Abstract

At the beginning of 2008, the amount of cluster industry batik in Solo start to grew, with so many innovations, big market (co1nsumers), low cost and high progit margin. The condition is so much different compare to the late 1980. Thus, with agent-based simulation for industrial cluster, the aims of the research are to understand what mechanism can describe the formation of cluster industry batik in Solo, and propose strategies to stimulate formation of cluster industry. There are three agents modeled in the simulation; consumer, produce, and supplier. Each agent has their own attributes and decision role. As result, the simulation can describe that industrial cluster is formed as bottom-up interaction between agents with interdependency decision-making. In the long term, only producer agent that agglomerate with other industry can survive and the average wealth of each agent will increase along with the density cluster of certain industrial cluster. Several policies can be implemented to stimulate the industrial cluster formation are creating join-showroom, build waste-water treatment for several industries, renovate the facilities (access) to the cluster industries. Keywords:service science, cluster industry, agent-based simulation, cluster industry batik Solo

Abstract

Citarum was a clean river which local people enjoyed fishing and recreation, however now its condition has already changed totally. Currently, the river can not provide its social services, such as clean water, electricity, fishing, tourisms, transportation, and public recreation. In rainy season, the color of river is brown because it contains mud from bald lands erosion along the river. In dry season, the color of river has changed to black and full of household wastes. In spite of many seminars were held, classical problems always arise. There are floods in rainy season but changes drastically to drought in dry season. There are some factors which cause the problem, i.e. illegal lodging and the population exploading in upper stream, population from industries in down stream, etc. this paper tries to see the Citarum problem from a different point of view, and starts from the belief that if stakeholders (or agents) in the Citarum problem collaborate to solve the problem, then Citarum river will be better and better. This paper analyzes negotiation process among the agents, and tries to describe how the negotiation process can end with collaboration. In the first step, drama theory framework is applied to model the negotiation process. Then, we simulate model by using SOARS (Spot Oriented Agent Role Similator). Finally, simulation results show that emotion of agents has important role to encourage collaboration; that is, the more the agents who have positive emotion (or tend to compromise), the less the number of impediments (or dilemma) to achieve collaboration. Keywords: quality policy, Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), higher education

Abstract

In analyzing confrontation, academic studies in the field of International Relation are highly associated with conventional narrative approaches. Unfortunately, exclusive and excessive use of an approach in the field may hinder the academic development in the field. Earlier studies show that cross-fertilization internal and external approaches can promote scientific progress in the field. This study aims to promote the use of confrontation analysis, an analysis tool that is considered as external to the field of international relations. There are some studies in the field of international relations that utilize confrontation analysis in conflict modelling. Nonetheless, these studies are limited only to the cases of western hemisphere. This study focuses on the implementation of confrontation analysis in the conflict in East Asia region, i.e. Chinese civil war and Korean war. These cases are selected due to the abundant available information on these conflicts and the knowledge on these conflicts has matured. This study shows that confrontation analysis is able to explain the increase of escalation and its downturn during the conflict.
