Abstract

This research is aimed to analyze teachers and students respond in teaching listening skills to the Tenth Grade Students using a scientific approach with learning English podcast applications. This research uses qualitative descriptive, this research is purposed to collect the data both qualitative and quantitative approaches. questionnaires and Interviews. it was done in tenth-grade consist of 21 students in senior high school. The result shows that from two indicators are attention and relevance, from these indicators show that, most of the students respond stated agree in the indicators attention with percentage 471.4% with the number of frequencies 99 and for indicators relevance, most students stated neutral with percentage 228.6% with total frequency 48. Also, teacher responses show that students are quite enthusiastic and it is quite an effective way to teach listening. From this research, it can conclude most of the students choose to agree, that the use of podcast make students have a high motivation to the learn, improve retention, easy to understand the material, avoid the wrong concept, it is not boring, and improve listening comprehension, additionally teacher agree that podcast can make students quite enthusiastic during the learning activity. must include an abstract of 200 words or fewer. Keywords:  Listening skill, podcast, respond, Motivation

Abstract

ABSTRAKPendidikan bahasa Inggris diberikan di Indonesia kepada siswa diawali dari tingkat Sekolah Dasar hingga Perguruan Tinggi. Karena karakteristik anak-anak sebagai pembelajar berbahasa berbeda dan unik dibandingkan dengan pembelajar dewasa sehingga dibutuhkan metode yang berbeda. Level pendidikan di Desa Jalancagak, Subang yang masih belum merata membutuhkan penyegaran metode pembelajaran, terutama terkait dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris Pengabdian kepada masyarakat yang berjudul “Penerapan metode TPR untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara dan kreativitas siswa” ini bertujuan untuk memberikan wawasan pengetahuan kepada para guru TK tentang penerapan metode TPR serta memberikan bekal kemampuan untuk mengajar pada anak usia sekolah dasar. Metode TPR (Total Physical Response) merupakan suatu metode pembelajaran bahasa yang disusun pada koordinasi perintah (command), ucapan (speech) dan gerak (action); dan berusaha untuk mengajarkan bahasa melalui aktivitas fisik (motor). Penyampaian materi pengabdian antara lain meliputi pengertian, manfaat, implementasi dan adaptasi dari metode TPR. Diharapkan para guru bisa menerapkan metode ini dalam kegiatan belajar mengajar sehingga bisa meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara dan kreativitas siswa sekaligus memberikan pengetahuan terkait metode mengajar baik secara konvensional maupun menggunakan teknologi.Kata kunci: TPR, bahasa, kreativitas, siswaABSTRACTEnglish education is given to students in Indonesia starting at the elementary school level to university level. However, the characteristics of children as language learners are different and unique compared to adult learners therefore different methods are needed. The level of education in Jalancagak, Subang Village which is still uneven requires a refresher in learning methods, especially related to learning English. Community service entitled "The application of the TPR method to improve the ability to speak and creativity of students" aims to provide insight into kindergarten teachers about the application of TPR methods and provide the ability to teach primary school age children. The TPR (Total Physical Response) method is a method of language learning that is structured in the coordination of commands, speeches and actions; and trying to teach language through physical activity (motoric). The materials that were delievered regarding to the understanding, benefits, implementation and adaptation of the TPR method. It is hoped that teachers can apply this method in teaching and learning activities so as to improve students' speaking abilities and creativity while providing knowledge related to teaching methods both conventionally and using technology.Keywords : TPR, language, creativity, students

Abstract

Characteristics compared to those who are more mature. They generally have a high curiosity but low attention span therefore different learning methods and techniques are needed. With the development of technology, more technology-based learning techniques are being implemented. The level of education in Desa Jalancagak Subang, which is still uneven, requires refreshing learning methods, especially related to learning English. Community service entitled "Application of Kahoot interactive quiz media to improve students speaking skill in Subang village” aims to provide insight into the knowledge of teachers related to Kahoot learning media and image media which are expected to help develop students' creativity and speaking skills and skills add to the nuances of teaching activities both conventionally and more modern.

