Abstract

The analysis of the kapamangkuan gender bias in Mengesta village is a socio-cultural study of the imbalance of rights and obligations between pamangku lanang and pamangku istri. This study uses a qualitative methodology, data collection were done through observations, literature study, and in-depth interviews with 7 traditional and religious leaders as informants. The present study concludes that the procedures for pamangku candidates' coronation were as follows: selection, lineage, nyanjan ceremony, and distribution of lekesan. Gender inequality exists due to several factors, namely: the purusa and pradana system in Balinese culture; 2) male dominance in kapamangkuan; 3) kapamangkuan education prioritizes pamangku lanang; 4) The labeling of pamangku istri with their domestic duties as ceremonial amenities maker, and 5) menstrual cycle myths factors. Furthermore, the gender identification in kapamangkuan in Mengesta village are as follows: 1) The labeling of pamangku istri as the socialization of women into gender polarity; 2) the kapamangkuan education system based on biological differentiation, 3) a second marriage system that is considered unholy, 4) through unclear patterns of pamangku istri's clothing, and 5) Gender identification through adat (local social system). In general, there is still injustice to pamangku istri regarding her rights and obligations despite her equal position as a pamangku.

Abstract

Bali is known for its valuable traditions and customs from pre-Hindu times to the present. Social facts, that the more widespread social problems occur that are not directly proportional to the social and legal rules in the lontar text and customs in Bali. The purpose of this paper is to examine the social norms and legal norms contained in the Manawa swarga text and its context in Balinese society in Klungkung Regency. This paper uses primary data and secondary data, with methods of observation, text search, interviews and literature study. Data analysis techniques, the process of collecting data, classification, display data, interpretation and conclusions. The finding is that there is a relationship between the contents of the Vedic scriptures, Manawadhamasastra, Manawa Swarga, and customary law (awig-awig) in Bali. Each of them describes the Chess of Varna or four classes of professions, which is contained in Ṛgveda: 10.90.12, Manawadharmasastra / Manu Smrtih. Pratamo'dhyayah I.31 Manawa Swarga text article 189. The contents of the Manawa Swarga text are still relevant to current social phenomena, specifically regarding the homosexual legal norms, hate speech "Adur Welyani" which can strengthen national legal norms.

Abstract

Barong Brutuk is an ancient sacred art that our ancestors passed down way before Hinduism was introduced to Indonesia. It is still practiced and observed today by the people of Trunyan Village in Kintamani Bangli. This research is conducted in order to know (1) the symbols that used in Barong Brutuk, (2) the communication function of Barong Brutuk, (3) the meaning of communication semiotic from sender to the receiver of message. This research is a qualitative research, that using the theory of communication semiotic, theory of religious communication, and theory symbolic interaction. Analytical techniques with hermeneutic analysis. Based on the results of the analysis and discussion, it came to our conclusion that the symbols used in Barong Brutuk in Trunyan Village consist of mask (tapel), kraras leaves, and whip. The mask symbolizes the meeting of the god Trunyan with his future consort, it is interpreted as the meeting of man and women led to believe to be the start of human life. The kraras leaves symbolizes the soil fertility, protecting the environment and the prevention of natural disasters. The belief of self-sacrifice as a means of healing disease, the hope of obtaining offspring is symbolized by the whip. Barong Brutuk has many purposes and uses such as communication, as a means of pleasure, and entertainment for the community, it also reflects on the Trunyan Villages identity as an integrative tool. It’s a method of healing, education and integration during a time of chaos.

