Abstract

Caries known as disease which hard to lose. The major causative of caries is Streptococcus mutans bacteria. Streptococcus mutans can be inhibited by antibacterial agent. Substances in the pericarp of mangosteen fruit (Garcinia mangostana Linn) was reported had an antibacterial ability. These compounds such as xanthone, saponins, tannins and flavonoids. The purpose of this study was to examined the effectiveness of mangosteen pericarp extracts (Garcinia mangostana Linn) for inhibite the growth of Streptococcus mutans, which the major causative bacteria of dental caries.This study used experimental laboratory with 25 sample were divided into 5 groups concentration which are 3.125%, 6.25%, 12.5% , 25%, and 50%. Streptococcus mutans culture on blood agar and the disks have been soaked in the mangosteen pericarp extracts.The disks placed on the blood agar. Effectiveness of antibacterial mangosteen’s pericarp extract formed in the presence of inhibition zones around paper disc and measured with sliding calipers (mm). The average inhibition zone, analyzed with the Kruskal-Wallis test followed by Mann Whitney test.The result of this research was significant difference (sig<0,05) from the Kruskal-Wallis test with the probability 0,000. The Mann Whitney test result is also said significant (p<0,05).Conclusion of this study, the mangosteen pericarp extracts (Garcinia mangostana Linn) with minimal concentration 3.125% can inhibit Streptococcus mutans. Keywords: Anti bacterial effect, Mangosteen’s pericarp extract, Streptococcus mutans

Abstract

Latar Belakang Early Childhood Caries pada umur 3-5 tahun, menurut penelitian terdahulu masih tergolong tinggi hingga mencapai angka 63%. Anak prasekolah paling dekat dengan ibunya sehingga kurangnya motivasi ibu dalam menjaga kesehatan gigi anaknya dapat mempengaruhi jumlah Early Childhood Caries.Tujuan mengetahui hubungan motivasi ibu tentang kesehatan gigi terhadap Early Childhood Caries pada gigi anak umur 3-5 tahun di TK Sinar Matahari.Metode Jenis penelitian ini menggunakan metode analitik deskriptif dengan pendekatan survey cross sectional. Subyek penelitian adalah anak umur 3-5 tahun TK Sinar Matahari yang berjumlah 56 anak dan 56 orang ibunya. Pengumpulan data Early Childhood Caries diperoleh dari hasil pemeriksaan gigi pada anak dan motivasi ibu tentang keseharan gigi diperoleh dengan menggunakan kuesioner yang telah diuji validitas kemudian data diolah. Analisis data meliputi analisis deskriptif dan uji hipotesis menggunakan uji Korelasi Spearman Rho.Hasil penelitian mengenai tingkat motivasi ibu tentang kesehatan gigi didapatkan 17,8 % tergolong kriteria buruk dan 43% tergolong kriteria baik. Hasil mengenai Early Childhood Caries didapatkan jumlah tipe minimal 19 anak dan jumlah tipe severe 15 anak. Data hubungan antara motivasi ibu tentang kesehatan gigi terhadap Early Childhood Caries digunakan uji Spearman Rho. Penelitian menyatakan ada hubunganyang kuat antara motivasi ibu tentang kesehatan gigi terhadap Early Childhood Caries dengan nilai koefisien korelasi sebesar 0,693.Kesimpulan bahwa ada hubungan antara motivasi ibu tentang kesehatan gigi terhadap Early Childhood Caries pada gigi anak umur 3-5 tahun di TK Sinar Matahari Semarang.

Abstract

Patient satisfaction is one of the service indicator in evaluating the success of the health care services in primary health centers. The aim of the of the research is to analize patient satisfaction in dental clinic of sidamulya primary health centers Brebes based on four service dimensions, that are assurance, empathy, tangible, and reliability using Likert scale.This research is a descriptive analysis type with 100 people samples, the sampling is through Non Probability Sampling with sampling incidental method.The results showed that pastient satisfaction toward assurance dimension patients were satisfied with the average index value of 70,55. On the dimension of empathy showed quite satisfied index value that is 65,1. On the dimension of tangible showed satisfaction with the average index value of 70,16. On the dimension of reliability is quite satisfied with the average index value of 55,25. Overall,all service in dental clinic sidamulya primary health services are quite satisfied with the average index of value of 65,28.Levels of patient satisfaction in the dental clinic primary health centers Sidamulya Brebes from lowest to highest seen from the dimensions of reliability, empathy, physical appearance and assurance. Abstract

Background: Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans found in plaque that will be the primary cause of gingivitis. Extract of Anacardium occidentale L leaves contains antibacterial substances which can help to preserve the health of the teeth. This research purposed to ensure the effectiveness of antibacterial effect in extract of Anacardium occidentale L leaves to Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans growth in gingivitis. Method: The research was conducted using the extract of Anacardium occidentale L leaves concentration of 5%, 16%, 32%, 40%, 60%, 80%,96%, aquades as control negative, metronidazole as control positive. The making extracts of Anacardium occidentale L leaves was done by maceration method. And then the extract tested by sinks diffusion method, one petri disk have a sink, with 3 times repetition, incubated for 24 hours and measured its radical zone with a caliper. Result: The radical zone average of Anacardium occidentale L leaves extract concentration of 5%, 16%, 32%, 40%, 60%, 80%, 96% respectively is 4.47 mm, 12.04 mm, 5.80 mm, 6.55 mm, 6.85 mm,7.20 mm, 8.05 mm. There were differences with One Way Anova in the groups treated with significance of 0.000. Conclusion: According to the research concluded that there is antibacterial potency in extract of Anacardium occidentale L leaves to bacterial growth of Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans.

Abstract

Background: Several processes in a teeth treatment often inflict wound ingingiva. Collagen is the key component of the wound healing. The collagen roles in advancing wound healing particularly, triggering the synthesis to induces collagen and cellular migration, and also inducing clotting cascades. Wound treatment using natural product is potential in accelerating wound healing, in particular duck egg membrane which contains collagen, glucosamine, and hyaluronic acid. This study aims to find out the influence of gel extract application of duck egg shell membrane 10 % towards collagen solidity on gingiva wound recovery process (study of Rattus norvegicus).Method: The subjects of the study consist of 20 male Rattus norvegicus aged 2-3 months which were given wound on labial gingiva of the maxillary central incisors with punch biopsy. The samples were divided into 2 groups, they were positive control group (Aloclair Gel®) and experimental group (gel extract of duck egg shell membrane 10%), each of them was treated topically twice a day for one minute.The assessment of collagen fiber was done by giving score over the collagen fiber solidity of the histological tissue through 6 points of view. The observer done by two person (blind interpretation) score of collagen fiber solidity.Result: The analysis result showed that there was a significant difference on collagen fiber solidity (p>0,05) between positive control groups and experimental group on the 3rd, 7th, and 14th day.Conclusion: This study concludes that the application of topical gel extract of duck egg shell membrane 10% affects the improvement of collagen fiber solidity on the process of healing gingiva wound on Rattus norvegicus
