Abstract

Big data's infrastructure is a technology that provides the ability to store, process, analyze, and visualize large data. The tools and applications used are one of the challenges when building big data's infrastructure. In the study, we offered a new strategy to optimize big data infrastructure design that was an essential part of big data processing by performing performance analysis applications used at each stage of big data processing. The process started from collecting data sourcing online news using web crawler methods using Scrapyand Apache Nutch. Next, implement Hadoop technologies to facilitate the distribution of big data storage and computing. No-sql databases Mongo DB and HBase made it easier to query data, after which they built search engines using Elasticsearch and Apache Solr. Data saved later in analysis using hive apache, pig, and spark. The data has been analyzed was shown on the website using Zeppelins, Metabolase, Kibana, and Tableau. The test scenario consisted of the number of servers and files used. Testing parameters started from process speed, memory usage, CPU usage, throughput, etc. The performance testing results of each application were compared to and analyzed to see the merits and defaults of the application as a reference to building optimal infrastructure design to meet the needs of the user. This research has produced two big data infrastructure design alternatives. The suggested infrastructure has been implemented on computer nodes in the big data pens for processing big data from online media and proving to be running well.

Abstract

ABSTRACTUntil now, in Pegantenan Village, there is no system capable of bridging between the government and Pegantenan Village residents using information technology. Village government services still apply the conventional system, which requires residents to come to the village office and takes a long time. Residents also have difficulty receiving information and submitting reports related to village conditions. In this service, a mobile-based village service application was developed so that it can be accessed by all residents in order to realize the Smart Village program and efforts towards implementing a transparent and progressive Village Government. The method of implementing activities consists of the data collection stage such as business processes and forms that residents use when handling letters. The next stage is making mobile-based applications and application socialization as well as sharing sessions about experiences while using the application. The result of this service is a mobile-based service application system for Pegantenan Village. There is also a web application that is used as an administrator. The mobile application is intended for residents while the web application is intended for admins, namely village officials. Mobile and web-based application systems allow residents to access the system anywhere and anytime so as to improve the quality of village government services to residents. Keywords: village service application; mobile application; smart village; pegantenan village.

Abstract

Digital transformation in the public sector has encouraged the development of queuing systems that not only organize service flows but also provide faster and more accurate access to information for citizens. Gebang Putih Urban Village, a community partner of the Electronic Engineering Polytechnic Institute of Surabaya (PENS), implemented a digital queuing system based on Android and web platforms in 2024; however, the system still had limitations in terms of responsiveness and communication channels with citizens. This community service activity focuses on the technical optimization of the queuing system by integrating a chat-based interaction feature into the mobile application and simplifying the queue number retrieval flow through conversational interaction. The system was developed using a User-centered design (UCD) approach, with key stages including needs analysis based on the evaluation of the previous system, design of a new system architecture, implementation of chat integration, and internal testing with urban village officers as key users. The optimization results cover three main technical aspects: (1) integration of the chat service module into the mobile application without modifying the core queuing logic, (2) a queue number retrieval feature via chat that is directly connected to the digital queuing module, and (3) a two-way chat channel between citizens and officers facilitated through a web-based dashboard. Internal trials indicate improvements in service workflows, reduced face-to-face interactions for simple inquiries, and increased staff understanding of how to use the digital system. From a community engagement perspective, this work represents a development and capacity-building phase that strengthens officers’ ability to manage technology-based services and provides a technical foundation that is ready to be disseminated and replicated in other urban villages with minimal adaptation.

Abstract

In the digital era, protecting sensitive data has become an urgent necessity as incidents of identity theft and information breaches continue to rise. Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) offers a solution by enabling storage-level encryption without requiring changes to applications; however, PostgreSQL does not natively support TDE. Vendors such as EnterpriseDB and Cybertec have developed TDE implementations that can be integrated to address this security need. This study aims to explore the implementation of TDE on PostgreSQL and evaluate its impact on system performance and data security. An experimental approach was employed using the pgbench benchmarking tool. Performance tests were conducted on databases of varying sizes—from 50 to 5,000,000 rows under both low‑load and high‑load conditions. The primary metrics were transactions per second (TPS) and average transaction latency. Test results indicate that implementing TDE significantly enhances resistance to unauthorized access but incurs a notable performance penalty. The Cybertec non-TDE solution achieved the highest TPS and lowest latency, whereas Cybertec with TDE experienced an encryption overhead that reduced throughput by approximately 25–35%. Meanwhile, the EnterpriseDB non-TDE configuration demonstrated more stable performance, exhibiting a smaller standard deviation compared to the TDE implementation. In conclusion, adopting TDE on PostgreSQL substantially increases data protection, yet organizations must weigh this security benefit against the resultant performance decline. Future recommendations include optimizing encryption configurations and investigating hardware‑acceleration techniques to minimize overhead.
