Abstract

The prevalence of diabetes in Indonesia has increased substantially in the last 30 years, where individual chances of developing diabetes are higher for women than for men; and level of education is negatively related to diabetes mellitus. Independent therapy garden, is one of the functions of public park which is designed thematically for therapy (medication). The objectives of Program are: (1) Development of a participatory Diabetes Mellitus Self-therapy Garden at partner locations; (2) Cultivation training and education in using/processing of medicinal plants for self-therapy for Diabetes. Program partners are the Kecapi Posyandu RW 6 Benteng Village Bogor Regency, West Java Province. Partner problems are: (1) There are a large number of elderly people who have the potential to suffer from Type 2 Diabetes; (2) Lack of knowledge of partners and residents around partner locations about Diabetes: its characteristics, treatment and prevention; (3) Lack of skills in cultivating and processing of medicinal plants to maintain health, especially diabetes. The participatory approach was carried out by involving partners from the beginning of the program, started from discussing the activity plan, determining the location of the public facility land to be built into a therapy park, and determining program participants. The determination of the location of the park was chosen based on area that was easily visited by residents, so that they can interact with fellow residents in the park. Education about diabetes therapy was carried out by conveying information about diabetes mellitus and how to handle it. Education on the use of medicinal plants, processing them, concocting them, was carried out in practice. There has been an increase in knowledge, skills, and positive attitudes in the prevention and treatment of diabetes independently by partners. The sustainability of the program is carried out by providing diabetes self-therapy manuals, and mentoring through groups through periodic discussions.

Abstract

Kasepuhan Sinar Resmi is one of the Kasepuhan that has long inhabited lived in the Mount Halimun Salak National Park (TNGHS) and utilizes part of the TNGHS area to meet their basic needs by farming in the fields (huma) and in the rice fields. However, after the expansion of the TNGHS area, access to utilize the natural resources for agriculture cultivation activities has decreased. Moreover, by increasing the population with a growth rate of 0.95% need more agricultural cultivation in order to be able to supply adequate staple food. This is very influential in decreasing the quantity of food production to meet consumption needs. The purpose of this research is to plan the landscape for the preservation of Kasepuhan Sinar Resmi based on bioregion. A bioregion is a geographical area, the boundaries of which are not defined by the administrative or political system but are limited by cultural and natural features. The research stages consist of preparation, inventory, analysis, synthesis, and planning. The analysis was carried out to identify problems in each bioregion by looking at the balance of food needs (rice) and the existence of production land in huma and rice fields. Due to limited production land, it is necessary to optimize existing land resources. Synthesis is carried out by evaluating the potential and problems in each bioregion unit. The results of the evaluation are used as a direction for the concept of the landscape plan. The final result of this research is presented as a landscape plan map for the preservation of Kasepuhan Sinar Resmi.

Abstract

Home gardens (pekarangan) constitute the potential land to be utilized as productive agricultural land due to their proximity with the people’s house, so that the management of these land is easy. Residents of Teluk Waru hamlet have not optimally utilized their home garden. For optimizing the production of pekarangan, an integrated agricultural landscape was made, with the concept of LEISA and is expected to be able to fulfill monthly appropriate livelihood need (KHL) for residents of Teluk Waru hamlet. In the efforts of optimizing the pekarangan utilization, two alternatives of agribusiness were planned. Lansdcape planning of Pekarangan with integrated farming system concept in the resident’s home garden of Teluk Waru hamlet with land size of 350 m2 showed the following results of agribusiness financial feasibilities: alternative 1 showed NPV of Rp 45.261.784,00, IRR of 111%, and Net B/C of 3,49. Agribusiness of alternative 1 was feasible to be run because of having NPV > 0, IRR above interest rate of 20 % and Net B/C > 1. Analysis results of financial feasibility of alternative 2 agribusiness showed NPV of Rp 72.128.612,00, IRR of 137%, and Net B/C of 4,28. Agribusiness of alternative 2 was feasible to be run because of having NPV > 0, IRR above interest rate of 20 % and Net B/C > 1. In order that the monthly livelihood needs of the famers are fulfilled, the agribusiness of alternative 1 and alternative 2 need minimum land size of 175,57 m2 and 123,82 m2 respectively.
