Abstract

Memes have become an important medium for expressing multiple intentions on the internet. Social media has advanced increasingly, making memes a contestation zone, an active hook for delivering information, and an expression of counterradicalism. Memes are a very effective way to take a jab at radicalism in a laid-back or even humorous manner so the public can refreshingly capture the messages. As a part of the digital way, the counterradical group also benefits from the same medium and feature. This research aims to investigate the data on the field on how the memes spreading on social media fight against radicalism in their ways. Therefore, the antiradicalism movement through memes is conducted to look for the patterns, forms, and meanings, especially on X and Instagram accounts of NU Garis Lucu (NUGL) and Muhammadiyah Garis Lucu (MuGL). Using a qualitative approach with the content analysis method, the memes posted in the two accounts were collected between August and December 2022. We found that NUGL and MuGL are actively plotting the antiradicalism movement by criticizing radicalism and fighting against religious indoctrination. Apart from that, for those two accounts, memes function as a medium to raise awareness on multiculturalism and nurture nationalism.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze socio-economic inequality in Indonesia using a meta-analysis approach. Socio-economic inequality encompasses various dimensions, such as disparities in access to education, healthcare services, economic opportunities, and digital technology. Contributing factors include uneven development policies, the effects of globalization, geographical conditions, and gender inequality. This study integrates findings from various relevant studies meeting inclusion criteria, including articles published between 2018 and 2023. Meta-analysis facilitates the identification of patterns in causes, impacts, and effective solutions for reducing socio-economic inequality. The findings indicate that the impacts of socio-economic inequality are not only economic, such as reduced purchasing power, but also social, such as increased stratification and limited social mobility. Proposed solutions include wealth redistribution through progressive tax policies, increased investment in education and digital infrastructure, and community-based empowerment in underdeveloped regions. This study concludes that reducing socio-economic inequality in Indonesia requires more inclusive policy approaches, consistent implementation, sustainable evaluation, and cross-sectoral coordination.

Abstract

The employment problems experienced by Generation Z (born in 1997-2012) as the youngest workforce are currently attracting the attention of many parties. Various studies and the existing literature show that employment problems are structural and cultural. However, from various studies and literature, there is still not much comprehensive discussion of the various employment problems experienced by this generation. Therefore, this study aims to describe the various employment problems experienced by Gen Z. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach through library research with Miles and Huberman’s interactive model of data analysis techniques. The results of this study show that there are four main categories that color the dynamics of Gen Z employment: the decline in employment in the formal sector, the generation gap and differences in work preferences, the tendency to be voluntarily unemployed, and the dynamics of the gig economy that color the Gen Z job market. The findings show that Generation Z's employment problems are related to limited employment opportunities and changes in the orientation, values, and expectations of the younger generation towards the world of work, which are interrelated. This research is expected to contribute academically and practically to current employment issues, especially as a study material for developing employment policies that are pro-Gen Z and benefit many parties.

Abstract

Smart city is the is the integration of technology infrastructure, development strategies for social/human capital, and a network of stakeholders to ensure the city’s interest. It is implemented to help government overcome urbanisation problems. However, the massive use of ICT in smart city raises questions on production of space in urban areas. Thus, this research aims to examine how production of space occurs in smart cities in Indonesia, namely in Badung (Bali), Sleman, and Bantul Regencies (Yogyakarta). Using qualitative multiple-case studies, this research characterised smart cities studied as proposed by Giffinger and Gudrun and analyzes them in the Lefebvrian’s concept of production of space. Data was collected in two stages: observation of smart city services on the official website and semi-structured interviews with smart city users in the three cities studied. The results show that the three official websites provide smart city services, although further development is required. Although, informants in this study knew about the program, their use of the services is limited due to technical obstacles, lack of interest, and lack of socialization of the services. As conclusion, the implementation of smart cities in three cities is still at the normative and top-down policy level. Hence, citizen might not understand or need these services. Regarding the production of space in smart cities, this research concludes that it occurs in spatial space and representational space. Therefore, the right to the city in the production of space to live and solve the city's social and economic problems is crucial. Keywords: Production of Space, City, Smart city, Yogyakarta, Bali AbstrakSmart city adalah tata kelola kota yang mengintegrasikan infrastruktur teknologi, strategi pengembangan modal sosial/manusia, dan jaringan pemangku kepentingan untuk menjamin kepentingan kota.
