Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui keefektifan penggunaan video Youtube terhadap pemahaman dalam listening(menyimak) pada matakuliah Basic Listening semester 1 Jurusan Bahasa Inggris. Youtube dapatlah menjadi sarana belajar dan media pembelajaran yang dapat memenuhi tuntutan kebutuhan pelajar. Ada banyak jenis video dengan berbagai macam topik yang unik, menarik dan menyenangkan untuk dinikmati dan yang dapat digunakan dalam pelajaran di kelas. Jenis Penelitian ini adalah quasi eksperimen dengan desain penelitian eksperimen Pretest dan Post-test Control group. Penelitian ini dilakukan di Jurusan Bahasa Inggris FBS Unima Tondano. Populasi Penelitian adalah seluruh semester 1 yang berjumlah 250 mahasiswa. Pengambilan sampel menggunakan random sampling. Dari hasil perhitungan menunjukan nilai rata-rata kelas eksperimen sebesar 69,032 kemudian menjadi 80,403. Hal ini berarti bahwa di kelas eksperimen terjadi peningakatan sebesar 11,37. Untuk kelompok kontrol pada saat pretest sebesar 69,141 dan pada saat post-test sebesar 73,828. berarti terjadi kenaikan sebesar 4,69. Meskipun kedua kelas sama-sama mengalami kenaikan rata-rata, namun kenaikan rata-rata posttest pada kelas eksprimen lebih besar dibandingkan post-test kelas kontrol dan bobot keefektifan sebesar 9,5%. Kesimpulannya adalah nilai pemahaman listening pada matakuliah Basic Listening lebih tinggi dengan yang menggunakan video youtube dibandingkan dengan menggunakan media konvensional. Sehingga dapat dikatakan terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan pemahaman listening mahasiswa Jurusan Pendidik Bahasa Inggris antara yang diajar dengan media video dan yang diajar dengan menggunakan media konvensional.

Abstract

The research is done in order to identify and describe the expressions of personification in Mariah Carey’s selected song lyrics. This study is only focuse on the personification expressions in the song lyrics of popular female singer Mariah Carey. Since there are a lot of albums populariz by Mariah Carey during her singing career, the researcher only took albums that consists of song lyrics with personification use to be the subject of the study This study has conduct in qualitative method or also call descriptive research. In this research, the data were collect from the song lyrics of Mariah Carey. The data is analyzingusing the theory According to Miles and Hubermen (2007: 139-140). Based on the result, thirty personification data has found in Mariah Carey’s song lyrics. Language is fundamental to all social processes, and human do need language to communicate to each other. In social process, there are people who communicate more than the say the use language that indicate meaning more than the language does. This terms called figurative language (Samola and Maru; 2016:1). Figurative languages are used in the song lyrics. Specifically, personification is the figurative langugae found through this study. the function of using personifcation expressions is to beautify or decorate the songlyrics them selves so that it is effective in attracting public and the meaning is beautifully delivered to the song listeners. Language style can be help readers and listeners to better understand a meaning of songs, how composer use words in their lyrics, and how does that mean The composer use personification so that the meaning of the wors use become more touching and beautiful.

Abstract

This study aims to determine whether the E-learning method can be effective in optimizing students' reading comprehension of descriptive text with WhatsApp Application. This research was conducted in class X MIA 1 SMA Negeri 1 Buko in the academic year of 2020/2021. This study used one group-pretest-postest design of research with the data analysis were the frequency distribution of scores, mean and standard deviation. The questions from the pretest and posttest used the type of multiple choice questions with questions about the descriptive text. From this result, it was found that the mean of posttest Y = 7.8 with standard deviation Sy = 0.79 was higher than mean score at pretest X = 5.33 with standard deviation Sx = 0.89. It means that students' reading comprehension in descriptive text was higher after treatment at posttest than pretest. So the researcher concluded that the application of the E-learning method through WhatsApp application was effective in optimizing students' reading comprehension of descriptive text. Abstract

This research was proved whether the use of Pictionary games in teaching vocabulary can improve students’ vocabulary mastery or not. This research used the quantitative method with the pre-experimental design, one group pre-test and post-test design. Pre-test (T1) is given to the students before treatment and post-test (T2) is given after treatment. This research was conducted SMP Negeri 8 Satap Tondano especially 7th grade students. There were three classes of the first level students, and the researcher will take one class only and it will be chosen as the subject of study with the total number of participants 23 students. Based on the findings, it could be concluded that the use of Pictionary as the learning method to improve students’ vocabulary mastery is an effective way to solve students’ lack in vocabulary mastery, especially the understanding of the meaning of each English word. The result showed the score in the post-test is significantly higher than pre-test. Most of the students found the effectiveness of this method in their English learning activity such as reading, speaking, and listening. The following suggestions are regarded as important to be considered by English teachers concerning the way of teaching vocabulary: 1) English teachers at junior high school are suggested to apply Pictionary games to help the students in learning vocabulary. 2) The teachers must control the students in groups to make them active and initiative. 3) Teachers must be creative to find out teaching technique that could improve students’ mastery in Vocabulary.

Abstract

This research is based on the students’ motivation in studying English. It intends to prove that students can improve their motivation and it is seen in their achievement in their study. The purpose of this research is to prove that this method is effective in order to improve students’ motivation to learn English. This research is conducted at SMP Negeri 11 Bitung. The subject of this research is a seventh-grade student of SMP Negeri 11 Bitung consisted of 24 students. The design of this research is a pre-experimental design with one group pre-test and post-test design. The data are collected through multiple choice as an instrument and with questionnaires and interviews to support the data. In analyzing the data writers use percentage formula. The result of this research shows that the score of the post-test is higher (72.09%) than the score of the pre-test (44.16%). Based on the fact of the result of this research, it can be concluded that the Audio-lingual method is effective to be applied in class to improve students’ motivation in studying English.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of using song media on increasing students' vocabulary in the English subject for Class VII students at SMP Negeri 8 Satu Atap Tondano. This research uses a pre-experimental design with a one group pretest-posttest design. This research was carried out at SMP Negeri 8 Satu Atap Tondano. The research sample was class VII, totaling 5 students. The pretest and posttest were given as research instruments, with a total of 18 questions. The research results show that the use of song media can increase students' vocabulary. This statement is proven by the students' posttest average score (74.38) with a standard deviation of 13.37 which is greater than the pretest average score (41.06) with a standard deviation of 6.35. Apart from that, the results of the hypothesis test show that the T-test value (4.039) is greater than the T-table (2.131). Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of song media is effective in increasing the English vocabulary of class VII students at SMP Negeri 8 Satu Atap Tondano.
