Abstract

This quasi-experimental research aims to determine the effect of Think Pair Check (TPC) learning models on understanding of mathematical concepts in terms of cognitive style. A purposive sampling technique was used to select a sample of 54 students from a junior high school in Patamuan sub-district, Indonesia. The data were obtained from mathematical concept understanding tests and Group Embedded Figure Test (GEFT) to determine students' cognitive styles. Data were analyzed using t-test. The findings indicated that students who learned using TPC method had a better understanding of concepts than those learning using the conventional model. Furthermore, the TPC learning model positively influenced the understanding of mathematical concepts of students with the Field Independent cognitive style but had no influence on students with the Field Dependent cognitive style. Therefore, the TPC learning model can be used to improve the understanding of mathematical concepts, especially for students with the Field Independent cognitive style.

Abstract

To help the teachers of SMAN 2 Painan improve their ability to implement contemporary learning models in CAR activities, this community service activity is carried out in the form of training. The materials that will be given during the training are focused on the following matters; 1) various contemporary learning models and how to implement them, 2) general description of CAR (definition, goals, benefits), preparation of proposals, and reporting, 3) various approaches / models / methods / strategies in learning that might be adopted. This activity aims to help the teachers of SMAN 2 Painan to improve their knowledge and skills in applying constructivism-based learning models in classroom action research. Specifically, after this activity the teachers of the Painan 2 High School have the ability to; 1) implementing learning models based on constructivism, 2) reflecting on their learning practices, 3) selecting and applying the learning methods / models / strategies they choose as remedial actions, 4) determining and developing suitable PTK instruments, 5 ) analyzing quantitative and qualitative data, 6) preparing CAR proposals, 7) preparing final reports, and 8) writing scientific articles based on CAR. This activity has a direct benefit for the teachers of SMAN 2 Painan in their efforts to improve their learning practices, and this is determined to have a positive effect on student optimization in learning.

Abstract

Mathematical problem solving ability is expected to develop well in each student. However, the reality is that students' mathematical problem solving abilities are still not optimal and have not been facilitated to develop these abilities properly. Based on this, it is necessary to develop learning tools based on problem based learning to improve students' problem solving abilities. The research was conducted with the aim of knowing the characteristics of problem based learning-based learning devices that are valid, practical and effective to improve the mathematical problem solving abilities of students in class VII SMP. This type of research is development research using the Plomp model, which consists of three stages, namely the preliminary stage, the prototype-making stage and the assessment stage. The tools made are problem based learning-based lesson plans and worksheets for class VII SMP. The instruments used are validation sheets, observation sheets, questionnaires, interviews and tests. The results showed that the learning tools in the form of lesson plans and LKPD based on problem based learningfor class VII SMP were valid and practical. The validity of the RPP reached 79.5 % and LKPD 82,5%. While the practicality of the lesson plans is 81.35% and LKPD 83.5%. Based on this, it can be concluded that problem based learning-based learning tools for class VII SMP with material Sets in semester 1 are valid, practical and effective and can be used as input materials in the mathematics learning process.

Abstract

This article aims to conceptually discuss the use of Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning models in student activities and learning outcomes in elementary schools, showing that with some efforts that have been made to improve learning activities and learning outcomes of grade VI students, but efforts have not been able to. running optimally, especially student activities that are decreasing, it is necessary to make efforts to improve the learning process, one of which is the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model. Based on observations, it shows that the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model has a good impact in terms of activities and learning outcomes, conceptually that the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model can be used as a model that is in line with improving the learning process which has a good impact on learning outcomes of students.

Abstract

Learning tools are important things used in the learning process. The use of this learning device has a major effect on the ability of students, one of which is the ability of mathematical reasoning. Learning tools in the form of RPP and LKPD can form effective learning and make it easier for teachers and students in learning. Based on this, it is necessary to develop learning tools that are expected to help students develop mathematical abilities, especially mathematical reasoning abilities. One thing that can help students and teachers is to develop discovery learning-based learning tools to improve students' mathematical reasoning abilities. The purpose of writing this article is to develop a valid, practical, and effective learning tool for the mathematical reasoning abilities of students in class VIII in junior high school by using the discovery learning model. This type of research is development research using the Plomp model. The Plomp model consists of an initial investigation stage, a prototype development stage, and an assessment stage. The research subjects were students of class VIII. The results showed that: (1) The learning tools in the form of RPP and LKPD based on discovery learning were valid in terms of content and constructs. (2) Practical because it is easy to use and understand, the allocated time is very efficient, interesting and contributes to learning. (3) From the results of the mathematical reasoning test, it shows that the discovery learning-based learning device has been effective in improving mathematical reasoning seen from the results of the final test carried out on students.

