Abstract

Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PkM) ini berupa edukasi literasi digital dalam pembuatan media pembelajaran interkatif bagi guru Bahasa Inggris SMP di Kabupaten Nganjuk. Kegiatan ini dilatarbelakangi beberapa permasalahan yang dihadapi oleh para guru Bahasa Inggris, Dengan dilaksanakannya keguatan PkM edukasi literasi digital ini diharapkan dapat mencapai tujuan sebagai berikut: 1) meningkatkan literasi digital dalam pembuatan media pembelajaran interaktif; 2) meningkatkan motivasi guru-guru Bahasa Inggris SMP di Kabupaten Nganjuk dalam mengembangkan media pembelajaran interaktif berbasis digital sebagai bentuk inovasi pembelajaran; dan 3) meningkatkan keterampilan guru-guru Bahasa Inggris SMP di Kabupaten Nganjuk dalam mengembangkan media pembelajaran interaktif berbasis digital sebagai bentuk inovasi pembelajaran. Metode yang digunakan pada kegiatan ini berupa: angket sebelum dan sesudah perlakuan, edukasi literasi digital (tutorial), dan penugasan. Rangkaian kegiatan PkM edukasi literasi digital pembuatan media pembelajaran interaktif bagi guru-guru Bahasa Inggris SMP di Kabupaten Nganjuk berlangsung selama 5 bulan (Agustus – Desember 2021). Data tentang kemampuan literasi dan respon guru-guru diperoleh dengan memberikan angket tertutup sebelum dan sesudah tutorial.

Abstract

Driving students to be a critical thinker in their process of writing is hardly a challenge. As an effective process of writing depend on how well they develop their critical thinking skills, helping them build the critical thinking in writing is considered as a way to make a correct judgment independently and  create an environment that raises their best writing. The current study attempts to investigate whether the use of questions could generate students’ critical thinking in their writing process. The participants were 38 English Department students who encountered argumentative writing class in University degree. The subjects were assigned into a mix method on a quasi- experimental study involving pretest - posttest with some features of semi structured interview to know their level of satisfaction from the gained score. The results of the study showed that the significance of exploring questions in helping students’ critical thinking for meaningful learning, especially in the connectivity and coherency of their writing product and also the flow of the sentences. Moreover, the students are being actively involved in meaningful communicative language during the process of writing. This good engagement contributes for the positive classroom management.

Abstract

Teaching and learning process since the pandemic time has shifted away from the traditional face to face classroom into online distance learning, and this will be undergo in the post pandemic. This case study aimed to investigate the effectiveness use of the combined modes of synchronous and asynchronous in e- language learning for university students. While both types of that learning approach have its importance in different scenario. The research questions to be answered in the study was how the adoption of synchronous (discussion activity platform) and asynchronous (learning content platform) would be more effective in e- language learning. 55 university participants from the second semester of English Department who joined the online creative writing class in synchronous and asynchronous language learning activity received the survey questionnaire as the sampling of the collected data. The data from the interview was also obtained to get the learners insights regarding the course experiences.The results showed that the applying of the combination approach in online learning has been greatly effective in helping the learners in terms of the community interaction and material engagement. Moreover, the learners’ response about the using blended mode of synchronous and asynchronous for their learning is very positive. Some suggestions to enfold the problems over the online learning are also provided.

Abstract

Addressing critical literacy exploration into students’ language learning is perpetuated in this digital media- dependent environment. Reading and writing competencies have also pertained the critical enactment in order to present the beyond textual values. Through class discussions and class observations among 12 tertiary English major students in a private university in Indonesia, this study explores students’ beliefs and attitudes towards their critical literacy comprehension on online media information through writing practices. This exploratory case study collect the data covering the recordings of class discussions and class observations from student lesson implementation during their writing course. The results of this study reveal that most of the students are aware of the critical understanding of particular information conveyed from certain messages in their written works. Their beliefs on critical literacy agency has raised several attitudes of how they construct the social perspectives based on selections of what to include and exclude in their written texts. The article is also present recommendation to enlighten the learning in a critical stance.

