Abstract

Abstract

Iron sand is a source of natural magnetic material which is quite abundant. Iron sand can be useful as a magnetic source material which has the potential as a raw material for using magnetic materials. Iron sand contains non magnetic minerals which can reduce its magnetic properties. Therefore, iron sand sample preparation was carried out by washing NaOH 0,4 M and sand sample size variations. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of washing and the size of iron sand on the magnetic properties in terms of the increase in magnetic elements. The results of research with XRF (X-Ray Fluoresence) show that iron sand with a size of 120 mesh has a magnetic content of Fe (78.07%) higher than iron sand with a size of 80 mesh with Fe content (34.63%). XRD (X-Ray Diffraction) analysis shows that washing iron sand with a size of 80 mesh gives a quarts phase (SiO2) at 2θ = 27.62° and iron sand washing with a size of 120 mesh gives the main peak magnetite phase (Fe3O4) at 2θ = 30.69° with a crystallinity of 15%. VSM (Vibrating Sample Magnetometer) analysis depicted on the hysteresis curve shows that the smaller the particle size of iron sand, the higher the magnetic properties. There are still minor oxides in iron sand as  oxide minerals.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The case of stunting under five in North Mataru in 2019 was still very high at 51.8%. This percentage exceeds the national stunting percentage in 2019 which shows a declining trend of 27.67% (Rikesda 2018). Based on the results of the survey in the field, it is known that the local community has a variety of field products as local food. Local food produced is very diverse including rice, corn, tubers, and vegetables. This local food has sufficient nutritional value to meet the nutritional needs of toddlers in supporting toddler growth. The purpose of implementing this PKM is to provide understanding to the cadres of integrated service posts in North Mataru Village through the socialization of local food ingredients (brown rice and moringa) and the benefits of local food to prevent stunting and provide training on making local MP-ASI from brown rice ingredients and moringa. The results of this service activity showed that the participants became more aware of the benefits of local food to be processed into complementary foods (MP-ASI) in supporting toddler nutrition. In addition, the direct training made the participants more enthusiastic and gave a good assessment that they had gained new knowledge and skills. Participants who attended were also committed to continuing the results of the training to be passed on to other breastfeeding mothers.

Abstract

Puntaru beach is famous for its three-colored sand that is mixed into one of them reddish-brown, black, and white sand. Research on the mineral composition of the tricolor sand has been conducted so that the use of three-colored sand is still done traditionally. This study aims to obtain information on the silica content and other mineral compositions of the three-colored sand of Puntaru Beach as initial data for further development. The three-color sand preparation process is carried out by the method of milling / crushing sand samples then sieving and washing with H2O. Stages of characterization of silica in three-colored sand were carried out using X-ray fluorescence (XRF), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), and Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR). The analysis showed that the percentage of Si was the most dominant 45.28%, followed by Fe 25.94% and other minor elements. XRD results show that the three-colored sand contains quartz mineral (SiO2) identified at the main peak with 2 with in the 24.34 ° area. The black color of the sand is influenced by Fe content of 25.94% with hematite metal oxide (Fe2O3) 15.80% and reddish-brown influenced by the presence of sulfur (3.25%) in the form of mineral SO3 4.32%.

Abstract

The need for immersion oil becomes very important in carrying out various laboratory analyses with a microscope to clarify the image of objects with sharp imaging. To answer this need, research has been carried out to find an alternative to immersion oil by utilizing one of the typical Alor plants that grow a lot in dry areas, namely Kesambi. In this study, the results of the immersion oil test from Kesambi which was made in 2016 were compared with the results of the retest of the same oil in 2021 and compared with standard immersion oil to determine the quality of the immersion oil. In the existing stock of Kesambi immersion oil, physical properties analysis, GC-MS, and imaging of onion cells were carried out. The results showed that the comparison of the physical properties of Kesambi immersion oil which was analyzed in 2016 and the results of the re-analysis in 2021 showed that there was no significant difference based on the parameters of density, viscosity, refractive index, acid number, and aperture value. Results GC-MS in standard immersion oil only contained 49.68% benzyl benzoic acid and reanalyzed Kesambi immersion oil found palmitic acid 12.26%, oleic acid 46.46%, stearic acid 5.26% arachidic acid 13, 84%, and other spectra were detected as impurities. Although there were impurities and differences in fatty acid content between the standard immersion oil and the immersion oil from Kesambi that had been stored for five years, there was no difference in the imaging results of onion cells.