Abstract

Pemahaman konsep matematika merupakan salah satu kemampuan dasar yang harus dikuasai oleh siswa sebagai modal awal untuk menguasai kemampuan matematis yang lebih kompleks. Untuk mengoptimalkan pemahaman konsep matematis siswa, proses pembelajaran matematika yang memfasilitasi siswa untuk menemukan konsep dan mengkonstruksi sendiri pemahamannya tentang konsep tersebut merupakan salah satu solusi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kebutuhan siswa terhadap pengembangan bahan ajar berupa lembar kerja yang dapat memfasilitasi siswa menemukan dan mengkonstruksi konsep matematika. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara, lembar observasi, angket dan analisis dokumen. Hasil pengumpulan data menunjukkan bahwa (1) pemahaman konsep siswa tergolong rendah, (2) proses pembelajaran belum memfasilitasi siswa menemukan dan mengkonstruksi konsep, dan (3) bahan ajar yang digunakan hanya berupa ringkasan materi dan sekumpulan soal. Berdasarkan hasil analisis kebutuhan, peneliti merekomendasikan pengembangan bahan ajar berbasis penemuan terbimbing dalam bentuk lembar kerja siswa untuk mempermudah guru dalam membimbing siswa dalam melakukan kegiatan penemuan. The mathematical concepts understanding was one of the basic abilities that must be mastered by students as initial capital to master more complex mathematical abilities or skills. To optimize students' mathematical concepts understanding, the process of learning mathematics that facilitates students to find concepts and construct their own understanding of these concepts was a solution. This study aims to analyze student needs for developing teaching materials in students’ worksheets form that can facilitate students to discover and construct mathematical concepts. The data collected through interviews, observation sheets, questionnaires and document analysis. The results of data collection show that (1) students' mathematical concepts understanding was low, (2) the learning process has not facilitated students to find and construct their concepts, and (3) teaching materials used were just as summary of material and some sets of questions. Based on the results of the needs analysis, the researcher recommends the development of teaching materials based on guided discovery like students’ worksheets to facilitate the teacher in guiding students in conducting the discovery activities.

Abstract

Learning equipment is important things that determine the quality of the learning process and output. We need a study about validity, practicality, and effectiveness of the learning equipment to ensure teaching and learning quality. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the validity of the learning equipment based on guided discovery, especially the students’ worksheets. This research was a descriptive qualitative research that provides the result of students’ worksheets and experts' recommendations. The experts who validated these student’s worksheets were three experts on mathematics education. The instruments used in this study was the validation sheets for LKPD. The result of validation sheets analysis for LKPD showed that in general, the students’ worksheets were valid. The validity of the didactical aspect and contents aspect sequently were 0,667 dan 0,704.

Abstract

The human life aspect’s is concerned with measure activities that geometry context, such as study of plane, space, size and position. Students’ faced the difficulty in understanding concept and interpreting of direction of a transformed geometry object. To solved this difficulty students’ need mathematics learning media which able to clarify transformation context. The aim of this research to know the characteristics and description of mathematics learning media of based computer on geometry transformation context which is should be preliminary research phase. This research was using Plomp model. This model consist to preliminary research phase. This research found that mathematics learning media of based computer on the geometry transformation context was preliminary research phase.

