Abstract

Metrics in software development projects related to the effort and thought required to complete the project and the resources used. The methodology applied, for example, the time needed to complete, experts required, costs incurred, and methods used in software development. This research is an observational study to implement the theory of software metrics in a software development project. The expected result is a guide used to calculate the number of human resources needed in software development, which is calculated in units of person-hours.             According to the analysis above, software estimation is used to forecast the resources and costs necessary to complete a software development project the integrity of the new software estimation results. To obtain the most precise estimate, to study and calibrate the estimation formulation constant is necessary to light the current software development project's conditions

Abstract

Acute Otitis Media (AOM) is an inflammation of the middle ear caused by blockage of the Eustachian tube, impaired immune factors, and recurrent Upper Respiratory Tract Infections (URTI). The highest incidence of AOM can be found in developing countries. Among the numerous cases, 70% of AOM cases begin with a history of URTI. As a result of URTI history, congestion, and swelling occur in the nasal mucosa, nasopharynx, and eventually the Eustachian tube, leading to the development of AOM symptoms. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between the occurrence of acute otitis media and patients with upper respiratory tract infections at PKU Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta Hospital. This study is descriptive-analytical quantitative research with a cross-sectional design and retrospective study. Data collection was conducted through the collection of secondary data obtained from medical records of otitis media patients. This research was conducted from November to December 2022 at PKU Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta Hospital. The research subjects consisted of 113 individuals with otitis media. This study reports the analysis of the relationship between the occurrence of acute otitis media and patients with upper respiratory tract infections. There is no significant relationship between AOM and URTI among patients at PKU Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta Hospital, with a p-value of 0,457. There is no relationship between the occurrence of acute otitis media and patients with upper respiratory tract infections at PKU Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta Hospital.

Abstract

Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media (CSOM) is an inflammation of the middle ear and part of the mastoid that persists for more than 2 months. It is characterized by tympanic membrane perforation and purulent discharge, occasionally mixed with blood. World Health Organization (WHO) data from 2004 indicates that CSOM affects 65-330 million people, with a higher prevalence in developing countries. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between gender and age with CSOM. The research employed an observational analytic method using secondary data from medical records at PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital Yogyakarta from January 1, 2020, to February 28, 2022. Subjects were selected using purposive sampling, resulting in 122 respondents. The analysis utilized univariate and bivariate analyses using chi-square. The results showed that among 122 patients with otitis media and CSOM, females (54.9%) outnumbered males (45.1%). Age distribution was as follows: 2.5% aged 0-5 years, 6.6% aged 6-11 years, 4.9% aged 12-16 years, 27% aged 17-25 years, 9.8% aged 26-35 years, 13.1% aged 46-55 years, 13.1% aged 56-65 years, and 13.1% aged over 65 years. Bivariate analysis revealed no significant relationship between gender and CSOM (r= -0.115, p= 0.206) or between age and CSOM (r= -0.081, p= 0.375). The study concludes that there is no significant association between age or gender and the occurrence of CSOM.

Abstract

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a serious condition that can cause temporary or permanent physical, cognitive, and emotional impairments. Tracheostomy in TBI patients can help reduce airway resistance, improve secretion clearance, and support weaning from mechanical ventilation. Early tracheostomy (ET) may also reduce ICU stay, ventilation time, and long-term mortality. A 30-yearold female was referred after a motorbike accident without a helmet. She was unconscious, with a Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) of E1V2M1. Vital signs: temperature 38.1°C, pulse 74/min, respiratory rate 25/min, blood pressure 84/47 mmHg. Eye examination revealed lagophthalmos, chemosis, and a corneal epithelial defect. Neurological findings included anisocoria (right pupil 5 mm, left 3 mm), with no response in cranial nerves III, IV, and VI. Reflexes were normal, and no neck stiffness was observed. CT scan showed subdural hematoma (SDH), subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), and intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). The patient underwent tracheostomy, central venous catheter placement, craniotomy, decompression, and hematoma evacuation. The bleeding volume was 15 cc. She survived and regained consciousness (GCS compos mentis). This case highlights the potential benefit of early tracheostomy in severe TBI. While patients with more severe injuries may face delays due to instability, early intervention can support better outcomes and survival.

Abstract

Tonsillectomy remains a common surgical intervention for chronic or recurrent tonsillitis, with evolving techniques aiming to minimize complications and accelerate recovery. This case report explores the clinical outcomes of using conventional tonsillectomy compared to the Bipolar Vessel Sealing Device (BVSD) methods. Two male patients, aged 22 and 33, presented with chronic tonsillitis characterized by throat discomfort, odynophagia, and worsening symptoms, including sleep-related breathing difficulties. Both underwent tonsillectomy, one with the conventional Sluder-Ballenger technique and the other with BVSD. Postoperative parameters pain (measured by Visual Analog Scale), bleeding, fever, and time needed to regain the normal diet were monitored for six days. No bleeding or fever was observed in either patient. However, the BVSD technique was associated with significantly lower pain scores, ranging from VAS 5 to 0 by day six, compared to 9 to 3 in the conventional group. Additionally, patients in the BVSD group transitioned to solid food earlier (day 4), while the conventional group required until day 6. These findings suggest improved tissue preservation and faster functional recovery with BVSD. The BVSD technique offers advantages in postoperative pain control and recovery of swallowing function compared to conventional methods. Although limited by small sample size, this case report supports the potential of BVSD as a more patient-friendly and efficient surgical approach for tonsillectomy, warranting further investigation in larger, controlled studies

Abstract

Introduction: Maintaining ear health and hygiene is crucial as it directly influences one's auditory capabilities and overall quality of life. Previous research on university students states that almost all respondents (98%) do their ear cleaning routinely, which causes ear pain, ringing, and itching. According to WHO data, over 1 billion young individuals are susceptible to hearing loss due to exposure to noise or loud sounds. Therefore, the dedicated team provided education to students in the Medical Study Programme, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta, on maintaining ear and hearing health to avoid hearing impairment. Methods: The participants of this community service consisted of 27 students. This community service program was carried out in January 2024. The methods used in implementing this program in detail included preparing a pretest, providing educational material on how to maintain ear and hearing health, and ending with posttest activities. Results: On average, Participants who participated in this community service activity were 18-20 years old. Of the participants, only 21 participated in the pretest session, and only 24 participated in the posttest session. The results of the analysis showed that there was a significant increase in knowledge (p=0.001) between before education and after education. Conclusions: In this study, medical students' knowledge level at Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta regarding how to maintain ear and hearing health still needs to be improved. Education on maintaining ear and hearing health proved significant in improving knowledge.
