Abstract

ABSTRAKPendidikan bahasa Inggris diberikan di Indonesia kepada siswa diawali dari tingkat Sekolah Dasar hingga Perguruan Tinggi. Karena karakteristik anak-anak sebagai pembelajar berbahasa berbeda dan unik dibandingkan dengan pembelajar dewasa sehingga dibutuhkan metode yang berbeda. Level pendidikan di Desa Jalancagak, Subang yang masih belum merata membutuhkan penyegaran metode pembelajaran, terutama terkait dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris Pengabdian kepada masyarakat yang berjudul “Penerapan metode TPR untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara dan kreativitas siswa” ini bertujuan untuk memberikan wawasan pengetahuan kepada para guru TK tentang penerapan metode TPR serta memberikan bekal kemampuan untuk mengajar pada anak usia sekolah dasar. Metode TPR (Total Physical Response) merupakan suatu metode pembelajaran bahasa yang disusun pada koordinasi perintah (command), ucapan (speech) dan gerak (action); dan berusaha untuk mengajarkan bahasa melalui aktivitas fisik (motor). Penyampaian materi pengabdian antara lain meliputi pengertian, manfaat, implementasi dan adaptasi dari metode TPR. Diharapkan para guru bisa menerapkan metode ini dalam kegiatan belajar mengajar sehingga bisa meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara dan kreativitas siswa sekaligus memberikan pengetahuan terkait metode mengajar baik secara konvensional maupun menggunakan teknologi.Kata kunci: TPR, bahasa, kreativitas, siswaABSTRACTEnglish education is given to students in Indonesia starting at the elementary school level to university level. However, the characteristics of children as language learners are different and unique compared to adult learners therefore different methods are needed. The level of education in Jalancagak, Subang Village which is still uneven requires a refresher in learning methods, especially related to learning English. Community service entitled "The application of the TPR method to improve the ability to speak and creativity of students" aims to provide insight into kindergarten teachers about the application of TPR methods and provide the ability to teach primary school age children. The TPR (Total Physical Response) method is a method of language learning that is structured in the coordination of commands, speeches and actions; and trying to teach language through physical activity (motoric). The materials that were delievered regarding to the understanding, benefits, implementation and adaptation of the TPR method. It is hoped that teachers can apply this method in teaching and learning activities so as to improve students' speaking abilities and creativity while providing knowledge related to teaching methods both conventionally and using technology.Keywords : TPR, language, creativity, students

Abstract

Characteristics compared to those who are more mature. They generally have a high curiosity but low attention span therefore different learning methods and techniques are needed. With the development of technology, more technology-based learning techniques are being implemented. The level of education in Desa Jalancagak Subang, which is still uneven, requires refreshing learning methods, especially related to learning English. Community service entitled "Application of Kahoot interactive quiz media to improve students speaking skill in Subang village” aims to provide insight into the knowledge of teachers related to Kahoot learning media and image media which are expected to help develop students' creativity and speaking skills and skills add to the nuances of teaching activities both conventionally and more modern.

Abstract

AbstractThe aim of the study "The study of the use of popular novels to improve reading interest and English proficiency" is to find out how teachers, parents and students views on popular novels especially KKPK and Teen Lit novels. KKPK and Teen-Lit novels are easily available anywhere and favored by children and adolescents are interesting topic to study The research method is descriptive qualitative. The results show that the novels have many positive impacts. In terms of language, help to develop language and vocabulary. In terms of emotions, help to develop emotional intelligence. In terms of English, help students to learn the structure of sentences and apply them in social media. To increase reading interest, any subject of reading will be better for students while performed it regularly with parents or teachers, without any disruption such as gadgets or television.    Keywords: KKPK, teen-lit,novels, reading interest, English proficiency

Abstract

The quality of learning in general at SMK PGRI 2 Cimahi based on the results of discussions with the English teacher is that in general they have enough enthusiasm to learn English, but learning is still fixated on learning resource media in the form of worksheets. Thus they are more focused on the results of working on worksheets. The development of information and communication technology has brought enormous changes to the advancement of the world of education. The form of the development of information technology applied in the world of education is E-Learning. One of the platforms that can be used as an interactive learning medium is Schoology. The use of Schoology media requires students to always be connected to the internet network. Positive supervision from teachers and parents is expected so that students do not access things that are negative in nature. Therefore, the community service activity entitled "Schoology Implementation Training Activities in Teaching and Learning to improve the skills and ethics of high school students using ICT" is to provide socialization related to the use of Schoology for teachers as well as socializing ethics on the internet for students. This activity was carried out on January 22-24, 2021 which was carried out online because of the Covid-19 PSBB. One of the indicators that can be measured is that seen from this activity, teachers and students can use Schoology applications well and students can communicate according to the principle of netiquette (internet etiquette). Therefore we declared that this community service activity was deemed as successful.