Abstract

Pengembangan literasi matematis siswa harus menjadi prioritas karena peranan esensial yang dimiliki matematika dalam penyelesaian masalah sehari-hari. Namun, kajian menunjukan bahwa hasil capaian literasi matematis siswa di Indonesia masih rendah. Eksplorasi lebih dalam terkait dengan akar permasalahan dan strategi perbaikan dibutuhkan untuk mengakselerasi pencapaian literasi matematis. Menjawab tantangan tersebut, penelitian ini ditujukan untuk mengeksplorasi literasi matematis mahasiswa dalam pembelajaran kalkulus integral sehingga dapat menemukan gap pencapaian dalam topik tersebut. Tiga puluh tiga mahasiswa Jurusan Pendidikan Matematika Universitas Islam Negeri Sjech M. Djamil Djambek dijadikan subjek dalam penelitian ini. Pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif dipergunakan untuk menganalisis data dan informasi yang diperoleh melalui tes dan wawancara. Wawancara dilakukan pada tiga orang mahasiswa yang mewakili kategori tinggi, sedang dan rendah. Studi menunjukan rata-rata skor yang diperoleh siswa yakni 48,1 yang mengindikasikan literasi matematis dalam kategori rendah. Mahasiswa literasi matematis tinggi mampu memenuhi tiga indikator, kelompok sedang menguasai dua indikator sedangkan grup rendah tidak mampu memenuhi satu pun indikator. Dalam pengoptimalan hasil pembelajaran, hasil kajian ini dapat dipergunakan sebagai dasar dalam penentuan strategi pembelajaran oleh tenaga pendidik atau mahasiswa.

Abstract

Abstrak. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian pendahuluan pada kelas VIII SMP di lapangan, masih ditemukan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa dalam masalah nyata yang belum optimal dan aktivitas siswa tidak mendukung proses belajar mereka. Salah satu faktornya adalah tidak cocoknya perangkat pembelajaran yang dapat memudahkan pembelajar untuk memperbaiki pemecahan kemampuan matematika dan kemampuan belajar siswa. Dari situ, untuk mendasari melakukan pengembangan perangkat pembelajaran matematika, ada rencana rencana pembelajaran (RPP) dan lembar kerja siswa (LKPD) berbasis Problem Based Learning (PBL), yang dapat memberikan pengalaman belajar untuk belajar pemecahan masalah dan dapat memberikan efek potensial yang baik pada aktivitas siswa selama proses belajar. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, kuesioner, wawancara, dan uji kemampuan pemecahan masalah. Subyek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIII SMP N 3 Sawahlunto. Pengembangan penelitian ini yang digunakan adalah mode Plomp yang terdiri dari tahap awal penelitian, tahap prototipe, dan tahap penilaian. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data, terlihat bahwa alat pembelajaran berdasarkan PBL telah memenuhi kriteria yang valid dalam hal isi dan konstruksi. Peralatan pelajaran telah dianggap praktis dalam hal pelaksanaan dan efisiensi penggunaan waktu oleh guru dan siswa. Alat pelajaran juga efektif dalam hal proses penguasaan presentasi siswa belajar setelah menggunakan pembelajaran berbasis perangkat berbasis pembelajaran lebih besar dari atau sama dengan 75% sedangkan dalam hal hasil rata-rata siswa telah aktif dalam belajar.Kata kunci: Perangkat Pelajaran Matematika, Pemecahan Masalah, PBL. Abstract. Based on the results of preliminary studies at grade VIII SMP in the field, it is still  found a mathematical problem solving ability of students in real problem who have not optimally and students activities do not support their learning process. One of the  factor is unsuitable of learning tools that can be facilitate learners to improve solving of mathematical problems ability and student’s activities to learn. From that case, to be underlying to do development learning tools of mathematics, there are plan lesson plan (RPP) and student’s worksheet (LKPD) on Problem Based Learning (PBL), which can provide a learning experience to learn problem solving and can provide a good potential effects on student’s activities during the learning proccess. Data were collected through observation, questionnaires, interviews, and test problem solving abilities. The subjects of this research are students grade VIII SMP N 3 Sawahlunto. This research development is used Plomp mode consists of phase preliminary research, prototype phase, and assessment phase. Based on the data analysis result, it was showed that the learning equipment based on  PBL has fulfilled valid criteria in term of content and construct. The lesson equipment has been considered as practical in terms of implementation and the efficiency of time use by teachers and students. The lesson equipment has also been effective in terms of process  the presentation mastery learning students after using the device based learning problem-based learning is greater than or equal to 75% while in terms of results the average student has been active in the learning. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the mathematics lesson equipment based on PBL which was conducted to student's of class VIII was valid, practical, and effective.Keyword.
