Abstract

This research identified types and the dominant communication styles used by a teacher in EFL classroom interaction based on theory of Mikoluk (2013) and Lanz (2015). Descriptive qualitative research method was applied to find out the phenomena of communication styles used by the teacher in EFL classroom interaction. The subject of this research is single participant, a teacher of SMA Negeri 3 Palopo. The participant was chosen by using purposive sampling technique. The researcher observed and interviewed the teacher to reveal the phenomena under investigation. Observation was conducted in six meetings from different context such as different class, time and learning topic. The researcher conducted observation by using audio recorder and field notes. Audio recorder was used to record teacher’s utterance in the teaching and learning process. Meanwhile field notes used by the researcher to obtain more accurate data. Interview was used to know the teacher’s dominant communication styles. The result of this research showed that there were three types of communication styles that used by the teacher in EFL classroom interaction namely aggressive style, assertive style, and passive style and the dominant one was aggressive style.

Abstract

Penguasaan bahasa inggris bagi siswa saat ini telah menjadi suatu hal yang sangat diharapkan. Namun, berdasarkan perkembangan yang ada, para siswa kerap mendapatkan kesulitan dalam proses pembelajarannya. Salah satu metode yang dapat mengatasi hal ini adalah Metode Wordwall. Metode ini dapat digunakan meningkatkan penguasaan kosa kata bahasa inggris. Program pelatihan ini dilakukan di Desa Cenning, Kecamatan Malangke Barat, Kabupaten Luwu Utara. Diikuti oleh para siswa SMP dan SMA di lingkungan desa tersebut. Pelatihan ini mendapatkan respon yang baik dan dengan hasil yang positif pula. Namun demikian, harus tetpa dilakukan pengulangan agar metode ini tetap berjalan dan mendapatkan hasil yang baik di masa depan.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the preservation and implementation of religious values and local wisdom, it is a case study with a qualitative approach, where the data collected from observation and interviews. The results showed that the Al-Islam kemuhammadiyahan and local wisdom value had been described in the lesson plan and the learning implementation. The value of the Dewata Seuwae is a form of instilling faith in children by introducing Allah creation, the holy book, and the Prophet. The values of alempureng and amaccangang are instilled so that they are always honest. Agettengeng means adherence to principles and responsibility to the ummah, nation, and state. The value of aperrukeng is a child's primary asset for cooperation and a sense of caring for the people around them. This research proves that religion and culture can coexist harmoniously, and their values can be used in thematic Learning in early childhood

Abstract

This article aimed to describe, analyze, and explain the forms of speech acts of students after joining organizational education and regeneration program at Universitas Muhammadiyah Palopo. This research is a descriptive qualitative study that attempted to explain the speech acts that occur in the conversation. The subjects of this study were active students who had participated in the program. Data were taken from the results of observations, interviews, recording, and additional information in the field. The results of the research showed that the forms of the student speech act in the campus environment were (a) declarative, (b) imperative, and (c) interrogative.

Abstract

AbstractShellfish is a marine potential that is closely related to the life of coastal communities. One type of shell that is easy to find and has the potential to be developed is the Bonro-Bonro (Blood Shell) type. This type of shellfish is one of the coastal potentials of Salu Paremang Selatan Village, Kamanre District, Luwu Regency, South Sulawesi. This activity is a community service activity aimed at opening people's understanding of the use of clamshells, which so far have only been a marine waste. This activity begins with observation and problem identification. This service activity was filled with socialization with village officials, PKK women, BUMDES managers, and also youth organizations in the Village of Salu Paremang Selatan. This activity is also filled with training on the use of shells starting with the cleaning process and the creation by utilizing various used plastic containers into flower pots and wall hangings. This activity took place with high enthusiasm from the participants.  AbstrakKerang merupakan potensi laut yang berkaitan erat dengan kehidupan masyarakat pesisir. Salah satu jenis kerang yang mudah ditemui dan memiliki potensi untuk dikembangkan adalah jenis Kerang Bonro-Bonro (Kerang Darah). Jenis kerang ini merupakan salah stau potensi pesisir yang dimiliki oleh Desa Salu Paremang selatan, Kecamatan Kamanre, Kabupaten Luwu, Sulawesi Selatan. Kegiatan ini merupakan kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat yang ditujukan untuk membuka pemahaman masyarakat mengenai pemanfaatan cangkang kerang yang selama ini hanya menjadi limbah laut. Kegiatan ini diawali dengan observasi dan identifikasi masalah. kegiatan pengabdian ini diisi dengan sosialisasi dengan aparat desa, Ibu-Ibu PKK, Pengelola BUMDES, dan juga para pemuda karang taruna Desa Salu Paremang Selatan. Kegiatan ini juga diisi dengan pelatihan pemanfaatan cangkang kerang yang dimulai dengan proses pembersihan dan kreasinya dengan memanfaatkan berbagai wadah plastik bekas menjadi pot bunga dan hiasan dinding. Kegiatan ini berlangsung dengan antusiasme peserta yang tinggi.