Abstract

This research is a preliminary study that aims to determine the interest of students in one of SMA in Bandung in learning English. This research uses mix methods (qualitative and quantitative ) based on questionnaire results. The results showed that 32.6% liked English lessons. When English lessons took place the "frequent" and "fair attention" lessons were 14 people each (32.6). Students are also most "often" facing difficulties (30.2%). In the classroom the teacher is "sufficient" to create an atmosphere of teaching and learning (48.8%), and "fair" to provide methods (44.2 %) and" fair "to assist in guiding and solving problems (32.6%). After giving English language instruction to students, the teacher "fair" often gave free tests (34.9%), "often fair" to give homework (30.2%), "quite often" to give tests (39.5%) and "Often" gives a test that is in accordance with the material given (37.2%). Usually the teacher will give a test of improvement if the student gets an unsatisfactory score, from the results of the questionnaire "quite happy" students with remedial (37.2%), "not often" skipping in following remedial (39.5%), "quite often "Students repeated their English lessons after remedial (34.9%) and" quite well "after attending the remedial program, so that they" often "studied harder so they would not take repetition in learning English (34.9%). Teachers should be able to design better learning including planning, learning methods, learning media so that learning is more effective and students are more eager to take part in the process of learning English. Keywords:  Learning Interest, Mix Method, Senior High School

Abstract

The title of this research is “Teaching Writing Descriptive text  Using Picture and Picture Method through Padlet App”. The objectives of this research are to identify the  implementation of teaching writing Descriptive text  using Picture and Picture method through Padlet app and  to identify students’ and teacher’s obstacles in online learning. This research used descriptive qualitative method. The subject of this research was the tenth-grade students of one senior high school in Cimahi. Observation, questionnaire and  interview were used to collect the data. The result of the research indicated that the implementation of these method and media received positive response from the teacher and students in controlling students’ activities, make students confortable  take part in online learning, and meaningful. The students’ difficulties in writing using Picture and Picture method through Padlet are in applying language features and mechanics, require a lot of internet quota, difficult to focus, and a lot of plagiarism actions. The obstacles faced by the teacher in teaching online are related to technical issues such as students do not have devices and unstable student internet connection, teacher does not master technology, and difficulty in motivating students. Keywords:  Writing, Descriptive Text, Picture and Picture, Padlet

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to understand the scenario and implementation of learning to read Narrative Text. using Steller through Signal Group, to find out teacher and student responses, as well as teacher and student barriers to the implementation of teaching scenarios during online learning during the covid pandemic. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method. The participants in this study were students of class X in one of the Vocational Schools in Cimahi and an English teacher. The instruments in this study were questionnaires, observation sheets, teacher field notes, and tests. Based on research in the field, data obtained that the scenario and implementation of the teaching scenario went well and also received positive responses from both students and teachers. The difficulty experienced by most students is understanding the purpose of the text and looking for references. Another obstacle faced by teachers was technical problems with the Steller application, while student barriers were prerequisite skills 61.33%, time/interruption 70%, motivation 71.7%, technical 76.8% and social 83.7% which showed that all the obstacles faced by most of the students are not too annoying but the unstable internet connection and storage space of the device. Thus, the writers conclude that the use of Steller in this study can help the implementation of learning to write Narrative Text. In addition, teachers can also create appropriate learning media on the Steller teacher story page, especially for teaching reading Narrative Text. However, the teacher must estimate the obstacles that may occur during the activity, especially for technical problems that may occur. Keywords:  Reading, Narrative Text,, Steller, Signal Group

Abstract

Children interact with other children, their parents, and other adults as they acquire language. A child can readily acquire two or more languages at once as long as they are conversing with speakers of those languages on a regular basis.. The purpose of this study is to investigate the connection between the use of offline games and young students' self-esteem in speaking English. The researchers' interpretation of the children's written material served as the foundation for the majority of this study's conclusions. In terms of enhancing self-esteem, the data analysis showed numerous evident benefits for all students. The students were free to exercise their independence and display qualities about themselves. ESL students had the same opportunity to compete with their classmates for the limited time that they took part in these activities. This study used a qualitative approach and conducted a pilot test on pre-school students. This research was conducted at Learning Tots Kindergarten located on Sri pohaci Street, Bandung, Indonesia. The study was conducted on 19 students of Learning Tots Kindergarten. The students were given time to play for 30-60 minutes every day for 2 weeks. The games included matching, bingo, and charades. The study was distinctive in that the students produced written summaries of the game events. The basis of this study's data gathering is qualitative information obtained from observations and conducted interviews. This research was conducted using qualitative methods. Where data analysis is based on interviews with research subjects regarding the impression they feel after playing the game. Furthermore, the researcher also saw and analyzed the students' behavior through observation techniques

Abstract

This research is an analysis of Sherly Annavita illocutionary speech acts on a video on her YouTube channel. The purpose of this study is to describe the types and functions of illocutionary speech acts expressed by Sherly Annavita on her YouTube channel. The author uses a qualitative descriptive method in this study. This research also describes the illocutionary speech acts that are the most widely used and the least used. The author collects the necessary data sources by observing a video of Sherly Annavita on her YouTube channel, then the author notes the important information that is obtained and puts it in written form. After the author makes observations and obtains the data, then the writer classifies the data based on the type of illocutionary speech act.  In the results of this study the authors analyzed all types of illocutionary speech acts and in this study showed that there was five illocutionary speech acts used in Sherly Annavita video in her video, namely representative, directive, commissive, expressive, and declarative.  From the research results, it can be concluded that Sherly Annavita uses 27 utterances with a representative percentage of 59.25%, directive 14.81%, commissive 14.81%, commissive 3.7%, and declarative 7.4%. The result of the percentage shows that the representative is the type of illocution that is most widely used, in other words, Sherly Annavita makes many statements so that someone is motivated to make changes. Keywords:  YouTube; Pragmatic; Speech Act; Illocutionary

Abstract

Slang word is an informal words, phrases, and expressions that often used between people who already close to each other. Slang words often used in daily conversation in a group of people or in literary work such as book, movies, or song. In this research, the researcher attempt to analyze slang words that used in a song. Lowkey by Niki is chosen as a subject of the research. Descriptive qualitative was used in this research.The result of the research shown that there are 22 slang words found in the lyric. From 22 slang words, 4 words are considered as fresh and creative type, 7 words are categorized as flippant, 4 words are imitative type, and 7 words are classified as clipping.
