Abstract

Curcumin has low solubility in water and has low stability so that a drug delivery system is needed that can overcome these problems. One delivery system that can be used to overcome these problems is transethosome. Transethosome is composed of several component, one of them is surfactant. Surfactant is a component that can help improve the stability of the transethosome system so that in this study research was conducted on the eff ect of the use of a combination of surfactants (tween 60 and span 60) on the physical stability of transethosome curcumin. In this study used a combination of tween 60 and span 60 with a ratio of 1: 2, 1: 1, 2: 1 at a concentration of 5%. Transethosome formed then characterized include organoleptic, viscosity, particle size and particle size distribution, zeta potential, adsorption effi ciency and pH. Transethosome characteristics were observed for 8 weeks to see the physical stability of the transethosome. The results at week 0 indicate that the transethosome formed a suspension with orange color and smelled of phosphatidylcholine with the highest viscosity in formula 3, has a particle size of 1-1000 nm, polydispersity 0-0.571, has a negative zeta potential value, has an absorption effi ciency above 80 % and pH 8.5-10.0. Physical stability test results show the use of a combination of tween 60 and span 60 with rasio 3:1 (F3) can improve the physical stability of transethosome curcumin.

Abstract

Mucoadhesive is a bioadhesive dosage form which forms a bond with mucous membranes. Mucoadhesive dosage forms stayed on mucous membranes in prolonged time so can increase bioavailability. This study intended to determine the effect of sodium alginate as bioadhesive polymer to mucoadhesive strength of granules. The granules prepared using amoxicillin as active agent and sodium alginate as bioadhesive polymer by wet granulation method. Granule evaluation are moisture content, particle size, wash off test using rat stomach and dissolution test. Test results of total recovery F1, F2, F3, F4, F5, 540 mg, 560 mg, 580 mg, 600 mg, 620 mg. Test results of flow rate 10,78-11,75 g/second, and angle of repose 33,50-35,15°, test of particle size distribution in the range of 1410-1680 µm, moisture content from 11.07 to 13.57%, wash off test of F1, F2, F3, F4 and F5 as consecutively 12.67, 14.00, 18.67, 26.00 and 33.33%. 2-way ANOVA test to % dissolution and wash-off test results sig. <0.05, so there is a significant difference between formulas. Based on the results showed that increasing concentration of sodium alginate increase mucoadhesive strength of granules but less able to resist of drug release, and the best formula is F3 that containing sodium alginate 580 mg.

Abstract

J Bengkuang (Pachyrhizus erosus) mempunyai potensi sebagai antioksidan alami karena memiliki kandungan vitamin, protein dan flavonoid. Kubis ungu (Brassica oleracea var. sylvestris) juga mempunyai potensi sebagai antioksidan alami karena memiliki kandungan antosianin yang tinggi dan berbagai vitamin. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membuat sediaan kosmetik yang praktis yaitu dalam sediaan face mist dan menguji aktivitas antioksidan dari kombinasi ekstrak kubis ungu. Aktivitas antioksidan dari ekstrak kubis ungu dan ekstrak bengkuang dievaluasi secara kuantitatif menggunakan metode DPPH yang diuji dengan metode spektroskopi. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa ekstrak kubis ungu positif mengandung flavonoid, saponin, triterpenoid, tannin dan polifenol sedangkan esktrak bengkuang positif mengandung flavonoid, saponin dan alkaloid serta kombinasi ekstrak kubis ungu dan ekstrak bengkoang mempunyai aktivitas antioksidan dengan % inhibisi rata-rata 56%. Dari hasil evaluasi sediaan diperoleh pH 4,5 dan bobot jenis 1,0357 g/ml. Kesimpulan penelitian ini adalah kombinasi ekstrak kubis ungu dan bengkuang mempunyai aktivitas antioksidan.
