Abstract

This study aims to identify the dependency stage and various activities undertaken by students of Riau University in accessing online   media. This study used quantitative methods by distributing questionnaires to 100 students. The results of this study indicate that students of the University of Riau accessing online media for several reason. Almost all of them have internet with an average access frequency more than 10 times in a day and many of the access online media more than 6 hours in a day. The most online media type accessed by students are social media, where home being the favorite place to access the online media. Personal purposes are the most reason for students to access the online media such as searching for entertainment, relaxing, looking for reference and sharing opinions with other social media user instead of other social reason such as interacting, looking for new friends, updating current events, sharing talents and interests. In general, the results of this study can explain the implementation of media dependency system theory by Sandra Ball-Rokeach Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi tahap ketergantungan dan berbagai aktivitas yang dilakukan oleh mahasiswa Universitas Riau dalam mengakses media online. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif dengan menyebarkan angket pada 100 orang mahasiswa. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa Universitas Riau memiliki aktivitas yang cukup beragam dalam mengakses media online. Hampir keseluruhan dari mereka berlangganan internet dengan frekuensi rata-rata lebih dari 10 kali dalam sehari dan banyak yang mengakses media online lebih dari 6 jam dalam sehari. Jenis media online yang paling banyak diakses oleh mahasiswa adalah media sosial, tempat mengakses media online paling sering adalah di rumah. Mahasiswa lebih banyak memiliki ketergantungan terhadap media online untuk tujuan pribadi seperti mencari hiburan, bersantai, mencari referensi bahan kuliah dan berbagi pendapat dengan pengguna lain dibandingkan dengan tujuan yang bersifat sosial seperti berinteraksi, menambah teman baru, mengupdate peristiwa terkini, dan sharing bakat dan minat. Secara umum hasil penelitian ini dapat menjelaskan implementasi teori sistem ketergantungan media oleh Sandra Ball-Rokeach

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh penggunaan media sosial terhadap perubahan sistem nilai masyarakat Melayu di Kota Pekanbaru. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode kuantitatif dengan pendekatan eksplanatif untuk menguji hubungan antar variabel yang dihipotesiskan. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan kuesioner yang diedarkan kepada 166 orang masyarakat melayu yang diambil dengan teknik unknown population. Analisis data dilakukan melalui skala Likert dengan 4 option. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa  tidak ada pengaruh secara signifikan antara penggunaan media sosial yang diukur melalui indikator frekuensi dan durasi terhadap sistem  nilai masyarakat Melayu di Kota Pekanbaru. Ada faktor lain yang tidak dilihat dalam penelitian ini yang secara signifikan memberikan andil dalam mempengaruhi sistem nilai masyarakat Melayu. Perubahan tersebut lebih kepada hal-hal yang bersifat positif dan mengarah pada penguatan penerapan sistem nilai yang telah dianut oleh masyarakat Melayu selama ini.

Abstract

Household’s Food security during the Covid 19 pandemic, through the use of yards, can be conducted by the community independently such as hydroponic. However, people's understanding of hydroponic, especially in Pekanbaru, is still limited. Therefore, training for the community is needed as a community empowerment. These activities can be expanded through interesting educational videos. This community empowerment activity aims to increase community knowledge and skills regarding hydroponic technology during the pandemic, and is expected to become a post-pandemic household-scale economic enterprise. This community service activity is carried out by means of training and mentoring, as well as making a video to be widely disseminated through social media. The results of the community service activities show an increase in community knowledge and skills of hydroponic. After the training, the community independently has been aplicating hydroponic technology and biulding hydroponic group. This process is documented as educational video which is useful for the wider community in Pekanbaru City.

Abstract

The ability to publish articles in scientific journals is among the parts of a teacher's professional competence. The problem is that many teachers have not mastered the skills to write scientific papers. As a result, many teachers find it difficult to advance in rank, especially for promotion after IV / a. This paper describes a community service activity sponsored by Universitas Riau lecturers which aims to help teachers improve their scientific writing skills. Community service activities were carried out at a school in Pekanbaru, Riau. This paper further explains the concept of the workshop, the content of workshop materials, and the workshop's effectiveness. This workshop lasted for two months with three face-to-face training. The rest was done online via the Google Classroom platform. The material content covers the basic principles of scientific writing, the steps for writing scientific journals, how to cite and make references, including how to automatically cite using reference manager applications such as Mendeley, and how to submit articles through the online journal OJS system. Data from the survey conducted at the end of the community service activity showed that, in general, this activity was running well and effectively. The majority of participants (72.7%) stated that their motivation to write increased after attending the training. Their knowledge of writing scientific articles have improved after training. Their ability in writing scientific journals is also relatively better than before following this structured workshop.

