Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia has made the Ministry of Education and Culture modify all learning methods and systems to be implemented online, one of which is Small Group Discussion (SGD). The impact felt is that students do not understand the material because of the decrease in the intensity of learning meetings. In line with this phenomenon, this study aims to determine the level of effectiveness and learning evaluation materials based on attendance, activeness and learning achievement. This research design uses a questionnaire sheet, in the form of exploratory descriptive research with direct survey quantitative methods. The results of research to 155 respondents in the form of univariate data obtained as many as 69.03% of students in general stated that it was effective with the effectiveness of the attendance subvariable 87.7%, the effectiveness of the activeness subvariable 67.7% and the effectiveness of the learning achievement subvariable 47.09%. Thus it can be concluded that the implementation of this online SGD is effective. However, there is still a need to improve the supporting components in the form of a more attractive and modified learning system and environment in order to create a more effective SGD implementation.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the development of clinical nursing preceptor competencies in Cibabat Cimahi Regional Hospital. This research method uses descriptive qualitative with a phenomenological approach. The results showed that there were competency gaps in the form of 3 major themes in the development of clinical preceptor competencies as well as: a) the responsibilities of clinical counselors in guiding students, b) unpleasant experiences during guiding students, c) clinical counselors' expectations towards improving the student guidance process. The most relevant reinforcement model is preceptorship training. In conclusion, the competency gap that exists in clinical nursing supervisors at Cibabat Cimahi Regional Hospital is the responsibility of clinical counselors, unpleasant experiences while guiding students and clinical advisors' expectations towards improving student guidance processes. The strengthening model that is relevant to the essence of the competency gap in the four competencies of clinical preceptor competency is preceptorship training in collaboration with the Hospital. Abstract

Student-centered learning is student-centered learning. The application of student-centered learning in various universities has a diverse level of specialization in student-centered learning models and student motivation, so evaluating the application of learning models must be carried out in accordance with the needs of students and the applicable learning curriculum. Objective: This study aims to identify learning motivation in student-centered learning (SCL) of third-level nursing undergraduate students of STIKes Dharma Husada. Methods: This type of study uses an observational descriptive quantitative method with a sample of 82 respondents taken by purposive sampling technique. The instrument used was a learning motivation questionnaire in student-centered learning at STIKes Dharma Husada which referred to Cherniss and Goleman. Results: The results of the study seen from the frequency distribution showed that the motivation of level 3 nursing undergraduate students at STIKes Dharma Husada (67.1%) was in the medium category. In the aspect of motivation, 4 sub-variables, namely: Motivation to achieve something, Commitment, Initiative and Optimism are in the medium category. Student centered learning has 10 types of models. The first most popular student-centered learning model is the Role Play and Simulation model (41.5%) and the first least popular student centered-learning model is Small Group Discussion (34.1%). It is hoped that the study program nursing undergraduate can maintain the most in-demand model and evaluate and make the strategy of applying the student-centered learning model more attractive to the model that is not in demand.

Abstract

Introduction and Method Effective learning methods can enhance student engagement and accelerate the learning process. Among regular students who utilize the Student-Centered Learning (SCL) method, more than 80% actively participate in organizations and achieve accomplishments outside the academic field. In contrast, non-regular students, who are taught using conventional methods, do not gain any additional outputs beyond their work experience. Due to the monotonous nature of the conventional method, non-regular students tend to be passive listeners, resulting in a lack of interactivity. This study aims to describe students’ perceptions of the Student-Centered Learning and conventional methods in the Nursing Management course in the Bachelor of Nursing program at STIKES Dharma Husada. This research employs a descriptive historical approach with a retrospective study design. The sample consists of 87 students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire comprising 15 questions. Results The majority of regular students (67.1%) considered the SCL method effective, while 32.9% rated it as very effective. Among non-regular students, 90.9% found the method effective, and 9.1% considered it very effective. Overall, most students, both regular and non-regular (70.1%), perceived this learning method as very effective, while 32.9% rated it as effective. Conclusion and Recommendations Students’ perceptions of the Student-Centered Learning (SCL) method in the Nursing Management course at STIKES Dharma Husada indicate that most regular and non-regular students find this learning method effective. Future research should consider conducting further studies with similar sample characteristics and exploring the relationship between learning methods and perceptions of other nursing courses. For the Bachelor of Nursing program, it is recommended to simplify and develop learning methods to further enhance the quality of education, particularly in the Nursing Management course. Achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) This study examines students' perceptions of the Student-Centered Learning (SCL) method in the Nursing Management course. This article contributes to SDG Goal 4, which aims to Ensure Inclusive and Equitable Quality Education and Promote Lifelong Learning Opportunities for All. Specifically, it aligns with Target 4.3, which, by 2030, seeks to ensure equal access for all women and men to affordable and quality technical, vocational, and higher education, including university education. Furthermore, the outcomes of this study can contribute to the achievement of SDG Goal 3 on ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages.

Abstract

Introduction and MethodsThe Student-Centered Learning (SCL) method is a learning approach that positions students as active participants in the learning process. This study aimed to examine the effect of implementing the SCL method in the Nursing Management course in the Undergraduate Nursing Program. A quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest design was employed, involving 144 students as respondents. The respondents were divided into five groups across different levels. During the Nursing Management course, each group received learning through SCL methods based on role-play and simulation in accordance with the course topics. In the first week, a pretest using a learning motivation questionnaire was administered to assess the respondents’ initial conditions. After the completion of the course series, a posttest using the same instrument was conducted in the final week to measure changes in learning motivation. Data were collected using a validated questionnaire and analyzed through frequency distribution. ResultsThe findings revealed that the majority of respondents were female (76.39%) and perceived the implementation of the SCL method as fairly effective in enhancing understanding, skills, and active participation in the learning process. Conclusion and RecommendationsThese findings are consistent with previous studies indicating that the SCL method can improve learning independence, critical thinking skills, and students’ communication abilities. However, challenges remain in its implementation, particularly concerning the readiness of lecturers and students to manage time and learning resources. Therefore, the SCL method can be considered a relevant learning strategy to enhance the quality of nursing education, although continuous support in the form of training and periodic evaluation is necessary.
