Abstract

This research describes Indonesia's position in promoting Raja Ampat tourism by using soft power in the form of digital diplomacy. For this reason, a qualitative method was used with an online interview approach and using the conceptual framework of digital diplomacy and tourism. The results of this study indicate that digital diplomacy regarding Raja Ampat's tourism potential is carried out using the branding "Wonderful Indonesia", and "Pesona Indonesia" digitally through the websites and also through several social media platforms (Facebook and Instagram). It was found that there were several obstacles that needed to get the relevant Government's attention. namely, the limited funds faced by Raja Ampat management to manage the website, the limited resources in operating the website, and the limited staff involved in promoting Raja Ampat to international exhibitions. This research can be used as study material for policy makers to help promote tourism through digital diplomacy and can be used as a model for future research.

Abstract

This paper aims to observe the principles of humanitarianism in the current era. The principle of humanitarianism which consists of humanity, neutrality, impartiality and independence tends to be ignored. The neglect is based on the interests carried by each humanitarian organization. Therefore, the principle tends to be mixed with political affairs. This practice can be seen from the two humanitarian organizations IOM and UNHCR in carrying out their role in dealing with illegal immigrants, especially at the Immigration Detention Center, Surabaya. In practice the element of importance is given priority, giving rise to a dilemma for both organizations in carrying out their mandate as a humanitarian organization. These dilemmas include limited resources, internal work relations patterns of personnel, humanitarian worker’s motivation. Because of the dilemma, it is almost difficult for both organizations to adopt the principle of humanitarianism. In the end, combining elements of interest becomes a new term in humanitarian action. The term is known as new humanitarianism. This writing uses qualitative research methods with primary and secondary data sources. Primary data taken through interviews, observations and secondary data sources taken through books, journals, online news, government regulations. The discussion of this paper will use several concepts, namely humanitarianism and new humanitarianism.

Abstract

This paper will study about ASEAN’s role on the conflict in Myanmar, specifically Rohingya ethnical conflicts in 2017-2019. In its development, this conflict turns out to be far from over and ASEAN as the regional organization of South-East Asia should take the responsibility to solve this conflict. This paper will be reviewed using descriptive qualitative approach that is based on secondary data sources. Those data sources include academic journals, books, printed and online articles, and also other relevant sources. We concluded that the involvement of ASEAN in solving the conflict in Rohingya was because the responsibility of ASEAN to protect the countries in their region. In the effort to solve the conflict of Rohingya, ASEAN never wandered off the human rights principles. Meanwhile, in the process, ASEAN was assisted by Indonesia to approach it through soft diplomacy and by the United Nations (UN) through the concept of “Responsibility to Protect”. On the other hand, ASEAN also have a special team called ASEAN HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE (AHA). This team was specifically assigned in Rakhine and making 4 (four) recommendations according physical security, materials security, Rohingya registration, and social unification to prevent the recurrence of horizontal conflict in Myanmar.
