Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the training and participants' responses to the training. The research was a quasi-experiment with one-group pretest postest design. The sample was chosen using purposive sampling method. The number of samples was 38 elementary school teachers. The research instrument was a test question instrument to determine the effectiveness of the training, and a questionnaire to determine the teacher's response to the training. By using Hake's normalized gain data analysis, a training effectiveness score of 0.40 was obtained, which means that the training was effective enough to increase participants' knowledge related to the training material. While the teacher responses were processed in terms of percentages and graphs, an average of 58.16% of participants rated very well on the training program and an average of 68.95% of participants rated very well on the performance of the facilitator during the training. Based on these results the training carried out has been assessed well by the participants but it is necessary to develop an advanced training program so that the teachers participating in the next training will better understand the inquiry learning model in science learning.

Abstract

This research focuses on the analysis of the measurement result of the virtual lock-in amplifier (virtual-LIA) in the light transmission experiment as the trial step of developing the virtual-LIA. The virtual-LIA used in this research is designed by using the Vernier sensor DAQ as the data acquisition and the LabVIEW as the programming media. The design of virtual-LIA is based on the mathematical operations of LIA. The type of virtual-LIA is a single phase with the capabilities to process the external reference signal. Light transmission experiments are carried out using formazin polymer suspension with turbidity level of 3000 NTU, 3500 NTU, and 4000 NTU as the medium in which light is passed. The accuracy of the measurement results is known by comparing the results of virtual-LIA with real-LIA SR510. The experiments are also carried out in bright and darkroom conditions to determine the ability of virtual-LIA in reducing noise signals. Based on the experiment, the results obtained that the measurement accuracy of the virtual-LIA developed is above 94% compared to the LIA SR510. Virtual-LIA could measure small signals with and without noise with the average percentage of differences measured between dark and bright conditions is 0.54%.DOI: 10.17977/um024v6i12021p001

Abstract

As a SEAMEO Centre with a mandate to enhance the competence of science teachers and educational personnel in Southeast Asia, SEAMEO QITEP in Science (SEAQIS) consistently develops programs in line with the current trends in education, one of which is STEM Education. Using a descriptive method, this article aims to provide an overview of the STEM program developed by SEAQIS and its implementation in Indonesia from 2016 to 2023. There are 92 SEAQIS programs related to enhancing the competence of science teachers and educational personnel in STEM learning in Indonesia, with a total of 8,388 participants. Overall, from 2016 to 2023, SEAQIS has been able to provide competence enhancement services in STEM learning to science teachers and educational personnel in 35 provinces in Indonesia, with the majority of participants (59.41%) coming from West Java province.

Abstract

Science learning in Early Childhood Education (ECE) serves as a crucial foundation for developing children’s critical thinking skills and curiosity. However, its implementation often encounters challenges related to topic selection, teaching methods, and limited resources. This study aims to analyze the science activities being taught, the learning resources used, and the challenges faced by ECE teachers in Bandung City and Bandung Regency. Using a multi-case study approach, the research involved classroom observations and in-depth interviews conducted in 17 ECE institutions, with data analyzed thematically. Findings indicate that the most commonly taught science topics are colors and water, delivered through simple experiments using physical materials. In contrast, complex concepts such as human anatomy and engineering are rarely addressed due to teachers' limited understanding and the lack of instructional media. Key challenges include low levels of teacher scientific literacy, inadequate facilities, and the developmental characteristics of young learners that require adaptive approaches. These findings highlight the need for practice-based teacher training, the development of innovative learning media, and multi-stakeholder collaboration to support effective science instruction. This study offers practical contributions for educators, policymakers, and researchers in designing higher-quality and more sustainable science learning strategies for early childhood education.
