Abstract

This study was Classroom Action Research. It was conducted based on an internship of teaching practice in SMA Kristen Kalam Kudus Selatpanjang. It involved 25 students of grade 10 science class. The study aimed to identify the effectiveness of using Tiktok in improving students’ speaking skills. The research was organized step by steps such as planning, implementing, observation and reflection. The research instruments were observation, pre-test, and post-test. First, the students in the class were observed during learning English subjects, and then the pre-test and post-test were implemented to determine the students’ speaking skill improvement. The rubric was designed according to the aspect of speaking skills to assess the students’ skills. The results of the post-test showed that the students’ scores rapidly increased and were better than their pre-test. The average score for the pre-test was 2.51 points. After implementing TikTok in the test, the average score for the post-test was 4.65 points. Therefore, the implementation of TikTok proved it was effective to develop students’ speaking skills. In conclusion, the TikTok application engaged the students to enjoy the learning especially in improving their speaking skills. Students were free to express their ideas and creativity while making the content.

Abstract

The 21st-century educational landscape, shaped by technology and diverse student needs, emphasizes digital literacy, personalized learning, and innovative teaching. TikTok's role in enhancing English skills has been explored, showing positive impacts on proficiency and pronunciation. This study investigates TikTok's influence on English learning motivation among students, using a mixed-method approach at SMK Negeri 2 Batam. Classroom observations, questionnaires, and interviews with students and teachers form the data collection methods. Analysis involves defining objectives, data cleaning, selecting appropriate techniques, and drawing conclusions. The study aims to provide insights into leveraging technology for language learning, emphasizing the need for adaptable education to meet contemporary learners' demands.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate how EFL teachers decide on and adapt teaching strategies for young learners in ELT classrooms and explore strategies teachers use to encourage independent language learning. The research was conducted as a case study in an academic English course in Batam and involved three experienced EFL teachers. Data collection methods included observation checklists, semi-structured interviews, and analysis of lesson plans. Descriptive analysis was applied to observation checklists and document reviews, while thematic analysis was used for interview data. The findings underscore the importance of flexible teaching methods that emphasize student engagement and align instructional activities with learning goals. They highlight the necessity of customizing teaching strategies to students' backgrounds and interests and efficiently utilizing classroom resources to promote active learning and enhance educational outcomes in EFL contexts, thereby fostering autonomous learning among students. In conclusion, effective EFL teaching involves integrating student engagement, active learning strategies, customized teaching approaches, and adequate classroom resources. The implications stress the importance of a holistic approach to EFL learning that prioritizes student engagement, active and independent learning, effective technology use, and continuous professional development for EFL teachers

Abstract

Bahasa Inggris adalah salah satu bahasa yang paling dikenal di dunia. Sebagai salah satu bahasa yang paling banyak digunakan di dunia, orang-orang mulai belajar bahasa Inggris di semua tingkatan. Namun, beberapa orang tidak beruntung dan tidak mendapatkan kesempatan untuk belajar bahasa Inggris secara resmi, itu sebabnya layanan masyarakat ini dilakukan. Dengan tim yang terdiri dari 4 orang, kami melakukan pengabdian masyarakat dengan mengajarkan Bahasa Inggris yang menyenangkan kepada anak-anak dari Panti Asuhan Vistos Kasih Ikhlas. Anak-anak bersenang-senang ketika belajar bahasa Inggris, sementara mereka juga fokus pada subjek. Kami mengajar mereka dengan berbagai metode yang menyenangkan seperti menggunakan permainan, menyanyi, teka-teki, dll. Dengan pengabdian masyaraka
