Abstract

Resistance of Several Hibiscus cannabinus genotypes Against Meloidogyne incognita Kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus) is known as a source of natural fibers. Infection of Meloidogyne incognita (root-knot nematode) in kenaf plants causes stunting of plants, thereby reducing crop production. This study aimed to determine the resistance of seven kenaf genotypes against M. incognita. The experiment was conducted by infesting kenaf plants aged 15 days after planting (DAP) with M. incognita in a population of 40 juvenile nematodes 2 per 100 g of soil. The planting medium used was sandy soil with a composition of 55% sand, 36% dust, and 17% clay. The resistance variable consisted of root knot index and nematode reproduction factors. Analysis of salicylic acid, phenol, lignin and several plant growth variables were carried out at 75 DAP. Among the seven kenaf plant genotypes evaluated, there were 3 tolerant genotypes (KR4, KR15 and KR5) and 4 highly susceptible genotypes (KR1, KR6, Kin2, and DS028). Genotypes that had a tolerant response to M. incognita showed an increase in phenolic compounds, salicylic acid, and lignin in the roots compared to the control. The decrease in plant height, crown fresh weight, and root fresh weight varied due to M. incognita infection.

Abstract

Untuk mendukung pengembangan suatu komoditas, diperlukan varietas-varietas unggul berdaya hasil tinggi. Kegiatan penelitian uji daya hasil aksesi-aksesi plasma nutfah rosela herbal telah dilakukan di Muktiharjo, Kabupaten Pati mulai bulan Januari–Juni 2011. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mendapatkan beberapa aksesi unggul yang berpotensi tinggi di lahan kering. Sebanyak 25 aksesi plasma nutfah diuji daya hasilnya dengan rancangan acak kelompok (RAK) diulang dua kali. Benih ditanam dengan jarak tanam 100 cm x 50 cm pada plot berukuran 10 m x 5 m. Pemupukan dan pemeliharaan lainnya sesuai dengan standar budi daya untuk tanaman rosela herbal. Parameter pengamatan terdiri atas: jumlah kapsul per tanaman, bobot 100 kelopak kering, produksi kapsul segar, produksi kelopak segar, dan produksi kelopak kering per hektar. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa produktivitas tertinggi dicapai oleh delapan aksesi yaitu 677, 675, 679, 681, 682, 684, 689, dan 671, dengan produksi kelopak kering masing-masing sebesar: 676,0; 605,5; 540,0; 463,5; 427,5; 385,5; 420,0; dan 414,0 kg/ha. Ada korelasi positif yang sangat nyata pada karakter jumlah kapsul per tanaman dengan produksi kapsul per hektar, produksi kelopak segar per hektar dan produksi kelopak kering per hektar dengan nilai korelasi masing-masing sebesar 0,725; 0,617; dan 0,584. Korelasi yang sangat nyata juga terdapat pada karakter produksi kapsul dengan produksi kelopak segar dan kelopak kering, karakter produksi kelopak segar dengan produksi kelopak kering per ha, serta bobot 100 kelopak kering dengan produksi kelopak kering per ha dengan nilai korelasi masing-masing: 0,978; 0,907; 0,939; dan 0,502.To support herbal roselle development in the future, the availability of new high-yield varieties were required. Screening of 25 herbal roselle accessions have been carried out on dry land Muktiharjo, Pati District started in January–June 2011. The purpose of this study was to obtain some superior high-potential accessions suitable for dry land. The screening used a randomized block design (RBD) with two replicates. Seeds were planted with a spacing of 100 cm x 50 cm on a plot measuring 10 m x 5 m. Fertilizing and other maintenance in accordance with the standards for the cultivation of herbal roselle plant. Parameter observed consist of number of capsules per plant, weight of 100 dry petals, fresh capsule production, fresh petals production, and dried petals production per hectare. The results showed that eight accessions consistently showed productivity of dried roselle calyx higher than two varieties used as a control. Those accessions were no: 677, 679, 675, 681, 682, 684, 689, and 671, with the production of dried petals ranged between 385–676 kg/ha. There is a positive correlation between the number of capsules per plant with a production of capsules per hectare, production per hectare of fresh petals and dried petals, production per hectare with a correlation value 0.725, 0.617, and 0.584, respectively. A significant correlation was also found in the character of capsule production with the production of fresh petals and dried petals, the fresh petals production with the production of dried petals per hectare, and weights of 100 petals dried with dried petals production per hectare by correlation values: 0.978, 0.907, 0.939, and 0.502, respectively

