Abstract

The rise of the internet of things (IoT) technology has brought new security challenges, necessitating robust intrusion detection systems (IDS). This research applies swarm intelligence (SI) principles, specifically the pigeon inspired optimization (PIO) algorithm, to enhance IDS effectiveness in IoT environments. Drawing on the behavior of social species, SI fosters decentralized control and emergent behavior from simple rules. These principles guide the PIO algorithm, making it apt for optimizing IDS. We utilize two comprehensive IoT datasets – the Canadian Institute for Cybersecurity (CIC) IoT dataset 2023 and the IoT dataset for IDS, aiming to boost the IDS’s capability to detect illicit attacks. By adapting the PIO algorithm, our IDS learns from the environment, adapts to evolving threats, and mitigates false-positive rates. Preliminary tests show that our SI-based IDS outperforms traditional systems’ accuracy, speed, and adaptability. This research advances SI applications in IoT security, contributing to developing more resilient IDS and ultimately enhancing IoT network security against a range of cyber threats.

Abstract

This survey investigates the application of the Data Distribution Service (DDS) within the domains of edge and fog computing architectures. DDS, a middleware architecture conceived by the Object Management Group (OMG), offers robust publish-subscribe functionalities characterized by low latency, high reliability, and scalability attributes, rendering it particularly suitable for real-time data dissemination in distributed systems. The paradigms of edge and fog computing, recognized for their capability to process data in proximity to its origin, leverage the functionalities of DDS to tackle issues such as latency minimization, bandwidth enhancement, and resource efficiency. The research meticulously evaluates the significance of DDS in facilitating scalable and reliable communication for applications spanning industrial automation, healthcare, and smart urban environments. It delineates pivotal implementation obstacles, including resource limitations, interoperability challenges, and security concerns within decentralized frameworks. Mitigation strategies such as lightweight DDS protocols, adaptive Quality of Service (QoS) policies, and artificial intelligence-driven optimizations are underscored to address these constraints. Employing PRISMA guidelines, a total of 16 peer-reviewed studies were scrutinized to respond to research inquiries centered on the role of DDS in edge and fog computing, associated technical hurdles, implications for QoS, and emergent trends. The results underscore the capacity of DDS to converge with cutting-edge tech-nologies such as 5G, blockchain, and digital twins, thereby influencing the evolution of intelligent distributed systems. This survey enhances the existing comprehension of DDS's transformative capabilities within contemporary computing architectures, offering valuable insights into best practices and prospective avenues for the optimization of edge and fog computing environments.

Abstract

Small-scale fish-farming businesses often experience challenges in managing the fragmented operational data, which includes cultivation activities, inventory, transactions and reporting processes. Lack of an integrated information management structure restricts the traceability of data and reduces the efficiency of operations. Unlike prior digital aquaculture systems, which mainly target environmental monitoring, this study designs a layered architecture for the web-based single-farm fish farming management system using the prototype method, with novelty in the architecture-level integration of five system layers with four business domains rather than in either method individually. The research methodology consists of requirement analysis, software requirements specification development, layered architecture design, prototype development, system implementation, and functionality verification. The proposed architecture separates system components into five logical layers: presentation, application, data access, data and cache layers and decomposes business functions into production, inventory, financial and reporting domains. The developed system comprises eight functional modules that enable the fish farming management processes from end to end. The functional verification was done by black-box testing with nine test scenarios, which had a 100% success rate. The results indicate that the proposed layered architecture provides a structured basis for integrating cultivation and business processes in a single-farm fish farming environment; maintainability and scalability follow from the design but were not empirically measured. Future development may extend the architecture with multi-farm management, Internet of Things integration and quantitative evaluation of software quality attributes.

Abstract

The advancement of technology in the field of photography has become an increasingly growing trend over time. In the context of Indonesia, the history of photography began in 1840, in line with the discovery of photography by Juriaan Munich, a Dutch media officer. Photography has been a part of people's lifestyle for centuries, ranging from the use of simple digital cameras to sophisticated devices that require specialized skills. Lensa Photography, as a photography studio in Bengkalis Regency, also faces challenges in the booking process. Manual processes through telephone or direct visits often result in scheduling errors. To address this issue, this study has successfully developed a website-based Lensa Photography booking system using the Laravel framework and the Rapid Application Development (RAD) development method. This booking system has successfully met its objectives by providing the following features, More efficient schedule management, Improved scheduling accuracy, Time and cost savings, Increased customer satisfaction, This booking system has been adopted by Lensa Photography and has provided significant benefits for the company, including, More organized and organized booking schedules, Reduced scheduling errors, More efficient booking time and costs, Increased customer satisfaction.
