Abstract

Food experience is now omnipresent with the increased use of social media such as Instagram. Users often share food images or video which is often accompanied with #hashtags. Readers of the post are required to tap into their visual cognition and perception of what it represents. Little exploration has been done to understand if image can simulate food taste and how similar is the perception after user tasted the food. We were motivated to understand the difference of food taste perception on digital image and its true form by studying user hashtags. We applied the case study approach where we focused on a Malaysian dessert to compare user perception of the cakes’ dimension which are appearance, flavour, texture and hedonic. Using Instagram, users were requested to create hashtags that depict their taste perception of the cakes before and after tasting the cake. The hashtags were then analysed using content analysis where we found that the perception on digital image and true form had a degree of difference where many of the initial perception were inaccurate. This implies that visual images may not be able to facilitate accurate food taste perception and would need further technology interactivity to achieve the objective.

Abstract

Navigating safely in the real environment especially in the outdoor setting requires a blind person to be equipped with the spatial knowledge and possess the skills in mobility and orientation. The aims of this study are to investigate the existing wayfinding learning techniques taught to blind people and to identify the challenges during the teaching and learning processes. A two days of observation during a mobility practical session was conducted at Malaysian Association for the Blind (MAB). The first objective was to explore the current techniques used by mobility instructor to teach visually impaired students for a wayfinding and second, to identify the challenges faced by the mobility instructor and the visually impaired students in the teaching and learning processes of wayfinding. The study discovered that the major problem faced by the mobility instructor was with the lack of teaching aids to describe a new environment to visually impaired students. This leads to the lack of time that caused the visually impaired students perceived insufficient information which was hard for them to construct the intended cognitive maps. From the findings, this paper concludes by discussing the recommendations primarily on the use of technology in addressing the problems identified in this study.

Abstract

The involvement of the elderly in the activities is low compare to younger adult due to their frailty. This paper presents intrinsic motivations for productive ageing where it highlights the factors that motivate the elderly to participate in the activities. There are thirteen elderly respondents came from the people in the urban Klang Valley. The qualitative data analysis approach is used in this study. There are five intrinsic factors, which, consist of Autonomy, Competence, Relatedness, Curiosity and Altruism that motivate the participation of the elderly in volunteering, caregiving and self-development activities in this study. This research focuses on activities that resulted intrinsic values and not on monetary value like most of past researchers. Intrinsic motivation features are significant features in ICT as the identification of the ICT features is based on motivation to use the ICT.

Abstract

HCD is an approach that covers all of the human aspects including aesthetic and ergonomics, which will provide a better approach in strengthening the HCI approaches to strengthen the software development process. Lack of guidelines to guide the software practitioners to adopt the HCD in software development process become the main concern in this study. Among the problems that faced by the organizations that have adopted HCD, including problem of managing the resources such as human, financial and infrastructure. Therefore, this study used a theoretical lens to get a better understanding of HCD integration form management perspective, namely operational, tactical (management) and strategy perspective in software development process. Furthermore, the HCDP model is employed in this study because it covers the HCD activities from the project planning stage to the implementation stage of the software development process and it emphasizes on the larger scope of human factors and require broader skills in software development process. As a result, a conceptual model of HCD integration has been developed which emphasizes on the importance of managing the resources and long term strategic planning for the organization.  This is due to long term strategic planning and managing organization resources appropriately will contribute to the success of the organization which will increase organizational performance.

Abstract

Intrinsic values associated with ICT services activities in productive ageing. Given the advances made in ICT services that have been widely used, elderlies need to be equipped with the knowledge in using the services. The lack of ICT usage among elderlies is because of the low motivation to use the ICT applications. This in turn could be due to the lack of intrinsic values associated with the use of ICT applications among elderlies. This study explores further the features of ICT services needed to support intrinsic values activities. Brainstorming sessions is conducted in this study where it involved six ICT experts in order to identify ICT services features to support intrinsic value activities. Intrinsic motivation features are significant features in ICT services to support intrinsic value activities for productive ageing. There are five intrinsic motivation features identified in this research, which are autonomy, competence, relatedness, altruism and curiosity. The ICT services to support intrinsic value activities model comprises of the ICT services characteristics that are transactive, community-based with online communication channels, and incorporated with intelligent agents.