Abstract

Tanaman yute di Indonesia memiliki prospek dan peluang yang baik untuk dijadikan bahan baku industri karung goni, pulp dan kertas. Benih yute masih memiliki perkecambahan yang rendah karena secara morfologi memiliki kulit biji yang keras dan masa dormansi yang panjang. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memberikan informasi mengenai teknik pematahan dormansi benih untuk meningkatkan daya berkecambah benih yute. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap faktorial. Faktor pertama terdiri atas aksesi benih yute (2005 dan 2006), faktor kedua terdiri atas media perkecambahan (kertas merang dan pasir), dan faktor ketiga terdiri atas perlakuan perendaman benih (tanpa perendaman, perendaman air suhu 80oC selama 1 jam, perendaman air suhu 80oC selama 2 jam, perendaman air suhu 80oC selama 3 jam, perendaman air suhu 27oC selama 12 jam, perendaman air suhu 27oC selama 20 jam dan perendaman air suhu 27oC selama 25 jam). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa interaksi antara aksesi benih, media perkecambahan dan perlakuan benih memberikan pengaruh yang nyata terhadap persentase daya berkecambah, persentase benih keras dan panjang akar. Benih yute 2006 yang direndam air suhu 80ºC sampai dingin selama 3 jam dan dikecambahkan pada media kertas merang memiliki persentase keserempakan tumbuh terbaik (90,5%), daya berkecambah (90,1%), benih keras terendah (8,75%), tinggi plumula (3,88 cm) dan panjang radikula terbaik (3.89 cm). Persentase keserempakan tumbuh, daya berkecambah, persentase benih keras dan tinggi plumula tidak berbeda nyata antara dua aksesi benih yute. Perendaman benih dengan air suhu 80ºC sampai dingin selama 3 jam dan dikecambahkan pada media kertas merang mampu mematahkan dormansi dan meningkatkan daya berkecambah dua aksesi benih yute.The Techniques of Dormancy Breaking to Increase Seed Viability of Jute (Corchorus olitorius L.)Jute plants in Indonesia have prospects and opportunities to be used as raw materials for pulp and paper sack industries. Jute seeds have a low germination because they have hard seed shells and long dormancy periods. This study aims to determine the dormancy seed breaking technique to increase the germination level of jute seeds. The research method used a factorial completely randomized design. The first factor consisted of jute seed harvest in 2006 and 2005, the second factor consisted of germination media (paper and sand), and the third factor consisted of the treatment of seeds soaking (without soaking, soaking in 80oC water for 1 hour, in 80oC water for 2 hours, in 80oC water for 3 hours, in 27oC water for 12 hours, in 27oC water for 20 hours and in 27oC water for 25 hours). The results showed that the interaction between three factors gave a significant effect on the percentage of germination, percentage of hard seed and root length. The jute seed harvest in 2006 were soaked in 80ºC water for 3 hours and were germinated on paper media showed the best simultaneous growth percentage (90%), germination (90%), lowest hard seed (9%), plumula length (3.88 cm) and the longest radical length (3.89 cm). Those parameters were not significantly different between the two jute accessions.  Soaking the seeds in 80oC water for 3 hours and then germinate the seeds on paper could break the seed dormancy and increase the germination.