Abstract

This study aims to determine several supporting factors as well as inhibiting communication behavior in Candikuning Village in maintaining tolerance, how communication behavior and to determine the implications of the communication behavior of Hindu and Muslim communities in Candikuning Village in maintaining tolerance. This research is descriptive qualitative research. The research subjects were Hindu and Muslim communities in the village of Candikuning. Data collection methods used were observation, interviews, documentation, and Islam in Candikuning to maintain tolerance supported by historical factors, language, familial attitudes, polite attitudes, and respect for differences. The problems that occur in building tolerance between Hindus and Muslims occur when someone changes religions when they are getting married, there are residents who are not native to Candikuning Village who try to invite people to change beliefs and the language factor. The communication behavior of the Hindu and Muslim communities in Candikuning Village cannot be separated from interpersonal communication activities. Every person's response to a stimulus is always manifested in the form of real or open action, through language, discussion, and dialogue. The nonverbal behavior of the community in Candikuning Village is based on observations using body language and objects. The implications that occur from the communication behavior of the Hindu and Muslim communities in Candikuning Village are the realization of tolerance through the adaptation of community interactions, the reactivation of religious communication forums, and further strengthening of social control.

Abstract

In the midst of budget constraints, the village head of Taro in 2019 has achieved a lot of success in his services to the community in the village of Taro. Such as, through the road infrastructure program can reduce unemployment and poverty, online population administration programs, rural tourism development programs that obtain champions of national hope, awards Kalpataru and the Women's Farmers Group Program (KWT) won first place in the province. The method used in data collection is observation or observation by researchers, researcher interviews with respondents, documentation that is by collecting writings, photos of research sites and literature, especially those in the literature of the Hindu Dharma Negeri Denpasar State Institute. Data analysis techniques in this study used descriptive qualitative which emphasizes the meaning of the phenomena that arise with content analysis. This analysis emphasizes the importance of messages in verbal and nonverbal communication. A qualitative descriptive method with a content analysis approach, to understand political communication carried out by the village head of Taro. Â Based on the results of research conducted, the Taro village head in his leadership used a political communication strategy through the implementation of the vision and mission of the Taro village government with a work program. Collaboration that has been carried out with government agencies, customs, community groups, and mass media and the use of symbols. The function of political communication is carried out by providing information forming networks and providing solutions. The implications of the political communication of the village head can improve the welfare of the community and the progress of the Taro village.

Abstract

The transformation in Balinese bridal make-up and dress, especially regarding the details on the face and head decoration of the bride, is not solely due to the wishes of the bride herself, but because of the demands of the times. The transformation of traditional Balinese bridal make-up and clothing into the form of modified bridal make-up and clothing cannot be separated from the development of the socio-cultural dynamics of the Denpasar community itself. The dynamic itself can be understood as starting from the emergence of a new trend in Balinese life cycle rituals, especially in wedding ceremonies, namely the emergence of pre-wedding culture among young people which began in the 2001s.The implications of the transformation in Balinese bridal make-up and clothing have had various implications for the social life of people all over the world. The changes that occur in society are caused by three main factors, namely; the need for democratization, advances in science and technology and globalization.Implications for social dynamics The development of this kind of globalization will certainly bring about social change. One of the most prominent socio-cultural changes that occurred as a result of the development of this globalization era was the strengthening of the consumptive behavior of the community, including the people of Denpasar.The transformation of values in the field of Balinese make-up and bridal clothing, either at the level of nista, middle or at the level of Payas agung is due to the development of an increasingly modern society. This can not be separated from the existence of a new order in the development of the social system in this country, including the social order of the Denpasar community, which has implications for various aspects of community life, such as in the field of education

