Abstract

This study aims to describe the type of coherence in the column of crime story of Tribun Jambi March edition. This research uses qualitative descriptive method. Research Data is obtained by using documentation techniques. The data on this research is a sentence which contains of types of coherence, namely; cause and effect, addition, process, spatial, and indefinites. The source of the data is in the form of news text in the column of crime story of Tribun Jambi newspaper. Based on the results of the data anaylsis, it is found that there are 543 types of coherence in the crime story column of Tribun Jambi March edition 2019. There are 20 quotations of cause and effect which are characterized by three conjunctions, such as maka, jadi, and, sebaliknya. There are 293 types of addition coherence which are characterized with six conjunctions i.e. dan, selain itu, baik, maupun, serta, and di samping itu. There are 128 types of process coherence which are characterized with two conjunctions namely dengan and tanpa. There are 83 types of spatial coherence which are characterized by six conjunctions i.e., lalu, kemudian, setelah itu, pada saat itu, sebelumnya, and sementara itu. There are 19 quotations of indefinites coherence which are marked with four conjunctions i.e. bukan hanya, bahkan, selanjutnya, and lalu. Thus, it is found that the addition coherence as the dominant type which occurs in the column of crime story in Tribun Jambi newspaper March edition 2019. While the least coherence found in the data is indefinites coherence.

Abstract

The purpose of this research to describe the types of ilocutionary act that the Indonesian language teacher use in giving fable story lesson towards students class VII SMP Negeri 11 Kota Jambi Academic Year 2017/2018. This research is descriptive qualitative. The technique of collecting data is observation, recording, and note-taking. The data then is analyzed by using pragmatic analysis. Based on the result of the analysis, it can be found that there 4 types of ilocutionary act that is used by the Indonesian language teacher, they are (1) directive, (2) declarative, (3) insertive, (4) expressive. The functions of teacher’s ilocutionary act is really important to the students in learning process. In addition, it is recommended to the teacher to improve their expressive utterance in order to increase studeents willinngness in learning and to reduce the use of directive utterance so that the students will not bored in studying the lesson.Key Word: ilocutionary, pragmatic

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to describe the use of coordinating conjunction on editorial news of Tribun Jambi January 2019.  This research uses qualitative descriptive method. The data is in the form of sentence which contains coordinating conjunction. The source of the data is the news text on editorial news column of Tribun Jambi newspaper January 2019. The result of the research shows that there are 5 types of conjunctions used. First, there are expressions of coordinating conjunction of addition. Second, there are 3 expressions of coordinating conjunction of sequence. Third, there are 12 expressions of coordinating conjunction of contrast. Forth, there are 11 expressions of coordinating conjunction of choice. Fifth, there are 2 expressions of coordinating conjunction of explanation. Meanwhile there are two types of conjunction which are not found in the newspaper column; affirmation and compound conjunction.

Abstract

The purpose of the research is to describe the assonance figurative language in Catatan Harian Catatan Najwa by Najwa Shihab. The data of this research is primary data which consists of quotations of assonance figurative language and the metaphor of that assonance. The source of this data is daily notes of Catatan Najwa by Najwa Shihab. This research is qualitative with descriptive method. Through collecting data, choosing data, and analyzing data, the research can understand the assonance figurative language and the metaphor from the daily notes of Catatan Najwa by Najwa Shihab. Moreover, the researcher interpreted it logically and drawed the conclusion for each discussion.The result shows that there are three things that are related to this research, they are two kinds of assonance figurative language; assonance figurative language of vowel repetition on one speech and one line. For example: Indonesia adalah kata kerja, kita semua yang harus menuntaskannya. Next is assonance figurative language with the repetition of vowel pattern on two lines, such as: Cukup lama dia geming membatuMenyindir kekuasaan yang penuh ragu. Moreover, there are some words that comprise metaphor, such as: Uluran tangan which means giving help, geming membatu which means being silent without saying any words, ibu pertiwi which means Indonesia land, which is suitable with this theory (Suwandi, 2011: 117). Thus, it can be concluded that there are two kinds of assonance figurative language and words that have metaphor meaning in Catatan Najwa daily notes.

Abstract

This research aims to: (1) Describe the ability to write news text students are taught using STAD type cooperative learning model and students are taught using direct learning model; (2) Describe the ability to write high-priority student-language text texts that are taught using STAD-type cooperative models and are taught using direct learning models; (3) Describe the ability to write low-priority student-language text texts that are taught using STAD-type cooperative models and are taught using direct learning models, and (4) Describe the interaction of cooperative learning model type STAD and initial ability to the ability to write news text of students of class VIII SMP Negeri 24 Jambi. The type of this research is quantitative with 2x2 factorial experimental designs. The population of the research is the students of class VIII SMP Negeri 24 consisting of 6 classes. The sample of this research is class VIIIA for experiment class with 40 students and class VIIIB for control class with 38 students. Sample determination is determined by purposive sampling technique. The data of students' news text writing capability was obtained using performance test and analyzed using two ways Anova test. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that STAD type cooperative learning model affects the ability to write student news text. The effect can be explained as follows. First, the ability to write news texts of students taught using STAD type cooperative learning model is better than students taught using direct learning model. Second, the ability to write high-priority students' text news taught using STAD type cooperative models is better than students taught using direct learning models. Third, the ability to write low-priority students' text taught using STAD type cooperative models is better than students being taught using direct learning models. Fourth, there is no interaction between STAD type cooperative learning model and initial ability to write news text skills of students of class VIII SMP Negeri 24 Jambi.Keywords: Writing News Texts, Cooperative Learning, Direct Learning
