Abstract

Background: Diversification of processed fishery products to increase the added value of fishery products, including processed crab abon products. As well as, the product is kindly alternative consumption side dishes. Crab abon is a fishery product that is developing and becoming a superior snack product typical of Balikpapan city. Thus, the benefits and feasibility of the business are quite promising in the future. Aims: The study aims (1) to identify the crab abon consumption of costumers, and (2) to analysis the profitability of the crab abon business in Manggar Baru Village. Methods: The research was conducted from August to November 2024, in Manggar Baru, Balikpapan city. Data was collected through survey methods and in depth-interviews with business actors. Then the data was analysed using the business efficiency analysis approach, Net Profit Margin (NPM), and Return on Investment (ROI). Results: The results of the study showed that costumers bought crab abon as the preference of consumption side dishes, where the average production of crab abon in a month was around 90 kg which packaged in a size of 50 grams per pack by the crab abon business. The crab abon processing business was efficient and feasible with an RCR value of 1.60, and an NPM value of 37.58%, meaning that for every IDR. 1,000,000 from the crab abon sales turnover, it was able to generate a net profit of IDR. 375,800, while the ROI value was 20.75%, which means that every IDR. 1,000,000 investment capitals will provide a net profit of IDR. 207,500. Conclusion: The average production of crab abon (Bonting Snack Kepiting) in a month was around 90 kg to meet consumption side dishes of costumers. Crab abon business is profitable that every IDR.1,000,000 investment capitals will provide a net profit of IDR. 207,500. The value of crab abon business is efficient, feasible and profitable, as well as having wide chance in the future. To support the residents through more measurable programs for the increase of fish consumption, crab abon can be alternative consumed product. Abstract

Background: Fish consumption preferences vary among communities. The issue of fish consumption achievement of East Kalimantan residents which has decreased compared to 2019 has encouraged the government to intensify programs, especially considering socio-economic factors for liking to consume fish. In this study, the issue of fish consumption is also associated with the residents’ knowledge of the benefits of fish nutritional content for health. Aims: This recent study aims to investigate the appreciation of East Kalimantan residents for the health of fish consumption benefits and to analyze factors which influence the fish consumption of East Kalimantan residents. Methods: Data collection was done through a questionnaire completed by 160 people in 10 regency and city sites in East Kalimantan with purposive random sampling method during January to March 2024. Also employing Multiple Linear Regression (MLR) is in data analysis. Results: Most of East Kalimantan residents (85%) appreciate the benefits of fish consumption for their health, even though there are still residents (15%) who lack information and knowledge about its benefits. The residents’ understanding and knowledge cover fish as a rich source of omega-3 fatty acids, high-quality protein, and related with reducing risk of heart disease, stroke, and certain types of cancer. The most residents (90%) approve that the fish protein content is of high quality of protein and vitamins-mineral. In the analysis, all variables that build this model have amounting to 82% (R2) affected into fish consumption residents. Partially, age, income, fish price, ethnic, education, and fish substitute variables significantly influence the fish consumption of East Kalimantan residents at p<0.05. Except, the status at the family variable, it has not influence partially to fish consumption of residents. Conclusion: Residents who understand and know of fish consumption benefit for health are high. The research findings indicate that various variables (age (X1), income (X2), fish price (X3), ethnic (D2), education (D3), and fish substitute (D4) variables) significantly influence the fish consumption of East Kalimantan residents. Hence, to stimulate awareness of fish consumption, the government has to support the residents through more measurable programs for the increase of fish consumption such as socializing the benefit of fish consumption for health and fish eating program. Abstract

Background: A profitability analysis is crucial for assessing a business’s ability to generate profit hence, business actors need to respond and make the increase in managing their businesses. If their business is survived they may to meet nutritional needs of the community besides significantly contribute to increasing family income. Aims: To analyze the profitability of a fresh fish stall business. Methods: Data collection of research was in July-September 2025, in Sebulu District, Kutai Karatenagara Regency. Samples as respondents were obtained using the purposive sampling method, specifically four respondents, considering that they have the largest businesses with five and more than 5 years, and operate continuously. They are the fresh fish stall traders. To analyze profitability, calculations of Net Profit Margin (NPM), Return on Investment (RoI), Payback Period (PP), and business efficiency (RCR or Benefit Cost Ratio) were used. Results: The findings reveal that the business achieved a profitability rate of 19.10% for NPM, 29.2% for ROI, and a payback period of 0.59 years. Conclusion: The fresh fish stall business generates a relatively good profit and has the potential to sustain its operations to meet nutritional needs for health. Furthermore, the business efficiency analysis indicates an R/C ratio value of 1.24, signifying that the business is efficient, as an R/C ratio value greater than 1 denotes efficiency.