Abstract

Tidak dapat dipungkiri bahwa pada era yang mengedepankan teknologi informasi dalam berinteraksi saat ini komunikasi yang efektif memegang peranan penting dalam mencapai tujuan yang dikehendaki. Namun, tidak semua orang termasuk guru dapat melakukan suatu komunikasi sehingga informasi dapat tersampaikan dengan baik kepada pihak lain. Seorang guru memiliki tugas dan peran sebagai motivator, mediator, dan fasilitator, serta transfer pengetahuan kepada peserta didik tentu dituntut memiliki keterampilan komunikasi, termasuk public speaking yang baik agar segala informasi dapat diterima dengan baik pula oleh peserta didik. Guna memberikan pemahaman dan keterampilan yang memadai maka diperlukan pelatihan public speaking bagi guru. Tujuan pelatihan ini adalah  meningkatkan literasi public speaking dan meningkatkan keterampilan public speaking bagi guru. Sasaran pelatihan adalah guru-guru bahasa Inggris pada jenjang pendidikan SMP dan SMA di Kediri. Metode pelatihan yang diberikan berupa tutorial, simulasi, dan evaluasi. Meskipun kegiatan pelatihan public speaking ini dilakukan secara daring akibat adanya kebijakan social distancing dalam upaya mencegah dan mengurangi penyebaran Covid-19, namun tidak menyurutkan antusiasme peserta untuk mengikutinya. Sebanyak 25 peserta yang terdiri dari guru-guru Bahasa Inggris di Kediri telah mengikuti kegiatan ini dengan penuh semangat dan suka cita mulai dari awal hingga akhir pelatihan.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah Melihat sejauh mana pemanfaatan whatsapp sebagai tempat untuk mengekspresikan kemampuan mahasiswa dalam diskusi, bertanya, menjawab, mengerjakan yang ditugaskan oleh dosen pengampu; Melihat apakah program yang dibuat oleh dosen berhasil atau tidak; Merancang program baru yang efektif untuk membuat kemampuan mahasiswa menjadi semakin meningkat. Dalam penelitian kualitatif ini, di mana peneliti sekaligus dosen pengampu mengumpulkan semua data dari hasil pekerjaan yang dibuat oleh para mahasiswa pada tahun akademik 2020/2021. Sekaligus, objek penelitian adalah para mahasiswa Bahasa Indonesia 1 kelas S3E Universitas Indraprasta PGRI Jakarta tahun akademik 2020/2021 semester genap. Hasil penelitian berupa Disimpulkan bahwa penelitian ini dapat menjawab pertanyaan penelitian sebagai berikut Manfaat dari penggunaan forum diskusi perkuliahan menggunakan group whatsapp sebagai tempat untuk mengekspresikan kemampuan mahasiswa dalam membuat kalimat tanya yang ditugaskan oleh dosen pengampu, manfaat program yang dibuat oleh dosen dalam membuat kalimat tanya, merancang program baru yang efektif untuk membuat kemampuan mahasiswa membuat kalimat tanya menjadi semakin meningkat.

Abstract

This study aims to determine differences in the ability to write descriptive text. From male students to female students, students of class X SMAN 4 Kediri. This type of research is quantitative because it collects data using numbers. The sample class studied was one, namely class X-1, which consisted of 30 people, 13 male and 17 female. The research instrument used was a written test given to students when collecting the data. The results of the research show that the ability to write descriptive text among class X students at SMAN 4 Kediri, namely between male and female students, is indeed different. Based on the average calculation, male students got a score of 43.0763 (44) while the average score for female students was 65.1765 (66). So it can be concluded that the difference in their writing abilities is significant; this can be seen from the SPSS calculation results from the independent t-test.

Abstract

The implementation of “Merdeka” curriculum continues to be carried out at all levels of education in Indonesia with the aim of improving teaching learning process. This policy certainly brings impacts and changes for teachers and stakeholders of Indonesian education. One of the changes is about planning the lesson. In this new curriculum, teachers need to have a lesson plan or teaching module to help direct the learning process to achieve learning outcomes that have been stated by the government. This case study aims to investigate teachers’ understanding toward the preparation of teaching module, especially English subject in phase D. Twenty-seven Junior High School English teachers in Kediri became the subjects of this study. The data were collected through a closed-ended questionnaire with five answer choice options submitted online through the Google Form application followed by a guided- interviews. The results showed that in general teachers had good understanding of Phase D English learning outcomes, components of teaching modules and their development, English learning approaches using the Genre Based Approach and its cycles and stages. However, some of teachers were uncertain about constructing of learning objectives, the selection of types and forms of assessment. It is recommended to the government and parties related to the development of teacher competencies in learning planning to provide training for the teachers about composing teaching objectives, form and types of assessment aspects so that teachers’ competence and teaching quality can be improved.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of watching original English videos with or without subtitles on the listening ability of EFL students at SMA 3 Kediri. This research uses quantitative methods. The research participants consisted of a group of EFL students, taken from class XII-IPS 2 at SMAN 3 Kediri. And data is collected through tests from previous listening results and questionnaires. This intervention involved exposing participants to original English-language videos in two conditions: one with English subtitles and the other without English subtitles. Motivational factors influencing student engagement with learning materials were explored through analysis of questionnaire responses. The findings show that the use of subtitles has a significant effect on students' listening abilities, while most students are motivated to watch English films. The recommendations of this research can help develop learning approaches that suit the needs of EFL students in the region.

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of technology in teaching and the understanding of religious values on the moral development of students in Islamic schools in Indonesia. A quantitative analysis using Structural Equation Modelling with Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) was employed to examine the relationships among these key variables. The study's questionnaire demonstrated strong validity and reliability. Discriminant validity confirmed the distinctiveness of the constructs. Hypothesis tests revealed significant positive relationships between Religious Values and Students' Moral Development and between Technology Use in Teaching and Students' Moral Development. These results underscore the critical role of both religious values and technology-enhanced teaching methods in shaping the moral character of students. The findings provide valuable insights for educators and policymakers in Islamic schools, emphasizing the potential of technology in religious education without compromising moral development.