Abstract

Kenaf termasuk tanaman semusim yang memiliki struktur benih yang relatif keras dan sangat berpengaruh terhadap viabilitas benih. Viabilitas benih dapat dihambat oleh adanya kemampuan benih untuk menunda perkecambahan, yaitu mempunyai sifat dormansi. Beberapa teknik pematahan dormansi dapat dilakukan untuk membantu perkecambahan benih yang disebabkan oleh kondisi fisik maupun fisiologis benih. Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu untuk menguji pengaruh antara teknik pematahan dormansi pada dua aksesi benih terhadap peningkatan daya berkecambah benih kenaf. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan Maret sampai Mei 2017. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan acak kelompok lengkap faktorial. Faktor pertama adalah aksesi benih yang terdiri dari dua aksesi yaitu ACC 322 dan ACC 1301, sedangkan faktor kedua adalah teknik pematahan dormansi yang terdiri atas 10 perlakuan yaitu perendaman air suhu 90ºC selama 3 menit, perendaman air suhu 90ºC selama 5 menit, perendaman air suhu 27ºC selama 12 jam, perendaman air suhu 27ºC selama 16 jam, pemotongan pada salah satu sisi benih, pemanasan benih dalam oven 80ºC selama 10 menit, pemanasan benih dalam oven 80ºC selama 20 menit, perendaman 98% H2SO4 selama 10 menit, perendaman 98% H2SO4 selama 15 menit dan kontrol. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan perlakuan pemotongan pada salah satu sisi benih dapat meningkatkan persentase daya berkecambah hingga >90% dan merupakan teknik pematahan dormansi yang mampu meningkatkan daya berkecambah pada dua aksesi benih kenaf. Techniques of Dormancy Breaking in Two Kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus L.) Accessions t o Increase Seed Germination ABSTRACTKenaf is a seasonal plant that has a relatively hard seed structure and greatly affects the viability of the seed. The viability of seeds can be inhibited by the ability of seeds to delay germination, which has dormancy character.  Some dormancy breaking techniques can be done to help seed germination caused by physical and physiological conditions of the seed. The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of dormancy breaking techniques on some seed accessions on increasing the germination of kenaf seeds. This study was conducted from March to May 2017. This research method used a factorial completely randomized block design. The first factor was the accession of seeds consisting of two accessions ie ACC 322 and ACC 1301, while the second factor was dormancy breaking technique consisting of 10 treatments ie. soaking in 90ºC water for 3 minutes, in 90ºC water for 5 minutes, soaking in 27ºC water for 12 hours, soaking in water 27ºC for 16 hours, seed cutting, seed heating in oven 80ºC for 10 minutes, seed heating in oven 80ºC for 20 minutes, soaking in 98% H2SO4 for 10 minutes, soaking in 98% H2SO4 for 15 minutes and control. The results showed that the cutting treatment on one side of the seed can increase the percentage of germination power up to >90% and is a dormancy breaking technique that can increase germination on two accessions of kenaf seeds.

Abstract

Benih kenaf memiliki karakter kulit keras sehingga benih mengalami dormansi fisik yang mempengaruhi perkecambahan dan mutu benih. Salah satu teknik untuk meningkatkan mutu benih kenaf dapat dilakukan melalui perlakuan seed priming (perendaman benih). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi pengaruh teknologi seed priming terhadap peningkatan mutu fisiologis benih kenaf. Penelitian dilaksanakan di Laboratorium Benih Balai Penelitian Tanaman Pemanis dan Serat pada bulan Januari – Maret 2020. Metode penelitian menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap faktorial. Faktor Pertama yaitu perlakuan seed priming yang terdiri atas 8 taraf yaitu aquades; KNO3 0,1%; KNO3 0,2%; KNO3 0,3%; GA3 50 ppm; GA3 100 ppm; GA3 150 ppm dan GA3 200 ppm. Faktor kedua adalah lama perendaman benih yang terdiri atas 3 taraf yaitu 3 jam, 6 jam dan 9 jam. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat interaksi antara perlakuan seed priming dengan lama perendaman benih untuk parameter persentase daya berkecambah, potensi tumbuh maksimum, bobot kering kecambah normal, indeks vigor, kecepatan tumbuh dan keserempakan tumbuh. Perendaman benih dengan GA3 50 ppm selama 3 jam menunjukkan hasil terbaik untuk parameter persentase daya bercambah (99%), potensi tumbuh maksimum (100%), bobot kering kecambah normal (0,63 g), indeks vigor (86,5%), kecepatan tumbuh (45%KN/etmal) dan keserempakan tumbuh (98%) dibandingkan dengan perlakuan lainnya. One technique for improving the quality of kenaf seeds can be done through seed priming treatment. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of seed priming on increasing of the physiological quality of kenaf seeds. The research was conducted in the seed laboratory of The Indonesian Sweeteners and Fiber Crops Research Institute during January to March 2020. The research method used factorial in completely randomized design. The first factor was the seed priming treatment consisted of 8 treatments, namely aquades; KNO3 0.1%; KNO3 0.2%; KNO3 0.3%; GA3 50 ppm; GA3 100 ppm; GA3 150 ppm and GA3 200 ppm. The second factor was the time of seed priming consisted of 3 treatments, namely 3 hours; 6 hours and 9 hours. The results showed that the interaction between seed priming treatment with seed soaking time for the parameters of the percentage of germination, maximum growth potential, dry weight of normal seedling, vigor index, growth simultaneous and growth speed. The treatment of GA3 50 ppm for 3 hours showed the best result for the percentage of germination (99%), maximum growth potential (100%), dry weight of normal seedling (0.63 g), vigor index (86.5%), growth speed (45 %KN/etmal) and growth simultaneous compared to other treatments (98%) compare to other treatments. Seed priming treatment with GA3 50 ppm for 3 hours can increase the seed physiological quality of kenaf.

