Abstract

Background: In the era of the COVID-19 pandemic, the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is very important to reduce the risk of transmitting infectious diseases to medical personnel because it can prevent contact with pathogens. This shows that midwives as first-line managers of pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum cases must be vigilant by wearing complete Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) so that there is no transmission of the virus from the patient to the midwife. Objective: To determine the analysis of midwives' practices in using PPE when assisting labor during the COVID-19 pandemic at the Banten Regional General Hospital 2020-2021. Methodology: A quantitative analytic study using a cross sectional approach. The sample in this study was 102 respondents with purposive sampling technique. Data were analyzed using SPSS with Chi Square, which previously tested the validity and reliability. Results: The use of PPE in midwives in Banten Hospital obtained an average value of 84.3. Based on age, the average value was 53.9. Based on the length of service, the average score was 96.1. Based on education, the average score is 55.9. The results of the chi-square test showed that all independent variables had no relationship with the use of PPE including knowledge (p = 0.323), attitude (p = 0.665), availability of PPE (p = 0.740), and supervision (p = 0.603). Conclusions and Suggestions: The use of PPE in midwives has no relationship with knowledge, attitudes, availability of PPE and supervision. There is a need for socialization about the importance of using PPE to midwives in order to maintain the quality of expected care services. There is a need for an K3 unit in Banten Hospital which is one of the authorities. There needs to be special attention from the Hospital Management regarding the supervision of the use of PPE in midwives.

Abstract

Based on data in Indonesia, the comparison of the incidence of nausea and vomiting leading to pathological or hyperemesis gravidarum is 4: 1000 pregnancies. It is estimated that 50% to 80% of pregnant women experience nausea and vomiting and approximately 5% of pregnant women require treatment for fluid replacement and correction of electrolyte imbalances. The occurrence of pregnancy causes hormonal changes in women because there is an increase in the hormones estrogen, progesterone, and the release of the placental chorionic gonadothropine (HCG) hormone. This study aimed to determine the effect of ginger decoction on the frequency of emesis gravidarum in the first trimester. The design used was a quasi-experimental design. The location of this study was carried out at PMB R. Agustina on July 29, 2021 to August 8, 2021. In this study, the number of samples taken by pregnant women who were experiencing emesis gravidarum were 15 experimental groups and 15 total control groups 30. Independent variable was the ginger decoction, and dependent Variable was emesis gravidarum in first trimester among pregnant women. Research instruments can be in the form of a questionnaire (a list of questions), an observation form. Using the Mann Whitney Test. The results showed that the emesis gravidarum before being given ginger boiled water was 9.07 after being given ginger boiled water was 5.27, it was known that the emesis gravidarum before the control was 8.20 after the control was 6.47. There was an Effect of Giving Ginger decoction on Emesis Gravidarum in Pregnant Women TM 1 (p-value 0.001). It is hoped that it can increase public knowledge and is expected to be useful for respondents in knowing about the effect of ginger drink on reducing the frequency of emesis gravidarium in first trimester pregnant women.

Abstract

Individuals most at risk of infection are those who are in close contact with COVID 19 patients, such as midwives who run Independent Practices. Midwives can protect themselves when providing care by complying with infection prevention and control practices that include proper administrative, environmental and engineering control and use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (i.e. appropriate in the selection of the appropriate type of PPE, how it is used, how to release and how to dispose or wash PPE). So researchers are interested in researching the factors that affect the behavior of the use of PPE in health workers. This study aimed to analyze factors that can affect the behavior of PPE use among midwives. This type of research was observational analytical research methods. The population in this study was 87 midwives. The study was conducted in Sambas Regency in July-August 2021. This research instrument was a questionnaire. The results of the study showed there was relationship between knowledge (p-value 0.395), and education level (p-value 0.103) with compliance, there was a relationship of working life (p-value 0.000) and availability of PPE (p-value 0.001) With Compliance of Using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in Sambas Regency In 2021. It is expected to be the basis and guideline to conduct further research related to the behavior of using PPE while working on midwives in health care facilities in Indonesia.