Abstract

Tingkat kesadaran mengenai pendidikan secara umum dan kemampuan berbahasa Inggris yang masih rendah, menyebabkan para guru Bahasa Inggris merasa kesulitan dalam menyampaikan materi. Kurangnya inovasi serta sulitnya sarana dan prasarana menyebabkan kreativitas guru terhambat. Berdasarkan penjelasan diatas, berikut ini merupakan beberapa masalah yang dapat diidentifikasi: 1) pembelajaran bahasa Inggris yang masih berjalan kurang efektif 2) Guru membutuhkan inovasi pembelajaran baru. Metode yang dilaksanakan dalam kegiatan  pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah seminar kepada para guru dengan menggunakan optimalisasi penggunaan internet, terutama media gambar dan worksheet. Materi yang diberikan meliputi : 1) penggunaan media gambar pada tingkatan sekolah SD,SMP dan SMA , 2) penggunaan worksheet dan internet. Berdasarkan penjelasan tersebut tim kami mengadakan kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat dengan judul ‘Penggunaan internet sebagai optimalisasi instructional media pembelajaran bahasa Inggris”. Hasil dari kegiatan tersebut berjalan dengan baik. Diharapkan para guru dapat meningkatkan potensi dalam mengajar dengan terus banyak berlatih, terutama terkait teknologi.

Abstract

In the era of modern technology and popular culture, some fans appreciated literature by writing fanfiction. As stated by Lee (2011) it is called celebration of the media content. This aimed to describe the similarities and the dissimilarities between “Mulan” movie script and “Mugunghwa” fanfiction. The writer compared the elements by its intrinsic value based on Mufidah’s (2011). In this research the writer used qualitative method and descriptive analysis. The aspects to be analyzed were intrinsic value in general manner of the theme, character, characterization, plot, setting, point of view and style. The similarities found were the plot, point of view and characters whereas the dissimilarities were the theme, the setting and also the writing style.

Abstract

Gender roles are an important part of culture. How the genders are portrayed in the literature contributes to the image young adults develops of their gender roles and the role of gender in the social order. This research entitled  “Cinderella VS Timun Mas : Exploring gender stereotypes and culture as learning materials purposes” aimed to analyze the content of both “Cinderella” and “Timun Mas” which cover: 1. Occupations and Gender Stereotypes; 2 Centrality of Female and Male Characters; 3. Culture Content ; and 4 Suitability as learning material purposes. This research is a qualitative study using content analysis. It was carried out with procedures: collecting, analyzing, and presenting data. Based on research questions it is revealed that for occupation and gender types showed that “Timun mas” has varieties of gender with 66,67% reference whereas “Cinderella” only has 50% references. For the centrality of male and female character, “Cinderella’ has more varieties in 37,5% male and 62,5% female whereas in “Timun Mas” showed 50% for both genders”. For the cultural content, in “Timun Mas” the cultural content found was 60% and in “Cinderella” was 80%. And the suitability to be used as learning materials showed that “Timun Mas” checked with 16 points whereas “Cinderella” checked with 20 points. It can be concluded that both can be used as authentic learning materials for gender references, but “Cinderella” has more varieties and cultural content compared to “Timun Mas”.

Abstract

AbstractThe aim of the study "The study of the use of popular novels to improve reading interest and English proficiency" is to find out how teachers, parents and students views on popular novels especially KKPK and Teen Lit novels. KKPK and Teen-Lit novels are easily available anywhere and favored by children and adolescents are interesting topic to study The research method is descriptive qualitative. The results show that the novels have many positive impacts. In terms of language, help to develop language and vocabulary. In terms of emotions, help to develop emotional intelligence. In terms of English, help students to learn the structure of sentences and apply them in social media. To increase reading interest, any subject of reading will be better for students while performed it regularly with parents or teachers, without any disruption such as gadgets or television.    Keywords: KKPK, teen-lit,novels, reading interest, English proficiency

