Abstract

Face recognition is the use of biometric innovations that can see or validate a person by seeing and investigating designs depending on the shape of the individual. Face recognition is used largely for the purpose of well-being, despite the fact that passion for different areas of use is growing. Overall, face recognition innovations are worth considering because they have the potential for broad legal jurisdiction and different business applications. It is widely used in many spaces. How it works is a product of facial recognition processing facial geometry. The hole between the ear and the good way from the front to the jaw are the main variables. This code distinguishes the highlight of the face that is important for your facial separation and creates your facial expression. Therefore, this study gives an overview of age detection using a different combination of machine learning and image processing methods on the image dataset.

Abstract

Nowadays, most Malaysians have used overpower usage of house appliances. Malaysian does not have the habit of controlling the household’s electricity consumption every day. Reducing electricity consumption is better for the earth, reducing harmful greenhouse emissions and minimizing the household's overall impact. Besides, one of the safety problems that Malaysian currently face is thieves entering the house when the owner is outstation or traveling. The proposed home appliance controller application can control and calculate the power consumption of home appliances. It can also control and set automatic timing based on the light to cause thieves to realize that the house may have people since the lights were turned on. This paper aims to identify the application features of controllers for home appliances, then develop the mobile application not only for gaming or entertainment but for better, enhanced, convenience and efficiency of lifestyle and finally to evaluate the users’ acceptance towards mobile app using expectation-confirmation theory model. Results show that perceived usefulness significant with confirmation (0.61) and continuance intentions (0.69). Perceived usefulness was demonstrated to be an essential predictor of continuance intentions (0.44). With this system or app, house appliances will be communicated and under control by the house owner.

Abstract

This paper discussed the development of multi-maker augmented reality for learning Jawi in order to complement the formal study in school. We conducted an experiment with N=10 participants from Pusat Minda Lestari, UMS age 5 and 6 years old, to study the effectiveness of learning Jawi using the developed mobile augmented reality application. We prepared a test environment comprising an electroencephalography (EEG) system and mobile augmented reality (AR) application for analysis and testing. Results found that the learn ability of the students was improved after they used the mobile application to learn basic Jawi. The methodology used was ADDIE model, which included the analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluate phases. This project is an innovation in learning Jawi and hopefully can increase the children’s interest in learning Jawi.

Abstract

Emotions play a crucial role in human-computer interaction. Emotion research in the field of human-computer interaction has only started recently and continuously evolving through the investigation and understanding of emotional effects. Thus, it forms an intelligent interaction between human and computer by responding effectively to the humans’ feelings. Emotional design generates remarkable user experiences for websites as the emotional experiences create an intense impression on our long-term memory. Recent scientific findings recommend emotional elements to be considered in designing websites as emotions influences one’s perception, conception and decision-making throughout the interaction with a website. A poorly designed user interface leads to bad user interaction while rising the users’ arousal and a displeasing user experience with a website elicits dissatisfaction emotion where consecutively results in avoidance and prevents revisit to the website. This proves the importance of emotional engagement in a website design. This research evaluated users’ emotions toward a Malaysian higher learning institution website which was designed in accordance with the standard Kansei-based web design guideline. The result justified the standard Kansei-based web design guideline for website of higher learning institutions in Malaysia.

Abstract

Gamification described as the use of game elements for purposes beyond games. As an extension of that, gamified assessment is defined as the use of gamification for assessment purposes. However, the traditional method of assessment remains the standard for student performance assessment, and this raises two assumptions. First, the current gamification implementation is still in its infancy. Thus, it is still unappealing enough for practical use. Second, there is a lack of study that brings forward the desire to have gamification implemented in the assessment. Hence, this study intends to explore the student’s perception of gamified assessment followed by their verdict, acquire the strength and weakness points of the existing implementation. In total, 86 students across several universities in Malaysia involved in this study. The present study implemented standard descriptive statistical methods for analyzing the data. The findings showed that there are needs for gamified assessment for an engaging learning experience. Besides, the results showed one of the earlier presumptions, which is the lack of study that points toward the student’s desire to have a gamified assessment. Keenly, the results of the study will emphasize the need for developing a rigorous gamified assessment model as a guideline to develop an application that engaging learning experience.

Abstract

As technology grows, people tend to use or apply anything digitalized instead of printed, especially for references. This is because the printed form references are not easy to find. Even if the references are found successfully, it has already cost a lot of time, money, energy, etc. At the same time, people also put more emphasize on health issues. They are beginning to be more alert in fields that they have ignored before, such as traditional medicine and Chinese medicine. Based on these two points, it can be said that the effort of transforming Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) from printed based reference into online reference as a database is a public beneficial effort. There are a lot of online TCM database outside of Malaysia, especially from the People’s Republic of China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Those herbal remedies from overseas are somewhat different from the herbal remedies in Malaysia due to the habits and occurrences of the herbs. Through this project, it is hoped that this database will help the local people to discover and identify the herbs that they could find in the surrounding area. The objectives of this project are to identify the validity of the information of the Sabah TCM using mixed method, to develop the Sabah TCM database, and finally to evaluate the usability of the database designed using meCUE. The methodology used was 4D Appreciative Inquiry Model, which included discovery, dream, design, and destiny phases. The advantage of this model was to take a positive core to make any changes instead of finding the weaknesses of the project. Hopefully through the developed database, local Sabahan can take the advantage in identifying the proper usage of existing herbs in their surroundings.

Abstract

This paper presents the evaluation of positive emotion in children's mobile learning applications. The mobile learning application is a teaching aid that can help students to self-study and increase the students’ interest in learning especially children. This paper will discuss how mobile learning application affects the children interest in school. The evaluation method implemented to evaluate the rate of positive emotion elicited by the children using mobile learning applications was a mixed method of qualitative and quantitative methods. Since emotion can be either negative or positive, the identification of a proper method or perspective was required to prove that positive emotion was really elicited. Next, the data was collected through the children’s assessment score, Electroencephalograms (EEG) device, Emotion identification using micro-expression (facial expression), Kort Scale and interview to confirm the positive emotion felt by the students. The result shows that all five perspectives or methods have shown that positive emotion is produced. It is found that the Mobile learning application can really trigger the children’s positive emotions.
