Abstract

The use of karaoke songs as an instrument to learn English pronunciation is considered to be an enjoyable learning method especially to enhance English as Foreign Language (EFL) students' pronunciation skills. In discourse activities, unclear pronunciation might affect the interpretation among peers which might lead to misunderstanding or miscommunication. Because the world is becoming more global, EFL college students as future generations will need to improve their English pronunciation to participate in future international meetings. As Smith (2003) stated, native speakers, tended to be concerned about pronunciation when having conversations with non-native speakers. To minimize misinterpretation, English pronunciation should be given higher attention in listening and speaking instruction. This study surveyed 30 EFL students' experience of learning pronunciation by utilizing a karaoke app, more specifically after listening to an English song and singing via 'Smule-Sing!' karaoke app. This study explained that the listening and singing activities through 'Smule-Sing!' karaoke app assisted EFL learners to produce clear pronunciation devices including word stress, rhythm, intonation, and sounds. However, there are some limitations regarding melody rate and unfamiliarity with the sounds which need to have further research. This study implies the English language and pedagogy to promote and facilitate autonomous learning strategy in EFL students' learning process.

Abstract

Penerapan Glamping camp sebagai salah satu inovasi pariwisata yang berkelanjutan sudah sewajarnya dilakukan di Provinsi Sumatera Utara. Kegiatan Sosialisasi Glamping camp diperlukan untuk menunjang pariwisata berkelanjutan. Kegiatan ini dilakukan di Sapo Juma Guest House yang terletak di Desa Tongging Kab. Karo dan dihadiri oleh karyawan dan pihak manajemen. Dalam kegiatan ini diadakan pengenalan yang menekankan pada apa, mengapa, dan bagaimana jika glamping camp diterapkan pada hotel yang sekaligus merupakan obyek pariwisata tersebut. Adapun tahapan metode yang digunakan dalam melakukan kegiatan ini adalah persiapan, perencanaan dan pelaksanaan yang dibantu dengan metode yang lebih sederhana, yaitu penyampaian materi, kuis dan diskusi. Hasil yang didapati dari kegiatan tersebut adalah sekitar 92% peserta mengerti definisi glamping camp, sejarah glamping camp serta bagaimana perkembangan bisnis glamping camp di Indonesia. Kemudian, 94% peserta memahami standar perangkat glamping camp dan perbedaan perangkat yang diterapkan pada traditional camping. Kemudian, sekitar 93% peserta dapat mengerti kriteria fasilitas glamping camp yang diperlukan serta konsep atraksi glamping camp sesuai dengan karateristik alam di beberapa daerah di Indonesia. Kesimpulan yang diperoleh dari kegiatan sosialisasi tersebut adalah penerapan glamping camp dapat memaksimalkan potensi yang dimiliki oleh Sapo Juma Guest House. Penerapan glamping camp juga dapat menjadi atraksi wisata yang dapat menawarkan solusi pariwisata berkelanjutan yang ramah lingkungan

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilaksakan agar kiranya sumber daya manusia yang ada di kantor keluaran durian kecamatan medan timur ini dapat memanfaatkan teknologi komputer dalam pembuatan dokumen, sehingga tidak ada lagi data atau dokumen dilakukan secara manual atau tulis tangan,dan membuat data/dokumen yang terpusat di dalam satu komputer untuk menghindari kehilangan dokumen. Maka kami sebagia dosen dalam menjalankan tri dharma perguruan tinggi adalah salah satunya pengabdian kepada masyarakt, sehingga masyarakat juga dapat merasakan manfaat kehadiran dari kampus Politeknik Unggulan Cipta Mandiri Medan. Maka dari itu kami memberikan bimbingan atau berupa traning kepada kantor kelurahan durian kecamatan medan timur.

Abstract

The global nature of technology and information exchange has made English proficiency an essential skill for students in technical fields, including Computer Engineering. This study investigates the correlation between English language proficiency and academic performance, particularly coding skills, among Computer Engineering students. The research aims to determine whether a higher command of English contributes to better understanding and application of coding concepts, leading to improved academic outcomes. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, this study collects data from both language proficiency assessments and academic performance records, with qualitative insights gathered from student interviews and coding task observations. The findings highlight that English proficiency, especially in technical vocabulary and comprehension, has a positive influence on coding abilities and overall academic success. This research underscores the importance of integrating English language development within technical curricula to enhance students' competency in globalized technical environments.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of the integration of digital literacy, the use of digital wallets, and English language proficiency on the marketing effectiveness of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). The focus of the research is directed toward examining how these three factors interact in enhancing market reach, promotional efficiency, and the competitiveness of MSMEs in the digital era. Based on the survey results, it was found that the digital marketing strategies implemented have not yet produced optimal outcomes. The promotional activities remain passive, unstructured, and have not had a significant impact on increasing sales. This low level of marketing effectiveness is attributed to the absence of consistent promotional strategies, limited understanding of branding concepts, and the underutilization of analytical features and customer review tools. Therefore, the researchers developed training programs delivered through a website and disseminated them to participating MSMEs. The research findings indicate that all three types of website-based training—digital literacy, the use of digital wallets, and English language skills—have a positive effect on improving the marketing effectiveness of MSMEs. Digital literacy enhances promotional capabilities, digital wallets facilitate transaction convenience, and English language skills expand market reach. The integration of these three components through website-based training serves as an effective strategy for improving the competitiveness and marketing performance of MSMEs in the digital economy era.

Abstract

Death Note is one of popular manga (comic) and anime series in Japan. This comic series was created by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata. The main character, Light Yagami, is a high school student who discovers a black supernatural notebook. It simply titled “Death Note”. The death note grants user the ability to kill someone with the knowledge of the victim’s name and face by writing the victim's name while remembering his or her face. The series centers around Light Yagami’s attempt to create and rule a world “cleansed of evil” as a “God” using the death note. Death Note is full of symbolism from Roman overtones to literary masterpieces (Machbeth, Hamlet and Othello). Same with Macbeth, Light Yagami’s tragic flaw is also caused by his obsession with power. The power of the death note awakens great ambisions and leads him to murder and insanity protect what he has claimed. He should face a horrible death that is fitting to the way he lives. This is the basic premise of William Shakespeare’s tragedy and it is also the heart of Death Note. Furthermore, the main aim of this paper was to acknowledge to the readers the elements of Shakespearean tragedy in the anime Death Note.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technology has significantly transformed how individuals interact, make decisions, and engage with ethical issues, particularly within technology-driven environments. In educational settings, digital media has been widely utilized to support English language learning; however, its implementation has largely emphasized linguistic competence, often overlooking the development of students’ ethical awareness. Despite the growing integration of digital tools in English language teaching, their potential role in fostering ethical reasoning remains insufficiently explored, especially among students in computer-related disciplines. This gap underscores the need for a more integrative pedagogical approach that connects language acquisition with critical ethical reflection. This study aims to investigate how digital ethics is represented through the character Light Yagami in the anime Death Note and to examine its potential as a pedagogical resource in English language teaching. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, the study applies literary analysis, digital ethics frameworks, and principles of English for Specific Purposes (ESP). The findings indicate that the character embodies central ethical issues such as power, justice, and responsibility, while illustrating how the misuse of authority can result in significant moral consequences. Furthermore, the analysis demonstrates that anime narratives can serve as an effective medium for engaging students with complex ethical dilemmas in technology-oriented contexts. The use of anime also provides meaningful and relatable contexts that enhance language comprehension and stimulate critical thinking. This study contributes to the intersection of digital ethics and ESP by positioning anime as an innovative pedagogical tool for promoting ethical engagement in English language learning.