Abstract

This paper describes a community service program conducted by Riau University lecturers which aims to develop several aspects of 21st-century competence through a series of soft skills training for forty participants. This paper further explains the concept of training, the content of the training materials, and the effectiveness of the training. This training lasted for two months with four virtual face-to-face training via Zoom Meetings. The rest was done online through the Google Classroom platform. The content of the training material is divided into two sub soft skills: increasing the ability to take international standard tests (International English Language Testing System/IELTS) and developing public speaking skills. Data from a survey conducted at the end of the program showed that in general, this activity had been running well and effectively. The majority of participants (85.7%) stated that the training activities provided positive benefits for them. More specifically, 63.2% of participants said that their listening skills had improved considerably after the training. Similar data occurs for reading and writing skills (68.4% and 52.6%, respectively). Similar data also appeared in the aspect of public speaking training where the majority of participants admitted that their abilities were getting better after attending the training, especially in terms of engagement with the audience. Thus, this training has benefited the trainees in developing their soft skills.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has had a major impact on MSME players, especially in the Bengkalis area. Bengkalis is an archipelago which is a strategic place to promote MSME products to other countries such as Malaysia and Singapore. The ability to use various applications and content creation for digital marketing is an obstacle for Bengkalis UMKM Community members. This is especially the case for the Baby boomers and Gen X people who were not familiar with communication technology such as smartphones at their young ages. Changes in consumers' purchasing patterns from offline to online provide challenges for MSME actors to master digital skills. Through community service, coaching and training were carried out for these business actors who become activity partners. The community service program aimed to provide knowledge and skills to Bengkalis MSME members to gain skills in digital marketing. This program was carried out through face-to-face and online meetings via zoom meetings so that participants can continue to be fostered for three months. Based on surveys to participants, it was found that this program increases the number of consumers on social media through the content they create during coaching. In addition, participants also managed to understand how to create good content to share on social media.

Abstract

Marketing Event is one of marketing communication strategy that carried out by the district government to make their district become a tourist destination, and to get the investors who can invest their capital in theirs district. Beside, through marketing communication strategy the marketing event also performed regional brand and establish brand awareness in the minds of tourists. Therefore, the Government of Siak regency being aggressively  promote their region by launching a regional brand that are “Siak The Truly Malay”, a slogan which reflected The Culture of Real Malay will be found in Siak. The purpose of this study want to analyze the determination of market segmentation is done by the Siak district government in implementing marketing communications strategies in build the brand awareness of the Siak The Truly Malay. The study also wants to understand that the marketing communication strategy in the form of marketing event which is undertaken by the Government of Siak in build the brand awareness and the media which used to promote the brand’s. The method which is used in the researches are qualitative, It’s is used five informants. The results of this study indicated that in unclear determination of market segmentation for tourists who are expected to visit Siak, meaning Siak District Government has not been able clearly identified their target market segments. While the strategy of marketing communication through marketing event which designed by Siak district government to build brand awareness 'Siak The Truly Malay' was not maximal because of the event is held not focus on culture only, but more to sporting events. Abstract

Today's youth face challenges and competition in life that is more complex than in previous times because the world is getting smaller due to globalization. The problem is that many youths do not yet have sufficient skills to exist in this rapidly changing era. This paper describes a community service activity sponsored by a group of lecturers in the English Education and Communication Studies Study Programs of Universitas Riau which aims to develop the ability of Riau youth to take the international standardised English test (IETLS). This paper further explains the concept of training, the content of the training materials, and the effectiveness of the training. This training lasts for one month with four face-to-face training sessions. The rest is done online through the Google Classroom platform. The content of the training material focuses on improving the ability to take international standardized tests (IELTS). Data from the self-assessment conducted at the end of the service activity session showed that in general this activity had been running well and effectively. The training activities provided positive benefits for the participants as seen from the average self-assessment data in the very good category (3.52). More specifically, the average increase in participants' listening skills after the training was in the very good category (3.43). The speaking ability of the trainees has increased and is in the very good category (3.54). This increase also applies to reading and writing skills in the same category (3.63 and 3.47, respectively). Thus, this training has benefited the trainees in developing their soft skills.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui sumber informasi pemilu dan perilaku pencarian informasi pemilu serentak tahun 2019 di kalangan pemilih pemula di Kota Pekanbaru. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif deskriptif. Pengumpulan data menggunakan kuesioner dengan menyebarkan angket kepada responden penelitian sebanyak 377 orang. Analisis data menggunakan nilai skor rata-rata yang dihitung dengan menggunakan SPSS 2.5. Hasil penelitian menujukkan bahwa pemilih pemula di Kota Pekanbaru mayoritas (66,8 persen) mengakses informasi pemilu melalui media sosial. Informasi yang paling banyak diakases adalah berita yang berkaitan dengan calon presiden dan wakil presiden. Perilaku pencarian informasi pemilih pemula di Kota pekanbaru mencakup tahapan starting, chaining, browsing, differentiating, monitoring, extracting, verifying, dan ending.
