Abstract

This study aims to explain the representation of Parangtritis women in the Siti movie. Coastal women plays an important role in economic activities on the land. The system of division of labor in coastal communities requires women to be involved in the public sphere. Through the semiotic method of Roland Barthes, this research reveals the repre- sentation of coastal women through the four shots shown. There are three findings in this study. First, coastal women are inseparable from the devotion to the husband and family. Second, helping their husband's income in the public space. Third, self helplessness which resulted in limited area of work in public space. These three findings are not a research effort to generalize the portraits of coastal women. With the dual roles, eventually coastal women cannot escape from their domestic responsibilities due to economic distress.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the hegemonic relationship between Jang Hansol and the other who initiate superiority and mimicry issues on the Korea Reomit channel. Jang Hansol's popularity clearly complements the hegemonic discourse of Korean colonialism in Indonesia, as obviously seen in the form of hybrid culture. The importance of this research lies in the absence of previous studies that examined the relationship between the colonized and the colonizer on YouTube. The researcher sees the presence of binary opposition between Jang Hansol and three content creators who play a role in their respective areas of subordination. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method by dissected three collaborative videos between Jang Hansol and Jerome Polin Sijabat, Alphiandi, and Natya Shina. It is readily apparent that the three videos serve as Jang Hansol's colonial strategy in maintaining his power as the superior while at the same time subjugating the position of the colonized. The findings show two hegemonic relations. First, the hierarchical relation shows that the colonizer expresses speech through native languages to strengthen his position as superior. Second, conflicting relations of the other show that the attempts to imitate the colonizer only produce imperfect imitation. These two relations show the Korean hegemony that has been built between Jang Hansol and the other along the surgin Korean Wave.

Abstract

This research aims to explain the management of digital PR in the Madiun Precinct Police from the perspective of Phillips and Young. The achievements of the Madiun Precinct Police's PR are inseparable from the demands of digital technology and the capacity of the Madiun Precinct Police as a public service institution. The Madiun Precinct Police's PR utilizes digital PR not only to provide information but also to solidify public communication for the maintenance of public safety and order. With the role of PR and the achievements attained, this poses a challenge for the Madiun Precinct Police's PR in managing digital PR. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed by applying the five fundamental elements of digital PR by Phillips and Young, which include transparency, porosity, the internet as an agent, richness in content, and reach. The research findings indicate that the management of digital PR has been achieved with the readiness of an online system that includes supporting components such as platforms, channels, and context. Public information services are carried out clearly and openly, with information dissemination through the internet being controlled. The transformation of messages from PR to the public does not preclude the possibility of change. In the event of misinformation, PR will follow up incidentally. As public servants, the Madiun Precinct Police's PR is required to be capable of creating creative content and skilled in managing social media.

Abstract

This study aims to explain the fantasy theme on the replication of the song Yang Terdalam. The background of this research is the high trend of the replication from December to January 2022 on TikTok. Users on TikTok have their own identity. Identity is an absolute requirement for a user to participate in social networking services. In addition, participation is an indicator of active users in digital culture or a culture where people can produce and consume, distribute and replicate memes in their own way. This shows that users as cultural prosumers do both production and consumption in replicating memes. They dramatize messages into fantasy chains to create effective, fun, entertaining communication and build relationships between users. The author applied a descriptive approach and a conversational analysis method with fantasy theme analysis techniques. User comments are narratives that explain the dramatic message conveyed by the user. The research object is three video replications on TikTok. The results showed three fantasy themes, namely resistance to performance hegemony which was built by two types of fantasy, there are constructive satire on ugliness and metaphors of anime characters, objectification of disabilities, and domestication of women. This suggests that a fantasy can be a situation where the rhetoric is repeated within the group. When fantasy becomes a rhetorical vision, users have created dramatization

Abstract

Soft White Underbelly is a YouTube channel that produces content of interviews with marginalized people in America. It uncovers stories of stigmatized people and reveals the systemic inequality behind their presence. Gender-based violence (GBV) is one of the issues addressed on this channel. It portrays how prostitutes are victims of GBV. The author applied Stuart Hall’s audience reception theory. The theory proposes that media messages are not static. Hall suggested that expectations and prior knowledge influence their text interpretation. This research investigates how young audiences perceive portrayals of GBV victims in Soft White Underbelly's videos on prostitution and explores the factors that influence these perceptions. A qualitative method was adopted, employing audience reception analysis as the approach. Informants were international YouTube users between the ages of 18 and 30. The study finds various receptions, influenced by social factors, media habits, educational levels, personal experiences, and economic factors. Furthermore, this research confirms that Hall's reception theory is evident in today's audience reception. The findings demonstrate how viewers can develop critical awareness, interpret media texts, and disseminate them back into their social environment.