Abstract

Dance is one of the arts that is quite easy to find in Bali, because many dances are performed as entertainment and are used in religious ceremonies in Bali. One of the classical dances that is sacred and performed during the tumpek wayang ceremony at Banjar Abiannangka Kaja is the Sang Hyang Legong Dance at the Lasem Keraton . Banjar Abiannangka Kaja believes that the dance performance can bring prosperity and is a way of communicating with Ida Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa, who in this case manifests as Ratu Ayu Alit Mas Suci who resides at the Banjar Temple. The formulation of the problem in this article is (1) the existence of the Sang Hyang Legong dance at the Lasem Keraton at the Tumpek wayang ceremony (2) the form of transcendental communication in the Sang Hyang Legong dance performance at the Lasem Keraton (3) the implications of transcendental communication on people's lives after performing the Sang Hyang Legong dance. Keraton Lasem The theories used to analyze the three problem formulations in this study are (1) Theory of Religion, (2) Theory of Extraordinary Powers and (3) Theory of Symbolic Interaction. This study uses a qualitative method. The results of this study indicate several things, such as: First, this Legong dance performance still survives today because it is believed to expel negative forces and can bring prosperity. Second, there are two forms of transcendental communication in this dance performance, namely the type of verbal communication (Pedudusan Sang Hyang Dedari singing, sesontengan and mantra) and the type of nonverbal communication (banten and dance movements). In this type of verbal and non-verbal communication, there is transcendental communication between humans and God from every meaning contained in songs, mantras, offerings and movements, both expressed and implied. Third, the implications for people's lives such as in religious life, social life, culture and the teachings of Tri Hita Karana.

Abstract

An interesting phenomenon at this time in Bali, Hinduism begin to make rituals of cleansing themselves not only as a spiritual activity but also as a life style. This study aims to one of them is the Parisudha vayu ritual, which means cleansing oneself by the wind power of Lord Vayu and is a method of activating oneself to connect with the energy of the universe. A sacred knowledge of Balinese ancestors stored in the natural silence of the village of Tegalmengkeb. This study focuses on the discussion of The process of transcendental communication in the implementation of the Parisudha vayu ritual at Pasraman Kayu Manis Lata mahosadhiforms of transcendental communication in the implementation of the Parisudha vayu ritual at Pasraman Kayu Manis Lata mahosadhi. The research objective is to develop transcendental communication in society. The results of this study indicate several things. First, ). the transcendental communication process goes through 3 stages in the parisudha vayu ritual, including: the preparation stage, namely establishing oneself and preparing the activation equipment, the implementation stage, namely the process of purifying the hands (karosodhana), the bhuwana chakra mudra movement and the activation of parisudha vayu and the final stage of giving three passwords. for the implementation of the next ritual. Second, the form of transcendental communication in the Parisudha vayu ritual is divided into two, namely verbal communication patterns (meaning in prayer in Parisudha vayu ritual) and nonverbal communication patterns (meaning in each movement in the Parisudha vayu ritual), respectively. -Each people practice. It is at this point that the private area of transcendental communication in the parisudha vayu ritual occurs (communication between humans and God. Abstract

The purpose of research is the research aimed to seek, describe and analized Commodification of Balinese letter as a Creative Economic movement in Gianyar Regency. This research is using the commodification theory, symbolize theory, and the social impact theory. The kind of research is the qualitative form, by using the primarily data which derived from the result of the observation, interview, and also documentation, while the secondary data, there were gained from the printed materials, impirical research, and also relevant references that were implied in the research’s tittle. The method of research is The research was using purposive sampling technique. The data collection was gained by using the observation technique, interview, references studies, and documentation study. After the researcher gained the data, it would be analyzed by reduction, classification, and conclusion. The result and conclusion of research can be explained through several matters, there would be: (1) The form of Aksara Bali or Balinese Letter commodification in the form of creative economy industry in Gianyar are in nametag, inscriptions, printed media, and name board. (2) The form of Aksara Bali or Balinese letters product of creative economy industry is by written with the line up term in the economical product, with the Swalalita form of letters which included in the group of warga Aksara Bali or common Balinese letters, completed with the pasang pageh Aksara Bali or the rules in Balinese letters, by following the Harswa and Dirgha term of rules. (3) The impact of Aksara Bali or Balinese letters being existed in the creative economy industry in Gianyar is the socioreligious of the Gianyar Community identity is getting bolder with the both culture and Hindus religion, yet impacted the gradually of  the degradation of  the sacredness of the appliance of the Aksara Bali or Balinese letters itself, but economically, it enhanched the artists’ income but affected the lost of magical value and turned to become profanity of the Aksara Bali or Balinese letters in Gianyar Regency.
