Abstract

Language is one of the basic needs for human beings, because besides as personal being, human is social being as well. Human does not live alone in an isolated island, he lives in a community with many people from different ethnical and cultural background. The role of a language has been recognized significantly as tool for social communication and cooperation. The contact of many different people with varieties of background has been taking place for the past centuries. A lot of loaned words in a certain language is an evidence that there has been contact between two nations with different language background. There are many influential factors why people learn foreign language. This brief paper is trying to explore the background of learning foreign language. Among of the factors are psychological, social and religious. In term of psychology human has psychological potential to acquire language through learning. Learning is defined as psychological process to change the behavior.  There is close relationship between psychology of language and psychology of learning which includes attitude, motivation, intelligence, aptitude and other related factors. The other factor is social factor, language is part of social life, we are aware that there is a close relationship between language and society. We know that there is no language without society as language user, and there is no society without language as a means for communication. We cannot use a language for communication without   involving society, with whom   we are going to talk.  In learning foreign language it is not only learning linguistic skill but also communicative skill, how to use learned language in authentic communication.  There are many social reasons why people learn foreign language, among of the reasons are educational, commercial, political, cultural and the likes. The other factors of learning foreign language is religious purpose, either it is because of the teaching of the religion explicitly or implicitly orders to learn foreign language or because of religious obligation to spread religious belief to people all over the world. In Islam there are many verses in the Holy Quran that state the importance of learning language, foreign language and also human potentials in mastering language. The Holy Book also states the importance of human communication in order to work together to achieve social welfare. Learning foreign language (Arabic) also very important for ritual reason and for educational reason, because the Holy Book, the Word of God is written in Arabic language.

Abstract

As a mean of communication, English language becomes very important in this globalization era. The difficulties in learning English as a new language are something that should be overcome. Communicative competence is the major goal for the English learners; it is not based on what to know the language but based on how to use the language. Therefore the competencies in learning English as a new language, is not merely grammar and vocabulary. It is also consist of other competencies that relates to process of communication. A good language learner will have persistence, determination, practice and the development of various social and learning strategies in learning new language, especially English.

Abstract

This research explores the perceptions of English students about using the music video to influence their writing in narrative text. This research employed quantitative research methods, using questionnaires and interviews as the instruments to collect the data. The participants of this research were English students that consisted of two majors, including 17 English education students and 13 English literature students in the fourth semester. The data was analyzed using quantitative methods. The questionnaire tool uses Google Forms. The results showed that there were positive reasons for the students' perspective on learning using music videos when they wrote their narrative text. The music video helps them to find ideas in the brainstorming and All in all, the students had to focus and create comfortable environments when they did the writing process with the use of music videos to motivate their creative writing on the narrative text.

Abstract

Perpustakaan keliling Sragen merupakan media yang menjadi strategi dalam menumbuhkembangkan budaya gemar membaca peserta didik. Melalui kegiatan ini peserta didik mampu menumbuhkembangkan semangat dalam membudayakan gemar membaca di lingkungan sekolah karena mereka dapat membaca buku dengan banyak jenisnya dan dapat mengeksplorasi pengetahuan yang luas yang akan mereka dapatkan ketika membaca buku melalui perpustakaan keliling. Sehingga penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menumbuhkembangkan budaya gemar membaca peserta didik di SDN Dawung 3 yang diaplikasikan melalui perpustakaan keliling Sragen. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif ranah Studi Kasus. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan teknik observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Subyek penelitian ini adalah siswa SDN Dawung 3 yang berjumlah 80 peserta didik. Berdasarkan pengamatan yang peneliti lakukan, untuk perpustakaan sekolah sudah tersedia sebelumnya tetapi pengelolaan buku yang tidak memadai sesuai kebutuhan peserta didik. Sehingga, dengan penelitian ini mampu menciptakan inovasi nyata yang baru untuk menumbuhkembangkan budaya gemar membaca melalui perpustakaan keliling Sragen di SDN Dawung 3.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was twofold: to develop an online learning application compatible with both Android and Windows platforms and to evaluate the effectiveness of an Android-based mobile learning tool in improving English proficiency and student perceptions. This research employed a research and development (R&D) methodology encompassing nine stages: needs assessment, data collection, product design, expert validation, testing, initial revision, trial implementation, second revision, and finalization. Data were collected through tests and questionnaires and analyzed using independent sample t-tests and descriptive statistics. Participants included second-year junior high school students in Central Java. The findings of this study are as follows: first, the validity of the developed product was confirmed through expert validation from media and material specialists, indicating its feasibility for educational use. Second, a statistically significant improvement in students’ test scores was observed, highlighting the effectiveness of the Android-based mobile learning tool. Finally, 75.5% of participants agreed that the application provided a positive learning experience by delivering practical and concise materials on greeting cards, enhancing engagement, and reducing learning monotony. This study demonstrates that Android-based mobile learning media can be a valuable tool for English language instruction.

Abstract

EFL learners had a less enthuastic and  difficult experiences when they studied short fuctional text. So, this current study discussed how to create a mobile phone application for online learning compatible with Android and Windows platforms named short functional text: greeting card. This study also attempted to evaluate the effectiveness of acquiring English language skills using Android-based mobile learning media. This study employed a research and development methodology, which involved nine consecutive stages: identification of potential and challenges, data collection, product design, validation of the design by experts, product testing, initial product revision, trial usage of the product, second product revision, and finalization of the product. The research instruments employed were questionnaires and tests. The data analysis was performed utilizing descriptive statistics and an independent sample T-test. The participants included eighth-grade students who were enrolled at SMP N 4 Purwodadi. Three separate findings were obtained from this inquiry. The validation of media and material specialists was a relevant evaluation of an authentic product, and the viability of using an Android-based mobile learning media product was established. Moreover, the average pre-test and post-test results exhibited a significant significance level, suggesting that the android-based mobile learning media was very effective as a learning medium throughout the learning process. Moreover, the student's perception findings were categorized as positive, with 75.5% indicating their agreement with using Android-based mobile learning media for learning. Using android-based mobile learning media can help students comprehend condensed functional content included in greeting cards, and it can alleviate monotony throughout the learning process.