Abstract

Kenaf termasuk tanaman semusim yang memiliki struktur benih yang relatif keras dan sangat berpengaruh terhadap viabilitas benih. Viabilitas benih dapat dihambat oleh adanya kemampuan benih untuk menunda perkecambahan, yaitu mempunyai sifat dormansi. Beberapa teknik pematahan dormansi dapat dilakukan untuk membantu perkecambahan benih yang disebabkan oleh kondisi fisik maupun fisiologis benih. Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu untuk menguji pengaruh antara teknik pematahan dormansi pada dua aksesi benih terhadap peningkatan daya berkecambah benih kenaf. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan Maret sampai Mei 2017. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan acak kelompok lengkap faktorial. Faktor pertama adalah aksesi benih yang terdiri dari dua aksesi yaitu ACC 322 dan ACC 1301, sedangkan faktor kedua adalah teknik pematahan dormansi yang terdiri atas 10 perlakuan yaitu perendaman air suhu 90ºC selama 3 menit, perendaman air suhu 90ºC selama 5 menit, perendaman air suhu 27ºC selama 12 jam, perendaman air suhu 27ºC selama 16 jam, pemotongan pada salah satu sisi benih, pemanasan benih dalam oven 80ºC selama 10 menit, pemanasan benih dalam oven 80ºC selama 20 menit, perendaman 98% H2SO4 selama 10 menit, perendaman 98% H2SO4 selama 15 menit dan kontrol. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan perlakuan pemotongan pada salah satu sisi benih dapat meningkatkan persentase daya berkecambah hingga >90% dan merupakan teknik pematahan dormansi yang mampu meningkatkan daya berkecambah pada dua aksesi benih kenaf. Techniques of Dormancy Breaking in Two Kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus L.) Accessions t o Increase Seed Germination ABSTRACTKenaf is a seasonal plant that has a relatively hard seed structure and greatly affects the viability of the seed. The viability of seeds can be inhibited by the ability of seeds to delay germination, which has dormancy character.  Some dormancy breaking techniques can be done to help seed germination caused by physical and physiological conditions of the seed. The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of dormancy breaking techniques on some seed accessions on increasing the germination of kenaf seeds. This study was conducted from March to May 2017. This research method used a factorial completely randomized block design. The first factor was the accession of seeds consisting of two accessions ie ACC 322 and ACC 1301, while the second factor was dormancy breaking technique consisting of 10 treatments ie. soaking in 90ºC water for 3 minutes, in 90ºC water for 5 minutes, soaking in 27ºC water for 12 hours, soaking in water 27ºC for 16 hours, seed cutting, seed heating in oven 80ºC for 10 minutes, seed heating in oven 80ºC for 20 minutes, soaking in 98% H2SO4 for 10 minutes, soaking in 98% H2SO4 for 15 minutes and control. The results showed that the cutting treatment on one side of the seed can increase the percentage of germination power up to >90% and is a dormancy breaking technique that can increase germination on two accessions of kenaf seeds.

Abstract

Background: Agave is known as one of the natural fiber-producing plants that have many benefits. Agave plants can grow well on dry land, however, many organisms can damage agave crops in the field. One of the agave plant is Shoot Borers Beetle Pest of Coconut (Oryctes rhinoceros L). The purpose of this research is to get information about variation damage of agave germ plasma to Shoot Borers Beetle Pest of Coconut (Oryctes rhinoceros L). Methods: The research was conducted at the Agave balittas collection in the Experimental Garden Balittas Karangploso. Observation of shoot borers beetle pest of coconut (Oryctes rhinoceros L.) was carried out on 6 plants. Observations were made by calculating the number of holes that were found on the leaves. Results: The results showed that the investment of Shoot Borers Beetle Pest of Coconut (Oryctes rhinoceros L) causing damage to agave germplasm varies. The average percentage of damage to Agave angustifolia and Agave cantala in 2017 due to the investment in Shoot Borers Beetle Pest of Coconut (Oryctes rhinoceros L) is range from 66.7 to 100%. The average damage caused by Shoot Borers Beetle Pest of Coconut (Oryctes rhinoceros L) investment in Agave sisalana ranges from 0 to 16.7%. Conclusions: The investment of shoot borers beetle pest of coconut in agave plants has a big impact on decreasing crop production and fiber quality.
