caused by mycobacterium tuberculosis. TB can be transmitted to onther through Saliva when someone sneezes or coughs, then through breathing. This disease is difficult to control worldwide. TB bacteria move from the lungs and spread through the blood to other parts of the body. These diseases damage bones, damage the liver, kidneys, heart and other organs, weaken the immune system, cause loss of consciousness, and if left untreated can result in death. The researhc method used in this study is descriptive, which aims to determine the Leukocyte Description in Pulmonary Tuberculosis patients. This study uses an autohematology analyzer to examine the number of leukocyte cells. This study was conducted at Bunda Thamrin Hospital Medan from May To Juni 2024 where the samples used were 15 blood samples from pulmonary tuberculosis patients. The population in this study were all patients who were clinically diagnosed with tuberculosis by doctors who were hospitalized at Bunda Thamrin Hospital, Medan, in May- June 2024 to conduct tuberculosis examinations totaling 15 people. The sampel in this study used the total sampling technique. The results of the examination found that patients wit decreased white blood cell counts (leukopenia) were 3 people (20%), while 6 patients experience d increased leukocytes (leukocytosis) (40%), and 6 people had normal leukocytes (40%) from 15 blood samples of pulmonary tuberkulosis patients. It is hoped that further research Will increase the sample to obtain a more optimal picture of leukocytes results.

Abstract

Minyak goreng adalah Minyak nabati yang telah dimurnikan dan dapat di gunakan sebagai bahan pangan atau untuk menggoreng makanan. Minyak goreng berfungsi sebagai pengantar panas, penambah nilai gizi dan penambah nilai kalori bahan pangan. Kerusakan minyak goreng ditandai dengan terjadinya perubahan bau atau flavor dalam minyak yaitu berupa bau tengik yang disebabkan oleh karena penggunaan minyak goreng secara berulang. Hal ini ditandai dengan bau, warna dan rasa dari minyak goreng. Tujuan penelitian adalah mengetahui peningkatan angka peroksida pada minyak goreng terhadap penggorengan sebelum dan 3 kali penggorengan tempe. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada minyak goreng yang dijual disekitar Jl.Kapten Muslim Medan dan diuji di Laboratorium Biologi Universtas Sari Mutiara Indonesia, dengan menggunakan metode iodometri yang dilakasanakan bulan November 2022. Dari peneltian yang dilakukan pada empat sampel minyak goreng, dari keempat sampel sebelum penggorengan diketahui bilangan peroksidanya berkisar antara 1,5929 – 3,5907 meq/kg, terjadi peningkatan bilangan peroksida pada penggorengan I adalah sebesar 2,872 – 6,1482 meq/kg, penggorengan II sebesar 5,1928 – 9,2822 meq/kg, penggorengan III sebesar 8,2859 – 12,987 meq/ kg. Dari hasil penelitian 4 sampel, terdapat satu sampel yang tidak memenuhi syarat mutu minyak goreng sesuai dengan SNI-3741- 2013 yaitu sampel D sebesar 12,987 meq/kg pada penggorengan yang ke III.