Abstract

The language class is closely related to the assumption that students will learn and generate the target language. Students are supposed to be able to relate, at least, with the language they have studied. The teacher hopes to not only teach but also use the target language in their teaching-learning process and show the students how to use it. This research explores the teacher's target language in the classroom discourse from the teacher’s point of view—a Qualitative approach employed in this research. The teacher believed that the use of the target language has to be in a maximum way. However, drawn away by the situation of students’ target language knowledge, the use of target language becomes infrequently used. She only used target language for simple words or sentences, which is she knew her students able to comprehend. She needed to use the target language and the students’ first language and mother tongue to help the students more comfortable comprehending the lesson.

Abstract

The learning garden is implemented as an additional learning facility for school children in the Tarobok village. This program aims to mobilize children to carry out positive activities and repeat the lessons they previously received at school. activities carried out include general learning such as reading, counting and memorizing. Learning English and religious education is also carried out in the learning park. The techniques used are quizzes, presentations, focus group discussions, and singing. The results of this activity really helped the children to increase their enthusiasm for learning, especially in the aspects of literacy and numeracy. Abstrak: Taman belajar dilaksanakan sebagai sarana pembelajaran tambahan bagi anak-anak sekolah di desa tarobok. Program ini bertujuan untuk memobilisasi anak-anak agar melakukan aktivitas positif dan mengulangi pembelajaran yang sebelumnya mereka dapatkan di sekolah. aktivitas yang dilakukan antara lain pembelajaran umum seperti membaca, menghitung dan menghapal. Pembelajaran lain seperti Bahasa inggris dan Pendidikan agama juga di lakukan di taman belajar. Teknik yang dilakukan yakni kuis, presentasi, focus group discussion, dan bernyanyi. Hasil kegiatan ini sangat membantu anak-anak meningkatkan semangat belajar khususnya dalam aspek literasi dan numerasi.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is (1) to find out whether the use of riddles results in an effective game in improving students' vocabulary. (2) What is the significance of students' responses when learning vocabulary using riddle games? This study used a quasi-experimental design. The number of students in the school was 38 students. This research technique used purposive sampling. The researcher's sample amounted to 20 students from class IX. The class was then divided into two levels experiment and control. Data analysis was conducted using student vocabulary tests to obtain students' vocabulary performance, which was then analyzed using inferential statistics using SPSS version 22. The post-test score at the end of the experiment was significantly higher than the pre-test score which was 70.5059.50. The difference between the two scores was statistically significant. Based on the test results at a significant level of 0.05, the probability of the results is greater than the significant threshold (0.020.05). H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected. It can be stated that the use of riddles is an effective game to improve students' vocabulary, and students also give positive feedback when learning vocabulary using riddles.

Abstract

This study aims to determine religious moderation education and the existence of cultural hybridization among university students. The subjects of this study were 50 students who were taking ma'had al-jami'a, in semester 2. The data were obtained from the Al-Islam Kemuhammadiyahan course with interviews. This study uses a qualitative approach and utilizes the nVivo 12 plus for data analysis. The results showed that religious moderation education was carried out with the content of national commitment, anti-violence, accommodative to local culture, standard tolerance in the curriculum, and hidden curricula in various learning activities. Moderation and hybridization are traits that will give birth to a moderate character in responding to differences. A moderate approach also produces hybridization through meetings and cultural crosses among participants with diverse backgrounds. The value of moderation in the Al-Islam Kemuhammadiyahan curriculum has designed a hybrid of cultures from diverse ethnicities, religions, and environments. The interdisciplinary implications of the study of religion, education, and sociology are confirmed in this article.

Abstract

Pemerintah Kabupaten Enrekang dalam upaya melestarikan kearifan lokal “Kawasan Desa tanpa Asap Rokok”, kemudian menjadikan Desa Bone-Bone sebagai Program Desa Wisata Lifestyle Tourism Without Tobacco. Untuk menyukseskan program tersebut, tentunya sangat ditentukan oleh sumberdaya yang massif salah-satunya upaya pro-aktif dari Generasi Muda Desa. Berdasarkan hal tersebut maka Tim Pengabdi bermitra dengan Karang Taruna Desa Bone-bone menjalankan kegiatan “Pembinaan Karang Taruna dalam menyukseskan Lifestyle Tourism Without Tobacco di Kabupaten Enrekang melalui English for tourism dan Sport Tourism. Metode yang digunakan dalam pengabdian ini yaitu menggabungkan konsep Capasity Building (CB), eko-efesiensi (eco-development), dan Center for Environment and Society. Hasil pengabdian; (1) 50% Pengurus (Karang Taruna) Mitra memiliki kemampuan dasar English for tourism. (2) 30% Pengurus (Karang Taruna) Mitra memiliki kemampuan dasar pengelolaan Sport Tourism. (3) Kedua indikator tersebut diprediksi dapat mensukseskan Program Desa Wisata Lifestyle Tourism Without Tobacco Desa Bone-Bone, berupa peningkatan jumlah kunjungan atau wisatawan dengan target capaian 50% kenaikan dari tahun sebelumnya. (4) Suksesnya Program Desa Wisata “Lifestyle Tourism Without Tobacco” dapat menjadi kampanye penurunan prevalensi konsumsi tembakau, sehingga menurunkan angka kemiskinan dan stunting serta konsekuensi ekonomi dari penyakit dan cedera akibat merokok