Abstract

The quality of learning in general at SMK PGRI 2 Cimahi based on the results of discussions with the English teacher is that in general they have enough enthusiasm to learn English, but learning is still fixated on learning resource media in the form of worksheets. Thus they are more focused on the results of working on worksheets. The development of information and communication technology has brought enormous changes to the advancement of the world of education. The form of the development of information technology applied in the world of education is E-Learning. One of the platforms that can be used as an interactive learning medium is Schoology. The use of Schoology media requires students to always be connected to the internet network. Positive supervision from teachers and parents is expected so that students do not access things that are negative in nature. Therefore, the community service activity entitled "Schoology Implementation Training Activities in Teaching and Learning to improve the skills and ethics of high school students using ICT" is to provide socialization related to the use of Schoology for teachers as well as socializing ethics on the internet for students. This activity was carried out on January 22-24, 2021 which was carried out online because of the Covid-19 PSBB. One of the indicators that can be measured is that seen from this activity, teachers and students can use Schoology applications well and students can communicate according to the principle of netiquette (internet etiquette). Therefore we declared that this community service activity was deemed as successful.

Abstract

The Covid-19 virus epidemic has forced the entire learning structure in educational institutions to be shifted to online learning methods, presenting new challenges to Indonesia's education system. Students experience several changes as a result of the stopping of the learning process directly which has an impact on their motivation to learn. One of the most critical criteria for a good learning process is desire to learn English. One of the variables that has a huge effect on students' enthusiasm for learning is their motivation to learn English. As (Makki & Abid, 2017) said that Intrinsic (internal) motivation and Extrinsic (external) motivation are two terms that can be used to describe motivation. The first motivation is from themselves (intrinsic) and the second is motivation from outside (ekstrinsic), such as people outside the student  (teachers, friends, family) or the situation and conditions of the student's environment. Self-motivation or intrinsic motivation is very influential in their learning process. Students who are highly motivated and have a great desire to learn will excel in achieving their learning objectives. This research used a qualitative approach using an instrument questionnaire with junior high school students at SMP Advent Naripan Bandung. The researcher gave two groups of  important questions about student motivation in this research, namely intrinsic factors and extrinsic factors by using google form to find out which factor is more dominant. From the research results, it is known that student learning motivation is more dominant from within themselves (intrinsic motivation) has a greater role in their learning process because they are aware of their responsibilities and obligations as students, especially in learning English, although extrinsic factors also have a role influence on their students' motivation. Keywords:  Covid-19 Pandemic, Online Learning, Learning Motivation

Abstract

Pandemic covid-19 gave big impact to teaching and learning process, government has stated during pandemic , teaching and learning process conduct with online strategy. All off silabus school adopted new strategy to implemented the goverment stated. This journal, explained about the process of teaching and learning English and learning to memorized which was carried out online during the Covid -19 pandemic. Where the problem is that some students do not understand the material, therefore the researcher tries to find and analyze data about these difficulties. The questions of this research are (1) What are the students' problems in online learning? (2) What are the obstacles and constraints in using memorization techniques?.  The aims of this study is to explained barriers and obstacles using memorized method during teaching and learning online process .  This study used a qualitative descriptive, data take from other literatur in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Ummul Qura and own research at SMP Advent Naripan Bandung. From the two questions used, the researcher gets the results that show the difficulty of the students. Forms of barrier and obstacles that are obtained are, (1) students' difficulties in remembering, (2) lack of  students concentration, (3) students are lazy to memorize, (4) students lack enthusiasm in memorizing, (5) limited quota, (6) consistency of networking, handphone problem (telecommunication aspect), (7) students late attendance to the online learning process, (8) lack of student focus, (9) dislike of english subject ( Mindset of the Students ). Keywords:  Barriers and Obstacle, English Learning, Memorized Technique
